Went in here about a month ago, the décor was funny and the atmosphere cozy. Now when I say cozy I mean if you like the table next to you to be so close they could grab the ketchup off your table then this place is for you. Service was ok. We were seated right away, noticed a few tables that were still dirty(they weren’t busy at all) would have rather of not seen what other people had for dinner but aside from that the place seemed clean enough for a bar and grill. Waitress didn’t really expand to much on the menu and really didn’t seem very happy to be waiting on a table although it was pretty dead. I had the pulled pork sandwich with the waffle fries that came with seasoned sour cream. Sandwich was tasty, not the best pulled pork but certainly not the worst. The fries were disgusting, the seasoned sour cream tasted badly also. The side of slaw that was included in the meal, I didn’t try because the cabbage looked old and yellowed and the mayonnaise was not the right color either, looked like it had been made several days before, and being a food service worker, I wasn’t touching it, for fear of sitting on the toilet all night and the next day. Basically the stars are for the sandwich.

Great place for home cooked meals. I suggest the sloppy dago or the open faced prime rib sandwich! Also, a great spot for breakfast. The décor is very simple and outdated, but don’t let that fool you. Great prices and stiff drinks if your thirsty!

Friday Fish Fry! I have my own top 10 list of the best places to find a Friday Fish Fry and I try to read other bloggers and outlets posting their picks to challenge my own list. I read an article posted by Pioneer Press that listed the Fireside as a place to check out for a good fish fry. Since it’s a well know publication, they should know what they’re talking about. Right? Wrong! I am going to save you a trip and say; stop by your local grocery store, purchase a box of Captain Gorton’s Pub Style Fillets and when you get home, just throw it away. Or you can eat it if you’re okay with poor quality fish… Well, that’s exactly what you’re getting from Fireside. I of course wouldn’t add this to my top 10 list, but if you’re wondering where you should be going for a good fish fry; check out 7th Street Social, Jersey’s Bar & Grill or Tamarack Tap Room. The fireside does have a pretty darn good Juicy Lucy though, so just stick to that, an ice cold beverage of your choice and enjoy.

Was looking for a new place for a Friday Lenten lunch. Wasn’t disappointed. Terrific, deep-fried fish comfort food. Well cooked cod, delicious, non-greasy batter. Baked potato, carrots & green beans, and the best dinner roll I’ve had in a while. And a great neighborhood vibe inside.

Fireside is one of my personal favorites on Robert Street. The atmosphere is always very welcoming and friendly. They have amazing burger baskets and they have specials every day. I would recommend this place.

The Fireside Lounge is like your favorite bars favorite bar. Very good food, good drinks and a nice atmosphere. You immediately feel welcome when you step inside. Mike the owner is a nice guy and seems to care about the customer’s experience. I would recommend this place to a friend. I wish there were more places like this.

I kept hearing good things about Fireside and finally decided to give it a try on a night where I wanted something very casual, down-to-earth, and(I was hoping) not very quiet. Check, check, and check. We got there during a bingo game and haplessly sat right next to a large table full of bingo players, so it was quite loud. It was okay for us, with small children, since any noise they made was drowned out so we wouldn’t bother other diners. Pros: A local non-chain, so feel-good points for supporting a local business. The seasoned sour cream served with the waffle fries was super yummy. After the waffle fries were gone, the regular fries got a turn at being dunked.(The fries themselves were average, good enough to enjoy but not particularly memorable in any way.) Cons: The prime rib melt. Wow. It was brought out to me as a hunk of *very* fatty meat between two thin, limp, soggy pieces of bread with a little plastic cup of au jus. That was it. The waitress took it back to add the cheese, and brought it back smeared with a less-than-generous amount of some sort of spread that tasted like blue cheese. Nary a thing was melted. Not quite what anyone would expect of a «melt» with«three different cheeses.» The meat was tough, flavorless, and like I said extremely fatty. I had to spit most of it out. I don’t think I have ever used this word to describe food I’ve gotten at a restaurant, but it was gross. Mehs: Burger was average. Sweet potato puffs were okay, basically tater tots made with sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes but didn’t seem to be seasoned at all. Even the kids were indifferent to the puffs. Service was decent but a bit sparse. I think we were forgotten about for the most part. I won’t be returning. There are plenty of other small restaurants to try to return to one so overwhelmingly underwhelming.

I’m so incredibly picky about my breakfast and if I had to change one thing i ate… It would be nothing. My O’brien potatoes were on point. Can you say yum?! Server was great. Attentive, smiley and friendly. Place is clean and cozy and I will be back!

Well I don’t know what some people are looking for at the Fireside, but I know from my experience that the staff is nice… more than welcoming. The décor/atmosphere is classic neighborhood hangout… and the food is home themed and good. My mother is a fish fry connoisseur, she knows what she likes and is not afraid to tell everybody if it is good… or bad. The Fireside has her seal of approval for Friday Night Fish Fry. Nice large cod loins fried to perfection. I have tried their burgers and their Turkey Night Special… Homemade goodness. If your looking for a nice quiet night in an upscale restaurant… skip the Fireside. If your looking for a nice night out with a friendly staff(bartenders are very nice) and a bunch of locals, with a few drinks… and a good meal. I definitely suggest you check out the Fireside Lounge.

This is a hole in the wall joint. Being a Westside native I will tell you that Robert st is full of nonsense eateries, but not this place! They have cheap and stuff drinks for you drinkers and a great menu. The food is very reasonably priced and delicious! Look for their homecooked specials for the day, very well done!

My friend and I went here to watch a gopher football game last weekend and we ordered a fish sandwich and a juicy Lucy which we both looked forward to our server was slow at greeting us or coming to the table after we got our drinks. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour for our food the server kept making excuses but when everyone else was eating I was annoyed We finally got our food and the fish reminded me of a fishwich from the school cafeteria anyway, the hamburger is normally filled with cheese there was literally no cheese inside the hamburger and the hamburger was so dry we could barely eat it, it was burnt as well. The server never came back to ask us how our food was after she dropped it off at the table so we continued to eat because I’m diabetic and I had to no other choice but to eat When she did finally come back she did ask us if we wanted to replace it with something else and at first we said no and then we asked her again if we could have something and she said no that my friend had eaten too much of his half and he hadn’t touched it from the first time she came over and asked us if we wanted something else. I went to the bathroom and the manager or the owner came over and talk to my friend and when he told him that we are disappointed in the food you made up a bunch of excuses and he had he said he actually had to cook that day because the cook was gone so you never took any money off our tab or anything and we paid our $ 40 bill and went home discussing why we were treated so poorly the next day my friend felt sick and so did I. We will never go there again. We are both professionals but were dressed very casually. In my last job as media photographer I helped out by doing reviews on restaurants in the Phoenix area. It was a great job but I always gave my honest opinion on food, so all in all that establishment didn’t have anything going for it and I have absolutely no reason to go back there the treatment was ridiculous.

We ended up at Fireside because Outback had too big of a wait and I am glad we did! I have driven past this place numerous times and had heard that it had pretty good food but the outside does throw you off a little. Don’t let it-Go on in! We were greeted very promptly and politely by, I believe, the owner. We had a short five minute wait. This place reminds me of a small town bar. Half of this place is bar; the kind of bar you would expect in a town with a population of 999. The other half is the restaurant which I felt was very cozy. I really felt at home here! The food was good, much better than I had expected. Ci had the All you can Eat fish and she let me taste it. Yum! Fried cod; not too greasy and not too much batter… Purrrfect! I had a chicken melt(chicken breast with Swiss, onions, and green peppers) which was super tasty and greasy, not in a bad way but in an «Ikes, this might clog my arteries up» way. It sure didn’t stop this fluffy girl from eating it all! The waffle fries with sour cream dip were excellent as well. Food was served hot, drinks were refilled promptly, and the server was super friendly and attentive as she could be considering, she almost had the whole restaurant to serve. The person who I believe was the owner, kept our drinks full and went around to each table, making sure everyone was happy. It truly felt like I had wandered into a place that was a labor of love for everyone. The server seemed happy to be working and all the people eating, seemed so happy and content to be there! it felt like one big happy family! I can not wait to go back and try the augratin potatoes which are homemade like Mom used to make. The lady at the next table had them and I wanted to poke my fork into one of the potatoes so bad but I restrained myself. :( Come give it a try sometime. They have great specials every night and I hear the Turkey Dinner on Thursday night is homemade goodness.

After receiving a free drink token, my fiancée and I decided to check this place out for lunch. We’ve been considering it for months, but the drink token was the perfect reminder to get is there. The waitress denied my fiancée alcohol because she doesn’t understand how to read a Wisconsin license… Okay, whatever. The food was mediocre and there isn’t anything on the menu that stands out, so we went with burgers. The place was empty with exception to a few people at the bar. The waitress was very rude and off-putting. We went to the liquor store afterwards where my fiancée’s license passed just like any other place. I don’t think I’ll be accepting any more drink tokens for this place, there are plenty of dive bars with better service and prices out there.

My wife and I go out for breakfast a lot. I love breakfast, and even though it’s not her favorite meal, she indulges me quite often. Previous posts have profiled some of my favorite places for breakfast like the Swede Hollow Café, Capital View Café, and the Saint Paul Bagelry. Another place we hit from time to time is The Fireside Lounge on Robert Street in West. St. Paul. On weekend mornings, we are often headed down Robert to do our grocery shopping, and the Fireside is a nice quick stop. Often you will find me there the morning after a especially long night, because the Fireside has one key offering other breakfast spots don’t: alcohol. If I’m in need of a Bloody Mary, I know I can go to the Fireside for a quick, cheap breakfast and a little hair of the dog. The menu is pretty basic, you’re not going to find over-produced, fancy-dancy breakfast options here. You’re going to get some buttery, stick– to– your– ribs options. Omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs, eggs Benedict; you know –the kind of stuff your gut craves after a long night of drinking. I have two mainstays at The Fireside Lounge. The Cajun Breakfast(hash browns, mushrooms, onions, peppers, cheese and Cajun sausage topped with two eggs and smothered in hollandaise), or the Italian Omelet(Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and pepper jack cheese). I usually ask for the omelet smothered in hollandaise as well, because as you know I’m a total fat kid. Sara almost always gets the Eggs Benedict with sausage instead of Canadian bacon. I guess you can tell we really like the hollandaise at The Fireside Lounge. he Fireside Lounge also offers lunch and dinner, with specials everyday. I’ve been in once or twice for lunch and the steak sandwich is pretty tasty. Overall, The Fireside Lounge is a blue-collar neighborhood bar and restaurant that offers good food at fair prices. You’re not going to find a chef adapting to the latest culinary trends, but you will find nice people, hearty food, and cheap drinks. What more do you need?

The Fireside Lounge is a great little lounge with good homestyle food at a really cheap price. I come here to grab a burger, some cold local beer on tap, and play some pulltabs. The bar prices are cheap. I could get a beer and a shot for under 10 plus tip. The barstaff are nice, they remember my face and my drinks. In my humble opinion this is the kind of bar to go to to get through the long winter. The regulars are super nice. People from all ends of the spectrum frequent here. Not to mention, the great pulltab boxes. Im up $ 500 right now.

These reviews are too negative. There is a good selection of taps at great prices(ie Brooklyn Brown Ale @ $ 3.50/pint). The clientel is a variety of old and young, Hispanic, white, black etc. and very friendly and down to earth. The staff is personable, funny, efficient and professional. The food is not fancy, but well prepared and fresh. It’s as good as other bar/diner food and very affordable. This is a good spot to grab a beer and take in games on the big-screens. If you’re ever stuck in West St Paul, the Fireside Lounge is a good bar to check out.

I was thinking how I need to review some not so great places I’ve been to and thought, «How am I going to come up with such a bad place?’ Well, light bulb, this is it. My in-laws decided on this place, unfortunately, a while back now so of course, like anything I gave it a try. Usually I try to only review places if I’ve been to them more than once but this place is the exception. The food was terrible, your typical american bland meal, I think they had a special which included corn, mashed potatoes and roast beef. No flavor at all and terrible quality, I don’t even want to think about where that stuff came from. Luckily I didn’t eat much of it. Ok so the food was terrible but the service may have been worse. Our waitress could have cared less about her job and it really showed. She pretty much just dumped our plates off without saying a word and then left to go talk on her cell phone by the bar. My father in-law actually had to go up to the bar to get our drinks re-filled because she never came back to our table. Srsly, I don’t even know you but don’t go here.
