Descent St Paul sandwich for a county Fried rice place. The best spots are still in the City of St Louis 3⁄5 Plain Fried rice 3⁄5 Descent stuff for nothing to write home about but it will get the job done. Crab Rangoon: 3⁄5 not fried quite the way a love them but, they will do if I need some in a pinch and I am in the area.

Wong’s Inn serves familiar, inexpensive Chinese food, the sort of fare you imagine when you think«take out.» Their prices are so low it’s a wonder they can remain in business. I suppose that’s why chop sticks are $.15, fortune cookies are $.10, and a bag of six fortune cookies are $.70. It’s also why they don’t play around with flecks of egg, onion, or carrot in their fried rice and why the crab rangoon doesn’t try to dupe you with imitation crab. Salty rice and gooey cream cheese wrapped in fried wonton is what you earned for your $ 5.50. Say thank you. For that matter, you haven’t paid enough to complain about anything.(Not like you’d complain. You’re going to have your reasonable expectations met.) The interior is what you’d expect from a place relying upon razor thin profit margins. A huge backlit menu with the light turned off, laminate tables with utilitarian benches, a refrigerator bearing advertisements for a soft drink no longer served, the obligatory prints of badly fading Asian art in their plastic frames, a flyer for Medicare services likely subsidizing the eatery’s bottom line, and multiple outdated calendars with the Chinese zodiac prominently featured(by Dec. 7, Wong’s had already turned the page on 2015). The clientele, at least during lunch time, are blue collar types with appetites are as big as their need for frills is small. While waiting for your order, try to find endearing grammatical blunders on the restaurant’s posted copy. Should you eat here? Let me ask a follow up question. Do you wish to be rid of your hunger for less than the price some places charge for valet parking? If yes to the latter, then yes to the former. You will get your fill and enjoy consuming it, so long as you like the taste of soy sauce.

I recently visited this establishment and this will be my last time. I ordered crab Rangoon and it smelled and tasted sour. The wongs special rice was flavorless and seemed to have been leftover from yesterday. I ended up throwing the food and my money away. If you are looking for good chinese go to Chong’s Wok or Chinese Noodle Café.

Nice and clean when I walked in. Customer service was friendly and quick, and fairly priced. Got everything I wanted, exactly like I wanted it.

First time here, had Mongolian beef, veg fried rice and egg drop soup. All were made to order fresh while I waited. No surprises good or bad. Menu is nice and complete, except no won ton soup, fairly priced. Seating area was clean and had plenty of room. Minor disappointment, no fortune cookies included with meal — extra charge. Seems like every other place can manage to throw a couple in when you order a meal.

Good basic chinese. Great price. I normally get vegetable dishes, they will modify upon request(sweeter or spicier or no egg). Appears to be family owned. They are what they say. Good chinese at a good price. Mainly a take out place. A bit of a dive to eat in, but they do have chairs. Reliable, a solid 4 star in my book.

Sorry guys, but this is some of the worst Chinese food I’ve had. I live in Maplewood and always try to support local businesses, but I’ll pass on this one. I tried the Empress Chicken as recommended and sesame chicken and we didn’t eat either because it was so bad. One of them had a soggy, over-sauced breaded coating and the other had tough, stringy chicken. Even the fried rice was flavorless. Yes, fried rice. The place needs a décor overhaul, even if there are only a few tables to sit at.

Friendly family run place. I always get the kung pow chicken which they can make extra spicy if you request it. The crab rangoon is very good too. Call ahead!

I went out with a friend looking for cheap Chinese food. Wong’s Inn seemed like the place. But even the low price doesn’t warrant what I received in my Kung Pao Chicken. It was barely spicy(or had any taste besides the celery and other aromatics) and my plate seemed untouched after I picked through it to find the chicken I had ordered. The fried rice was bad, but rangoons were okay. My friend got the Wong’s Sandwich special which he thoroughly enjoyed. They also sell glass Cokes which is a positive. Not enough of a perk to go back anytime soon.

There used to be another Chinese Take-away in Richmond Heights/Maplewood — the Hunan Garden or Palace or something like that — also on Big Bend, and that style of American Chinese food was my favorite, but Wong’s is okay for a neighborhood joint. The food is always good, but not always consistent. Either way, it’ll satisfy a craving for Chinese food, whether it’s just okay or you hit them on a really good day. Definitely nothing that’ll blow your hat off, but also very tasty and satisfying and really classic St. Louis Chinese food. They were, I believe, one of the first Chinese restaurants to offer a St. Paul sandwich(something I’ve always wanted to like, but I just can’t handle all those nasty little minced onions). My only complaint would be the size of the steamed rice, and rice is cheap so I can’t figure out why they’re so stingy with it! All other portions are perfectly normal-sized, but the steamed rice is dollhouse-sized. The people who work here are always super-nice to customers, and even the really young employees don’t stand behind the counter and text and get annoyed when customers come in, which is getting pretty common everywhere. Wong’s has been in Maplewood for a long, long time and I hope they continue to be here — it’s a local institution! It’s always a little bit of a treat when we get take-away from Wong’s Inn, so as long as their food remains one of life’s little pleasures, we’ll keep going there!

I work in the Maplewood area and am always use to going to Joy Luck Buffet when craving Chinese food. Wong Inn’s is priced well for whole orders, but even better priced for their lunch specials. Their sweet and sour chicken was good, similar to most Chinese restaurants. It came with fried rice and two crab rangoon. I also ordered hot and sour soup which had a unique taste compared to similar restaurants. I was not expecting the large portion of soup I received — be aware of the size. At a decent price, I recommend this place if you’re looking to order Chinese take-out during the typical work-week.

Decent I guess. Didn’t like that the sweet and sour chicken had the sauce on it already-when it’s take out, the breading gets all mushy. Prefer to have the sauce separate. Also, they didn’t have won ton soup!!! I’ve definitely had better.

First time going and it was delicious! There was one thing I didn’t like, but overall there were so many good things I had to give it 4 stars. I got the empress chicken and the boyfriend got the General Tso’s chicken. His was fantastic, very crispy(how I like my chicken), and even the broccoli was fresh and cooked with just enough crunch. Sauce had a little too much soy in it, but it was still very good. Mine was okay — the outside ended up being a little soggy. Super bummer, since I like mine a little bit crispier. We picked it up a little late, so I think it probably just sat a little too long. The vegetables were still good, although not as crispy as the Tso’s. Sauce had the perfect amount of heat. Both were probably a not that healthy, but we didn’t come looking for health food. The price was another huge plus — under $ 20 for two dinners with rice and an appetizer. Shut the front door. Overall it was good and I will be returning.

Have to agree with all the reviews here. This place is great and crazy cheap. The empress chicken is a must try if you’re looking for something new and you’re tired of always ordering the same thing. Also the crab Rangoon is large and the filling is delicious, and did I mention cheap? Only reason I can’t give thus place 5 stars is that it is closed on Sundays, and no place can ever come close to wongs wok on the loop, which after doing a quick search on here most Unilocalers agree is the best place around, buy please don’t let that discourage you, this is definitively a close second.

My favorite place for cheap Chinese on a Wednesday night, complete with Asian mom who shouts angrily at her daughter. Seriously, this is an awesome place for cheap, quick Chinese food, and they have the BEST St. Paul sandwiches!

Voted by Playboy Magazine as the best St. Paul sandwich, do you need to know more? Well, while that is a splendid title let me tell you a little bit about the most delectable Chinese place ever, yes EVER. My family has been coming here since I was born for Chinese and while we’ve tried other places nothing ever compares to Wong’s Inn. You can’t deny the deliciousness of their St. Paul’s, especially the pork. The boneless hot braised chicken borders the tantalizing line between sweet and spicy perfectly and is always crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with just the right amount of sauce. Other winners include the pork and chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, potstickers and General Tso’s chicken. And their crab rangoon… oh, it would cause Homer Simpson to float through the air, nomming them one by one as if they were pink-iced doughnuts. Mmm crab rangoon… During a brief residence in Springfield, MO where they supposedly have the best Chinese, I tried finding a place as good as Wong’s Inn and never did.(Cashew chicken, smashew chicken…) If you’re looking for the best little Chinese place in the metro area, Wong’s Inn is it. Beware of the parking lot, it’s a steep hill straight off Big Bend. Sometimes it can be tricky backing down the hill when you’re leaving.

First impressions, my fortune looks promising. The restaurant was busy, very clean, with a few tables for dining… but mostly people waiting for takeout orders. I placed my order and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. Sweet and Sour Chicken and a large Hot and Sour Soup for less than $ 10. They had fortune cookies and other cookies for sale at the register, I figured there were 2 in the bag so I passed on additional .10cent fortunes. Don’t want to push my luck. My fortune took a turn for the worst as it slowly declined when I got the goods home and opened the bag. Inside was a very small box of white rice. No more than a cup, not enough to share. The sweet and sour chicken had a thick flaming orange/red sauce and the chicken was your typically deep fried«bad Chinese» chicken. Nothing special. The large soup is about 28oz(for just $ 3!)…more than enough, that’s a good sign. It had a good hot and sour balance. A little thicker than most hot and sours I’ve had, but I liked it. It was more filling and I did much less slurping. The leftover soup cooled down into a mold of hot and sour gelatin. The soup was by far my favorite part, aside from the piece of chicken gristle I found in it… bad luck? Even wost yet, they don’t put fortune cookies in the bag! Bad luck indeed. I think I’ll stick with my tried and true Chinese takeout places complete with tasty chicken, fortunes and plenty of rice for two(House of Wong and Chinese Express).

Mostly a take-out place only. There might be 2 tables there. The prices are awesome for what you get, and the people there are nice. I was really surprised at how good the food was for how cheap the entire menu was. Unfortunately, they don’t deliver. But from the amount of traffic you see coming and going, you can tell that this place is popular despite the lack of delivery service.
