CHS Field

I was delighted to enjoy a game here in 2015 during the inaugural season during which the St. Paul Saints won against the Joplin Blasters. CHS Field is easy to find and parking nearby was not a big deal. On the night I attended a game, a local organization was giving away compost outside. Oh how I love the Midwest.
Upon entry, we were greeted by the Shikoku Island League Plus (a Japanese independent professional baseball team). They were in town for an exhibition game the next day against the Saints, courtesy of the Japan American Society of Minnesota. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be in town the next day but gladly paid $ 1 to get a picture with the enthusiastic team.
Once inside we walked around the spacious park. Beyond the outfield we found the craft beer corner with some great local beer options without much waiting. We hit up the team store (mostly for some air conditioning) before taking our seats. One of the unique things about CHS Field is the Drink Rail Seats. They are set up behind the lower box seats with bar stools and bar table. It’s a nice comfortable way to enjoy the game — and you don’t have to ask everyone to get up when you leave your seat. This option was new, though, so even though we had assigned seats many fans didn’t realize they were actual ticketed seats. I had to ask people to a couple times to move.
Like most minor league teams The St. Paul Saints have theme night games, mid-​inning entertainment and hold community events during the season at CHS Field. The Saints mascot Mudonna was all over the place mingling with the crowd and happy to take a picture with any fan.
I admit we left before the end of the game due to a painfully early flight the next morning. But perhaps the best surprise of the night was the foul ball that flew across our path as we left the game. Great end to a great vacation.

This ballpark is unbelievably nice. Great sight lines, great eats, craft beers, right in downtown (lower town) St Paul. Prices are better than Target Field. The Saints have managed to keep some of the hokey activities from Midway, like the dizzy races, the pig etc… which somehow feel cheesy in such a nice venue. Maybe not needed anymore? But then the long time fans would revolt, I’m sure.
The concourses do get crowded on game day — it was sold out the day we went and hard to navigate to get to the concessions. But all in all, a nice place for a great relaxing afternoon of baseball!

I promise to be as objective as I can in the forthcoming drivel, but I’m admittedly a tad biased and still a bit perturbed about the City’s use of eminent domain to build this surprisingly nice ballpark on what used to be a very serviceable piece of land my association owned. But hey, I’ve got a Minneapolis address now and life is too short to spite bureaucrats, so on to the important stuff.
PROS
— Well designed, but still somewhat minimalist stadium, which is fitting of the neighborhood
— Solid beer selection at the Beer Dabbler trailer
— Not a bad seat in the place
— Open during the days and for many other events for people to enjoy
— Still plenty of gimmicks, fireworks, etc. that have made Saints games entertaining over the years
M’EH
— Parking can be a pain to find
— Food/​beer lines can get a bit long at times

First time going and had lots of fun! Went on the light rail and there was barely anyone on it!
The food options were okay, nothing spectacular, but very reasonable prices in comparison to other stadiums. There were lots of little events and things to do and not one bad place to sit. Which is why everyone d should go to a Saints game! Because they are so much more fun than even a Twins game! More activities, great views, easy transportation and cheap food/​tickets? Good bye Twins and Hello St. Paul Saints!
Also we made franchise history by having the largest amount of people attend a game ever! A little under 300,000 people! That’s was pretty unique!

Love the field, SO close to me, only 10 minutes away! Lots to see & plenty of things going on. We had really great seats, I could see the players up close & personal ;)
Fun was had by all once we found a parking spot!
BIG complaint, I bought 2 Kinky wine coolers, cost me $ 15.00, they weren’t very cold so I asked for a glass of ice, guess what? $ 4.00 for a glass of ice! Ridiculous! The cups are counted was their excuse. Fix this problem it’s bad customer service.
The stadium was a hit. yay I’m a fan

I had my first visit to CHS field last Friday. It was a great experience. I don’t think there is a bad seat in the house! I really like that it seems to be more social than Target Field. Here are some of my favorite things about the field:
–Grass seat area — you can sit and watch the game in the outfield. So cute!
–Beer Dabbler booth — they offer a lot of different local beers; I just wish the lines weren’t so long!
–Merchandise — they have super cute Saints gear to purchase
–Entertainers — they kept some of the quirky aspects with some goofy entertainers
–Cheap standing room only tickets — this really makes the game very affordable and there are plenty of places to stand along the field
The only negative I have to say about the field is the lines. There were very long especially at the beer dabbler booth. I was told that during cheap beer/​dog night it gets even worse.
I would definitely recommend putting this on your summer to do list!

First time at the new park. It’s great! Great layout, fun experience, good craft beer available decent food at a reasonable (for a stadium) price. Yeah the lines can be long but seriously other reviewers who gave this place one star, have you been to any stadium ever where there wasn’t lines? I don’t like baseball but like going to Saints games for the entertainment beyond the game. I don’t even know what the score was at the end of the game and I didn’t care, the venue and the experience were worth the price of admission.

This park is so well done. We were very impressed. All the naysayers about a ballpark in lower town must be really embarrassed. The food is ok. The line moved very fast and the workers were quick, accurate and polite. We were worried given the Unilocal reviews that said the lines for food were long and service was not good. We found that to be totally wrong. They must have gotten the message and fixed it. The park is really classy. When looking for your seat, you will find the row number on the ceiling of the upper deck, not on some ugly sign on the wall. Go and have fun. We had an absolute blast. Saints lost but we didn’t even care.

I went to CHS Field last night for the first time to cheer for the St. Paul Saints and it was a blast. Baseball games can get long, but there is always something going on at a Saints game. I love that about this team. The stadium is also found in a growing area of St. Paul close to the Metro Line and many neat places to eat, as well as the Farmer’s Market. Did I mention this stadium is «green» in how they manage their resources? Not bad.
Now they have a great venue to play in. There are about 10 different food options to choose from ranging from pizza, burgers, sandwiches, ice cream, and hot dogs and they even have a craft beer corner which looked like they had about a dozen different beers to choose from. Prices are about what you would expect at a national team stadium. The lines were not as crazy as other reviews have published, maybe they were hungry at the same time as everyone else or it was just busy because the stadium is still fairly new. We were able to get something to eat and drink in under five-​ish minutes.
The seats are pretty comfortable (albeit a bit tight) and you get great seats up close to what is going on in the field. Just keep your eyes open for foul balls, a woman behind us got smacked in the arm with one that veered wildly into the crowd. But hey, she got a free ball with that welt! There is also a small grassy lawn across the field if you want to blanket it up with the kids and it is right next to the ice cream stand and bathrooms.
Lowertown will benefit greatly from this new stadium; it will be fun to watch the Saints play in such an awesome location! Go Saints!

I love, love, love the new field. It is beautiful and well laid out.
*The comments about food lines are true, they do have some work to do to improve the speed and availabiliy of food but I am confident as with anything new there will be some growing pains that need to be addressed. See my other reviews about food in the lowertown area and grab something before or after the game. Tons of good food places within 2 block of the stadium.
*The seating and view is great, if you have the option of going on a fireworks night I would highly recommend it.
*Some places started crazy high on parking pricing, around $ 15-​$ 20 you can find open lots for $ 8, that are within two blocks of the stadium.
I have not been to anything other than Saints games but am looking forward to watching some college and high school tournaments. Thanks CHS for stepping up as a primary sponsor and turning an old beat up building into a great, entertaining venue!

Went tonight and we really were dissapointed!
I usually embrace change but this is not a good change IMO.
A few things I did appreciate were:
Tables near the food to eat rather then be crushed eating in your seats.
And the view from the seats seemed great.
Seemed like a variety of food.
Now for the bad:
seats are really tight. Even skinny people seemed to be sitting on top of each other. Next time if we go we will sit on the ‘burm’
Seems to have lost the small town feel. Big name company’s advertising vs in the past small town mom and pop shops.
No where for the kids to go… Old stadium had jumpers, a small playground etc.
No tailgating. Lame
Parking was mayhem and way over priced.
Lines for food were extremely long and the prices are pretty ridiculous on the food.
Not all food places had everything. If you wanted ice cream you have to go way on the other side. Wish it was all in one spot! Wait in line for 30 minutes for a burger then wait another 30 way over there for a hot dog!!!
Staff didn’t seem as friendly as before. We miss the jokes and silliness of the announcers. Even Mudonna seemed rushed around.
So overall both my husband and I agreed it lost the family friendly fun atmosphere. Everyone seems rushed and pushy. It def. changed for the worse.
Very sad and dissapointed! We left within an hour! We are pretty easy going people but this was not what we expected!!!

While the park is nice and clean and the open air environment really great, part of going to any ballpArk is getting a bite to eat. I spent over 30 minutes in line to get a hot dog-​missed 2 innings and was only about 10 people ahead of me. This place earns a BIG #fail on the concession front. There are only four small booths and they are staffed with the slowest people ever! Must have rounded them up off the street and put them to work without any training. How long can it possibly take to reach into a drawer, grab a hot dog and hand it to a customer???
To make matters worse, you get to repeat the experience multiple times because this stand only serves hot dogs, that one over their is the burger one, the one in the outfield is the only place to get ice cream (but just on half the stand). Then you have to try and find the condiment stand and napkins.
Forget the food here, the chicken finger and fries were under cooked, as was the brat. Prices are reasonable but quality is low and wait for this marginal food unacceptable.

Love the new stadium! Great food choices and excellent craft beer. Location is great with easy access to freeways. Only problem we had was parking, but hopefully after a few more trips we will figure out the best spots. Would take the light rail if I lived west of St Paul.

Very nice park. I’ve been to a number of sports venues, and ball fields in general, and for a minor league stadium, this is a very well done one with fantastic features.
View — as you’ll see from the pics, a great view from any angle and any seat. They did an amazing job in ensuring the spectators get a great sight line to the plate and playing field in general.
Chow — not bad at all. Standard stadium chow is there — dogs, pizza, and nachos — plus some other awesome things like Snuffys, coffee shop beverages, burgers, and other deep fried items. Good ups on the variety. Appreciated that.
Parking — lots of options down off Kellogg and the light rail takes you to the door steps, no complaints.
Bathrooms — good amount of them to keep guests from wanting to urinate on the trees in the park, good job!
Random stuff, I loved the random slots of concrete missing all around the concourse and giving way to grass. Was a nice touch, and the dog appreciated it when I brought him to «bring your canine» day. On that day, I’d avoid the grassy spots… just saying. Awesome areas for seating and eating set away from the concourse so you’re not sitting in traffic. Appreciated that too. Prices weren’t too bad all around either, shockingly. I know it’s a minor league park, but, for it being a new park, I thought the prices would be higher. Can’t complain about seeing them lower than you’d expect.
Beer dabbler was a nice touch with many fine brews for those craft beer junkies.
Vendors were a little slow and some vendor lines wrapped into the concourse which made it a mess at times. Only reason for the 4 star.

We were all really impressed with so much about this venue!
The varied entertainment between innings was fun for all ages.
The many options of seating was fantastic: from seating of tables & chairs facing the field around much of the stadium edge, to regular seats like we had, to the $ 5 slanted grassy areas near third base that worked out great for families with children who can’t sit still and need to move around.

Beautiful field. We went on a rainy day and it was still incredible. I was so impressed by all of the concessions people in the rain, but still cheerful and helpful.
Difficult to see as there is no policy against umbrellas in the stands (like Target Field has), so our view was VERY obstructed. My advice — go on a sunny day :-)
