When we moved to the Woodbury area a couple of years ago, we had to start with a whole new doctor’s office. After doctor shopping for about six months, we found that we really liked the HealthEast Woodbury clinic. The doctors and other practitioners are great, for the most part, the clinic is kept very clean and as a patient, you can almost always get same day appointments provided you call in when the appointment line opens at 7:00 am. The only problem I’ve had so far is the fact that if you or your children are having a checkup/physical, many times, the receptionists won’t take a co-pay just in case your particular insurance plan doesn’t require one for preventative care. Unfortunately for my family, our insurance makes us pay a co-pay for every appointment, no matter what our reason is for coming in. These unpaid co-pays can add up quickly with two young children and it is rare if I get an actual bill for them and they are soon forgotten. Fast forward to nearly a year later and I get a bill for 3 co-pays that are about to be put into collections. I don’t mind having to pay the $ 60 but I would have liked to have been told before it was at risk of going onto my credit report. The last few checkups we’ve had have, we have paid a co-pay before seeing a doctor, as we should have from the beginning. Perhaps, their SOP has changed recently or they finally understand that my insurance requires a co-pay for everything. Just make sure that all of your billing stuff is taken care of as we weren’t told about any outstanding balance for almost a year, not even when we came in for appointments or called to schedule one. Overall, the HealthEast Woodbury clinic is a convenient, well run clinic. Over the past two years, we’ve developed a great relationship with our doctors… they even go out of their way to remember things about our family. It’s been a generally good experience. Everyone there is just so great. One more tip: come to your appointment maybe 5 – 10 minutes earlier than you typically would just in case there isn’t any parking in the clinic lot and you have to park at the hospital. There is a free valet at the hospital but you’ll still have to walk through the hospital to get to the clinic, also just because the valet is free, doesn’t mean you don’t have to tip. It is pretty embarrassing to have to dig through your car to tip the valet driver in quarters and dimes if you don’t carry much cash like me and you don’t want to be the yahoo who doesn’t tip. So if you don’t have money for a tip, park in the hospital lot.
