If you want 90s r&b and hip hop come here on Saturdays. The Blt sandwich is excellent too. They also have board games and pool table. Good spot.

Insanely good(and enormous) sandwiches. Awesome local beer selection. I’ve tried the roast beef with au jus and the buffalo chicken soup and it was a 10⁄10. Highly recommend for a casual late night brew or munchies. Open til 3i and has a hip, young atmosphere. Pool table, arcade games, darts and sporting events on TV.

This place is so delicious! I’m mad at myself for not getting here sooner. It’s definitely a hipster joint, with the live music and décor. I felt very comfortable here, as my friend and I came to catch an NFL game. They have a great selection of draft beer, with many local ones offered, and a great happy hour discount of half off draft beers. We started with the Club and I loved the taste of the red pepper cream cheese on the fresh baguette. My favorite, however, was the Danimal. All the different meats were perfectly flavored and I really enjoyed the avocado cream swiped on top of them through the fresh sourdough bread. Absolutely delicious! I am not a big fan of deli meats, but this place has it going on! Everything looked and tasted fresh and very flavorful. For«dessert» we had the Elvis, which had a generous dose of crunchy peanut butter, jelly, sliced bananas, and honey. So, so good! As a bonus, the staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. I will definitely be frequenting this joint in the near future!

This place has some of the best sandwiches in town! I would put it right up there with Blues City-a different style of sandwich-but just as awesome! I haven’t had a sandwich that I didn’t like! My husband and I are big fans of the Mississippi Nights Club and the Danimal, but the Meatball, Turnpike, and the Frenchie are all worth noting. Really nice beer selection. My only complaint is that it’s too damned close to our house, so it’s a constant temptation and takes tremendous willpower on our part not to eat here daily!

This is an updated review. I got a half-danimal to go again, this time on ciabatta. It did, indeed, hold up better on the drive home than the default bread I previously had. In fact, after I threw on a bit of horseradish mustard, the sandwich was more or less perfect. I also love that there isn’t an upcharge for ordering only half – it costs precisely half as much as a whole sandwich. This place also offers my favorite trivia in the city. Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

You cannot order a bad sandwich from this place. My go to is the Smoked Salmon. They’re consistent every time. The staff is also super friendly and welcoming. It’s great that they have an outdoor area and plenty of games.

One of the best reubens in STL. Nice bar scene with good food. I work near by and stopped in for lunch.

Always did like the space. Since changing directions from a music venue they have moved things around and cut the room in half with a wall of stuff. Seats are on both sides of said wall with a small bandstand/DJ booth by the front door next to bar. There was a guy playing guitar while we had lunch. He just added to the hipster vibe. I felt like I was in an episode of «Girls». Now to why I came. I pretty much always order a Reuben if a sandwich spot has them. I know a good Reuben and this is a great Reuben. The corned beef was fresh, house made, tender, flavorful and delicious. The bread was perfectly crisp and the sauerkraut was shredded and cooked perfectly. There was a perfect amount of thousand island dressing and it was good too.(I hate a dry sandwich) I ordered a half sandwich and a cup of their white bean chicken chili. I didn’t love the chili. No biggie. I didn’t come for that. I ended up getting another half a Reuben and she only charged me as if I’d gotten a whole to begin with. Clutch! I will go back. I want to try every sandwich on the menu. The French bread type bread was VERY good. I had a bite of my daughter’s sandwich. Hers had turkey and the turkey was juicy. Yum! I can’t wait to go back for more. It might be today :)

I’ve been twice, the first time was with a Groupon. It was a great experience so I have been back once more and plan to return soon. Both visits the service was fantastic. Super friendly bartenders and awesome(and giant) sandwiches. Fun place to hang out with darts and pool.

Since renovating/re-operating as a Sandwich Shop and Bar, the Gramophone has become a much more welcomed location in the Grove. The sandwiches here are on point and it seems as if they’re the center around Gramophone’s new image. I personally would recommend the Jive or BBBLT. The former is rich with turkey and bacon along with tons of fixins crammed nicely on top(swiss cheese, avacado, pepper-mayo, lettuce, tomato) on a baguette. The latter is a simple classic which is loaded to the brim with hickory smoked bacon featuring cholula mayo on toasted sourdough. On my next visit I plan to try to the Delcortivo(ham, roast beef, salami, prosciutto, etc… damn). Your choice of local Billy Goat chips, housemade slaw or potato salad is also offered as sides with the sandwiches. The front bar is well stocked and still retains many features of the previous Gramophone operation when it was a music venue. The real highlight here is the rotating draught list. During my last visit, a few Modern Brewery taps were added, many of them brand new concoctions. The rear of the location sort of acts as a typical«bar lounge» with ample seating, TVs, pinball machines, darts and a pool table. The décor of the location pulls this all together with a subtle«speakeasy» feel. A perfect hangout for any sort of pre-gaming or Sunday afternoon«Hair Of The Dog» session. I still have many memories of the Gramophone’s earlier days as a music venue and I had plenty of fun with it as such… but I feel it’s latest refresh is much needed and has certainly made the spot much more appealing.

Got here around midnight to find the kitchen is open until 2AM. I’ve heard about the sandwiches, so we had to get a couple of those and some pints. Had the Alcatraz and a Mississippi Nights Club. The Alcatraz literally tasted like I was eating french onion soup with a crispy croûton on top. It was gooey and toasty and delicious. The Mississippi Nights Club was fantastic as well. I’m not a huge«club» fan but this was terrific. Plenty of bacon and the crushed up chips were a great addition to the consistency. The prices are a little up there for a sandwich, but keep in mind how large they are. The quality and quantity make this a perfect late night choice.

Yes, yes, yes. Overall awesome place, and now my new favorite lunch spot. I visited a few months ago, for a craft fair. Fiancée and I wanted to grab lunch yesterday, and this was a good option because I work at WUSM, and I wanted to try their new menu. I ordered their French dip/Italian beef with pickles, and it was AWESOME. I’m still drooling over it. The gentlemen who took our order was great; he mentioned their special of the day, which as a Cuban-type sandwich. The inside is nice, but chill. I like how they have some video games, a pool table, and board games for patrons to use. I definitely will be back for lunch. And I’d come in the evenings, maybe for Tenacious Trivia.

Good sandwiches but they REALLY need to lower their prices… $ 10 for a sandwich?! I could justify paying that price if it came with a side or something, but that is wayyyy too much for just an average sized sandwich. You can go to Blues City Deli and get a gigantic sandwich for $ 6.00. I’d like to go back, but I just don’t know if I can justify those prices.

I visited the Gramophone on a Wednesday night for Trivia. When my friends and I arrived the bartender welcomed us and told us that we could sit anywhere for trivia so we chose a table in the main room near the bar. We each ordered a drink and socialized while waiting for the games to start. In the meantime, I was amazed at how long the line was to order! Seriously, people were ordering sandwiches like they were going out of style. I knew that they had to be good just based on the lines. Long story short… we played trivia and came in 2nd place which means we won a $ 20 gift card! The plan was already in place… we were going to have to come back and eat a sandwich! Perfection. A few days later my friend and I met up for lunch. When we arrived we sat at the bar and looked over the menu. We noticed that everyone was ordering at the end of the bar so we made our way over to the line. I ordered the frenchie(no bacon) with chips. I can’t remember what my friend ordered. The total for 2 half sandwich, 2 bags of chips and 2 beers was $ 25! What a deal. We used the gift card and then paid the difference. We went back to our seats to wait for the food and the bartender brought us our beers. He also brought over chips(regular and sweet potato) I had no idea Billy Goat Chips came in sweet potato too; so I decided to try those. After about 5 minutes the sandwiches were delivered and wrapped up in foil to keep the heat in. I couldn’t wait to eat it. I unwrapped my sandwich and took my first bite which was amazing. The bread was crunchy(but not too crunchy) just a perfect consistency. The flavors went so well together and the chicken was perfectly flavored and tender. The way a sandwich should be. I am glad I only ordered the half sandwich because it really was filling. I ate every single bite and enjoyed it until the end. My friend and I were both pleased with the sandwiches we ordered and we already agreed to go back another day! If you have’t tried the sandwiches here I recommend you do! They have a wide selection; I’m sure you’ll find something!

I can’t believe I’ve never been here before! Their sandwiches are not only reasonably priced, but awesome in taste and quality. I got the cold salmon, and was pleasantly surprised by the addition of goat cheese and some other interesting ingredients that made the blend of flavors explode in my mouth. If drinks are what you’re after, may I suggest going for brunch? Their Bloody Mary is in my top 3 I’ve ever had, and if they used larger, perhaps stuffed, green olives, it would be given a firm shove into the number one spot. All in all, a great breakfast, and I’m already ready to go back, and not just because I left my debit card there. Bonus: one of the bartenders looks, sounds, and laughs uncannily just like Seth Rogen

Fantastic sandwiches. Awesome environment. Vintage Record LPs, Indie St. Louis record label F5 records on the wall, old skateboards hanging on the wall. Darts, pool table, and a Walking Dead pinball machine. As sad as I was to see the death of one of my favorite music venues here in the Lou close and reopen into a sandwich shop/bar. I am stoked on Roo’s decision. I am grateful for my time djing and rocking shows with everyone over the years here. The sandwiches are incredible! I had the Mississippi Night Club, The Elvis, and some house made slaw. My girlfriend had a beast of a Bloody Mary, it had a Reuben sandwich as a garnish! She also had The Jive. All were spectacular! If you are looking for a rad environment and a great sandwich shop… You found it!

I saw a friends facebook post about winning free Cardinal tickets here on a Tuesdays so I figured I try it. Laid-back place on Tuesday night with actual vinyl being played from a single turntable behind the bar. It was nice hearing full songs & not digital mixes. Great beer selection! Ordered a Dale’s Pale Ale & thought it was OK till started eating the Bahn Mi sandwich. I then ask for more IPA w/more hops & was served a Monster Ale that was 10.9%. For a 10.9% beer or any IPA, it was tasty yet not really hoppy.(I started to realize my beer connoisseur friends have destroyed my hop scale w/extreme beers.) The Bahn Mi sandwich was very tasty. If you get one, good luck getting a great matching beer.

This was my second time coming here in 2 weeks. I love the vibe about this place and don’t get me started on the sandwiches! They are AWESOME!!! I really love the ruben, it is always toasty and never soggy! That have a pool table, a pinball machine and darts. Tuesday night they have a dart league. Oh, almost forgot they have a large selection of beer not just the big names, but local micro breweries.

This iconic venue has been in the Grove for some time. It’s easily recognizable with it’s large Broadway type store sign outside. But I had never stepped inside until this week. They’ve recently remodeled, and although I don’t have an idea of what it looked like before, I will say that the space is really, really cool. The space is open, with simple adornments. The bar side features a long case of to-go craft beer. The bar iitself is outfitted with a really good selection of wiskeys and a bunch of local craft beer taps. The other half of the bar features a pool table, soft tip and steel tip dartboards, a Walking Dead pinball machine and a few TVs. The TV’s were playing classic movies but the owner gladly tuned one to the Blues game when it came on. There was a cool patio outside but it was too cold to enjoy it… oh and they have their own parking lot next to the building. Plus. For food, they specialize in sandwiches. And they take them seriously. I’ve heard before the remodel they had a sandwich tournament where they pitted different sammies against each other… and the winners are what made their post-remodel menu. The sanwiches are resonably priced, $ 5 for a half, $ 10 for a whole. They range from italian style… one with smashed billy goat chips on it, to a Bahn Mi, to an Elvis special with peanut butter and smoked bacon. I tried a couple of different ones but I highly enjoyed their Club. It reminded me of the Legend Club served at LeGrands… and it should, the owner said he asked to borrow their receipe after hearing so many people state they loved that sandwich. It was well put together, on fresh bread, with the proper amount of ingredients. So, sandwich shop meets upscale bar with games… this place is right up my alley. I see myself returning OFTEN… Until the rest of you find out about it and screw it up.

The Gramophone is a great spot to grab a bite to eat and listen to live music in the Grove. They have regularly scheduled events most nights of the week, including trivia and open mic to show off some local talent. The wraps and sandwiches are all solid and they don’t short you on the toppings — my personal favorite is «The Beef» which is stacked with, as you’d assume, mouthwatering roast beef, peppers, and a pickle, and it includes au jus. Definitely my recommendation. «The Club» is another solid standby. I haven’t had their pizza but I’ve heard good things. The bottle shop includes quite a few good beers on tap and a wide selection of bottled drinks at a reasonable price. If all you’re looking for is some good food and a drink it may be best to check the events for the evening as the place can get crowded quickly with people planning on listening/participating in the night’s festivities. The location has corner seating for groups or people eating but they get filled quickly so finding a table that’s not front and center of the stage is difficult. But hell, maybe after a few UCs or Schlaflys you’ll feel like getting on stage yourself and belting out a few tunes to the friendly regulars.
