DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel

This was a nice hotel with nice staff during our stay. The room had been updated in the last few years, and the lobby looked nice.
We received our obligatory DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies at check in, and oddly enough, the 12^th floor smelled like chocolate chip cookies every time I went into the hall. Maybe people were microwaving them in their rooms, or the hotel bakes the cookies near the 12^th floor.
Our room, which was scented with lemon or something of the like, was tidy and well kept. It did have a drop ceiling in the bathroom, which wasn’t really attractive and the temp on the shower could not be made hot, however it was not cold either.
The thermostat irritated me because when we arrived it read 67, and the room felt too hot for sleeping so I turned it down. No mater what temp I set it to, the room never became cooler than 67.
The bathroom was fairly small. There was a coffee maker, microwave and a fridge, and complimentary wireless. The bed was comfortable.
As far as the parking situation, we never saw a valet. On site parking with in and out privileges ran us $ 15 a day.
There were two elevators to the rooms functioning and there were no problems getting one in a short amount of time.
The hotel is attached to the skyway, so in the brutal cold or crappy rain you can stay indoors and get to several downtown locations. However, the restaurants in the skyway, which were quick service locations, appeared to be closed on Sundays.

We had a wonderful stay on December 5, 2015 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Downtown St. Paul. We redeemed our Hilton Honor points to book a corner suite on the Honors Floor. We were exceptionally pleased with the customer service at the front desk and with the amenities of the room. The corner room had a beautiful view of the downtown with windows wrapping around the room. The beds were comfortable as is to be expected at Double Tree. We enjoyed breakfast onsite the next morning in the hotel restaurant which was a traditional buffet style. An a la carte breakfast with menu was available additionally, but was not complimentary with our stay. Parking, which can be quite expensive in the Twin Cities was $ 12 per night and we had in and out privileges. Fortunately for us, the hotel is within convenient walking distance of museums, a park, shopping, restaurants and the Xcel Energy Center, so we had no need to retrieve our car. I would definitely stay at this property again.

October 24 was the 75^th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of the St. George Greek Orthodox church. We signed up because it was a once in a lifetime event. The event room is so handy to everything important to a banquet. The bathrooms are right off the main room as well as a separate room for dancing. Many local VIP’s attended including the mayor and State Rep. Amy Klobuchar. The food was fabulous. Even though it was chicken, it was a huge, tender breast, not the standard rubber chicken. The salad dressing a a vinegrette for a delicious Greek salad. I’m trying to recall the dessert, I think it was a tiramisu. Whatever it was I grabbed an unattended one. The service was on spot. The elevators aren’t hell and gone, so the walking wasn’t so bad. This was an unexpected great time, and I hope to return for another event.

We got a great rate on
. Under $ 100 a night (we stayed 4 nights). Parking is another $ 15 per night. The room was clean and housekeeping did a good job. Free papers in the lobby in the morning. Convenient downtown location. All of the employees were super-​polite. What’s not to like?
My only complaint is that the tv volume buttons were broken on a couple of machines in the gym.

The location of the hotel is great!
The service is hit or miss.
The facility is meh.
You receive a delicious cookie upon checking in which is a plus! When they gave it to me, I was expecting some old sugar cookie, but it was delicious, soft and had chocolate chips and nuts!
The space to park during check in can get a little messy during high traffic times. The employee seemed frazzled and not super helpful for those needing to find a space to park. Otherwise, all other staff was helpful, friendly and attentive.
The pool and fitness center are pretty standard and clean.
The Rival House is the restaurant attached to the hotel, although I have not tried their food, their drinks are delicious and they have board games, ping pong tables and other fun games to keep you entertained.

Stayed two nights last weekend, and the hotel is okay. The room was spacious and clean. The Rival House bar attached is a nice feature. The staff was friendly as well. Parking on site was no problem. The big negative was the elevators were malfunctioning. One was out of order, and the other two stopped at every floor every time, which took for ever to get up and down from the 15^th floor. Plus with 2 wedding parties and the women of faith conference, the hotel was full, and so it took easily 15 – 30 minutes to get an elevator. Need to get those fixed!!!

The facility as it sits today is a 2. Its flashback 70s.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who asked. Tho we have stayed at an assortment of Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott over the years, this place had some of the best customer service one could ever hope to have.
The room met our expectations, and the housekeeping staff keeps it in goo Dache. The bed and linens were as comfy as always.
The food for our two breakfasts, and their service were far above my expectations. The complimentary cookies of course were delicious.
The best was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, going way out of their way to assist us with understanding the local train and bus service. They do care about their guests. Even the last person we met, who drove us to the Amtrak station was a most delightful fellow. If we had not a train to catch he would have been interesting to simply visit with, a great ambassador for his city.

Fairly fine hotel. Doubletree beds are always comfortable. I will say, however, that housekeeping threw out a half full bottle of apple cider vinegar that was on my nightstand, and tonight the front desk had no cookies to offer us. My company and I have been staying here for a full week, and after some drinks at the Rival bar, which closed far too early for a weekend night, we were really hoping for cookies. I would not recommend this hotel if you’re hoping for quality service.

My husband surprised me with a two night stay here this weekend for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, he cashed in precious points for this dump.
I can’t think of anything nice to say beyond the check-​in cookies and location. Overall, the room just felt icky and I didn’t feel comfortable taking off my shoes. The bathroom was just completely digesting. As I sat down to pee, all I noticed was lazy cleaning everywhere! Stray hair on the floor, the corners full of mildew, rusted bathroom light fixtures, scratches, dents and chipped paint off around the door frame. The shower corners were dirty, again stray hair left in the shower, the false ceiling tiles appeared so damaged by the humidity and I can just imagine what lurks above them. Shower curtain had two brown smears on it, and in a bathroom there is really just one thing you can think of that would leave these brown stains. Seriously? How disgusting. The fan in the wall above the toilet had so much dust inside, there is no way it had been cleaned in a decade. The bathroom mirror looked like it was wipes but the frame had toothpaste splatter remaining. Outside of the bathroom, the carpet in front of the fridge/​coffee maker/​micro had an ENORMOUS brown stain from coffee I am sure, wonder how many years that has been there?
All of this was noticed within the first hour of our stay and to be honest I am not going to review the rest of the room because I made a conscious effort to not inspect any further so I wouldn’t have to make my husband find us a new hotel. Though, I could not avoid the dust bunnies everywhere, and faded yellow electrical outlets were full of some kind of brownish goo? No idea, but it looked nasty and like something that should have easily been cleaned or replaced.
Beyond the filthiness, I would like add how uncomfortable it was to shower without soft water. In the year 2015, what kind of Hilton hotel doesn’t have soft water for guests?
Late night pizza in the bar is disgusting and the service was poor both nights when we stopped for drinks. Twenty minutes after ordering a drink the bartender finally came back and asked my husband if he needed another drink, as my husband said what he wanted again the bartender even acknowledged he forgot. Plus side I guess is he didn’t charge us for two drinks.
Never again in my life. Can’t believe our points were wasted here.

The location is great for what I need. I would give the staff 5 stars as they’ve always been very pleasant and helpful. The on-​site dining options are limited to the restaurant downstairs, but they have decent pizzas & salads and a good beer list. The fitness center is small, but the equipment is newer and it’s not super cramped. It’s connected to the skywalk so you can get around downtown without going outside (big plus in the winter). If you have business or pleasure in downtown St Paul, this is a decent option.

I’ve stayed at this hotel twice, 5 days each, and am scheduled to stay once or twice more. I have been happy with the hotel and my treatment during both stays. My only complaint is that it needs some minor maintenance performed to make the rooms great.
For example, in the two rooms I stayed in the door frame in the bathroom was scuffed up because of the door stopper, the bathtub/​shower could use a little fixing, and the toilet seat was loose. Probably the most annoying thing about the room was that I couldn’t change the temperature.
I love that the hotel is connected to the Skyway. From the time I arrived at the hotel, visited my clients’ site, and left the hotel, I never had to go outside in the cold. There were plenty of dining places connected to the Skyway. If I wanted to try something else, the shuttle would take me up to 3 miles away.
I’ll be staying here again in a few weeks.

I had a very pleasant stay here.
I ended up getting in late, and not arriving to the hotel until 6am the morning after I was supposed to check in. I called ahead, and the girl who answered was very polite and seemed to appreciate the notice. They were able to get a room ready for my by the time I arrived.
My room was clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. It felt modern and recently updated. I really enjoy having a mini fridge in the room for any leftovers I might come by, as well as a desk to plug in and get some work done. The wifi worked well enough, so I was happy.
The restaurant that serves breakfast only was OK– nothing to write home about, but serves basic eggs and home fries and such.
I didn’t visit the pool or the fitness room, so I can’t speak to those. I did use the business center one morning to print something, and the printing was free, which I appreciated.
For the price, I thought it was very nice, and the service was friendly and prompt.

Average. Lots of little things in disrepair in the bathroom but a super staff, clean beds, and the famous DTree cookie at check in. I’m just camping here for the night after a short musical tour. It’s all fine, just not great.
Towels were the low point for me. Paper thin and grey-​ish. Also wished the windows could open.
Biggest surprise – three full sized ping pong tables off the lobby. How fun!
Hilton Honors members have their own floor and get a couple free bottles of water.

They suck. Don’t stay here. I agree it does need a remodel, the rooms are terrible.
The restaurant in the hotel is frickin horrible. Don’t eat there.
Why am I in Minnesota ?? J/​k there actually are nice places around here.

Our experience here was completely different than that of others.
I’ll start with the bad — we did get put into a handicap room — the hotel could def update this one. The open shower was a bit gnarly, the bathroom was sparse and very dated. Carpets in the room should be replaced.
The good — the next morning (of a 5 night stay) we asked to be moved to a room with a bathtub (mainly for our 4 year old who hated the shower as much as we did). It was done with zero hassle and ready by 12 noon.
We were part of a block of rooms for a wedding. The block rate was only good for Friday and Saturday night. We spoke with the Sales Manager and got it extended through our entire stay. Saved us about $ 150 total. Points for that.
Voucher for the breakfast buffet — and food was a hit! We expected a toaster, stale bagels and some hard boiled eggs. Not so — coffee and juice kept comin’, tons of eggs, meats, potatoes, fresh fruit, fresh yogurt (and yogurt cups). Everything was great and very nice not to have to spend extra $ on breakfast — especially on the weekend there is NOTHING open around that area… a bagel joint, and that’s it. Literally. Staff for breakfast were very accommodating and pleasant.
Hotel staff — couldn’t have been any better. Always took care of every request even those at our odd hours trying to find a decent bar to go to… and like the restaurant staff, very accommodating. And yes, they were very generous with the cookies.
There’s a coin operated washer and dryer (laundry soap included free) in a small room adjacent to the pool. Nice bonus.
The room — overall — no complaints. Yeah, the carpet could probably be replaced, but it wasn’t tragic by any means. They relocated us to a higher floor so we had a decent view. Everything was spotless clean. Housekeeping (we had a guy named Swama, I believe… Indian fella that has lived in MN for 25 years) and he was beyond pleasant and again, very accommodating to our minor additional requests. The room was spotless every day.
OVERALL — very good experience and I would recommend. No issues, no nastiness.

I had my house hunting trip and decided to stay in St. Paul. I have been here before for a happy hour but that was pretty short. I got to really see Mears Park and the St. Paul farmers market which was great. The location of the Double Tree Hotel is the best being just a couple blocks away from Mears Park. I drove from Des Moines to St. Paul so needed a place to park while I ran around apartments in Lower Town. The front desk clerk was really accommodating and allowed for early check-​in at 8:30 AM. Yeah, I was tired after 4 hour drive so rested a bit before heading out. Plus, I got a freshly baked chocolate and walnut cookie. Yess…
I got 2 breakfast vouchers and a coupon (Buy 1 Get 1 free drink) for the Town Grill. It can be confusing to see a buffet in the huge open space just to left of the Town Grill. I as well as another couple got confused at crashed a private event. Oh well, the quiche was not particular good being very dry. The couple on the other hand brought their buffet with them to the Town Grill. Great spread of fruits like cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, and pineapple. Oatmeal was also good as well. I have to say the coffee was stronger than I usual like. I had dinner as well here and it was good as well.
The pool was a decent size and I also tried the exercise room. So, I have no complaints on the amenities. The weekend rate was far more reasonable at less than $ 90. During the week, Hilton jacks up the price so try the weekend. Beware of homeless across the Double Tree hotel since they are waiting for traveling folks. Otherwise, it’s the city so expect a little of this. Overall, my stay was even better than I expected.

I’d agree with all the reviews posted. Not a good hotel. I’m Diamond too, so you’d think I’d get good service. My profile says «Low Floor, Away from Elevator.» So I get room 870… which is not a low floor and is right next to the elevator.
Curtains are torn and missing bracket holders on several. The fridge in the room sounds like it’s going to die and rattles and growls. I cannot get the heat in the room to work and then find out in the AM that one of the windows had been open all night while it’s 12 degrees outside. It’s 63 degrees in my room.
Breakfast buffet is not well stocked. Out of potatoes, sad looking fruit, breads looked like they were just thrown in the bins. Service was not accommodating.
This hotel looks like it was built in the late 80s and hasn’t received any attention since. There is an Embassy Suites just one mile away that looked better from the outside (but I know how that can work too).

A cookie is always a good start when checking into a hotel. Staying here for the WCHA final five was very handy. A hop, skip and a jump away from the X. There are also a bunch of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The times I’ve stayed here the view hasn’t been the best but I didn’t come to this hotel for the view.
If you know your way around the St Paul skyline you can reach the Xcel Energy Center without having to go outside. Its not marked very well so make sure you have a map handy or are with someone who knows where to go.

Bottom Line — No thanks, and probably not again.
I stayed for 4 nights in December 2012 and had a negative-​leaning experience. I believe this is the only HHonors hotel in St. Paul; it used to be the Hilton Garden Inn (the mattresses are still the HGI type).
ROOM
I am Diamond VIP with HHonors, and upon check-​in, they had assigned me to room 1760, which is on the top floor. The room had textured wallpaper reminiscent of what you would expect to find in the home of The Golden Girls. The carpet was quite worn, and the furniture was a mix between some (like the bed frame and side tables) that are maybe a few years old, and others (the chairs, ottoman and lamps) probably a few decades old. I moved one of the large chairs to make room for the ironing board, only to find the square spot (that the chair covered) full of dust. The carpet was green, and the square spot was grey. WTF!!! This hotel definitely had lazy housekeeping. I didn’t even want to move any of the other furniture for fear of what I would find.
The bathroom was on the smaller side, but that wasn’t the problem. The bathtub was in dire need of deep cleaning, and the fan sucked air in at the bottom, only to blow it back out on the top. If you imagine what a Motel 6 room smells like, that is what the bathroom smelled like (I highly suspected it to be mold) so I kept the door closed at all times! Also, regarding the bathroom fan, there was an engraved note on the front that stated «Replace Filter Every 6 Months,» but when you looked at the filter, there was a huge nasty dust clump visible on the inside, as well as tiny dust clumps sticking to the slits in the cover. The fan was at eye-​level right over the toilet, so it really shouldn’t have been missed by housekeeping or maintenance… it definitely hadn’t been cleaned in YEARS. DISGUSTING.
The walls are quite thin; I could hear the TV in the next room, so if you’re sensitive to noise: beware.
SERVICE
A couple nights in to my stay, I called for fresh towels (since I decline housekeeping throughout my stay), but after 45 minutes, they still had not arrived. I had to call once again, and the gal (who initially took my request) all of a sudden remembered, and she did feel badly about forgetting. Aside from the lousy guest service response, the front desk agents are pretty nice and have a positive attitude. The star rating I assigned wasn’t impacted by the service… more the (lack of) quality of the actual room.
RESTAURANT (BREAKFAST)
If you’re Diamond VIP, they give you breakfast vouchers for the restaurant on the 2^nd level. The breakfast is pretty basic; I would never pay for this particular one as the quality of the food is less than mediocre. I will, however, recommend the Meritage restaurant just a couple blocks away on St. Paul Street if you’re looking for lunch or dinner. The escargots appetizer, the burger from the bar menu and the half crispy chicken are particularly fantastic.
PARKING
Parking is quite convenient, and the daily self-​park rate is $ 15 per night with in and out privileges. There is street parking; it’s pay by meter from 8a-​6p, but I did notice a few broken car windows when I was walking on St. Paul Street a couple blocks away… The area is pretty deserted during weeknights as far as I could tell.
OVERALL
This is probably the most uncomfortable and disappointing DoubleTree experience I’ve ever had. Next time I’m working in St. Paul, I’m going back to the Westin Minneapolis (where I had stayed the previous week)… the commute from Downtown Minneapolis to Downtown St. Paul in the morning really wasn’t that bad (about 15 minutes), and returning in the evening wasn’t bad, either (15 minutes again).
