Sole and Blues

This is by far the best clothing store in St. Louis. They have a great selection for men and women. If you like nice jeans this is the place for you, they have brands like G-​Star and J Brand which you won’t find anywhere else in St. Louis. I like the shoe selection they have for men as well. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the clothes and sizes that will look good on you.

To make it clear, I really liked the merchandise, especially that they carry cute and comfy shoes like Camper and Fly London. So, the 2 stars are for costumer service.
A review from 2008 praises the non-​intrusive service. Well, it doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Last Saturday my friend and I went in after seeing they had a good variety of shoes. We were greeted by a blonde employee with short hair that told us about the discounts available at the moment, while she was fixing some merchandise in the jewelry cases, all good.
Then we started with the shoes. Oh boy, we were followed by her around the store while she looked everything we picked up, each time saying something around the lines «Those are sooo cute, you should totally try them!» or «Those are sooo comfortable, you want to try them?». I’m not lying, EACH time, which after 10 pairs got quite annoying. We commented between ourselves about her being so awkwardly pushy. At some point she went back to the front when othe people came in, but she kept looking at us and commenting on our picks.
When we decided it was enough of this nonsense and leave, she told us «you should try this one, I saw when you picked it up before». Because she had been watching us closely the whole time, of course. Not nice, lady!
Anyway I don’t want to think the employee was being a jerk on purpose, maybe she didn’t realize it. Hopefully, they will get at some point and go back to their unobtrusive ways.

As a jean enthusiast, when I saw that there was a denim shop right down the street from where I often picked up coffee, I decided I would drop in to see their selection. I was greeted with a friendly face, who asked if I needed some help finding anything, and I told him that I was just looking at the jeans that they carried. They only carry three brands of denim, only two of which is looked well upon in the denim community (Naked & Famous and Nudie). The pricing wasn’t insane on the jeans, with the understandable markup that is seen normally in most shops.
Where the visit turns south is when the man was talking to me about the denim. I asked which jeans they carried were selvedge; which specifies a special kind of construction process the denim goes through, making the interior seams of the denim very distinguishable from non-​selvedge. Anyway, He told me they only had two pairs of selvedge denim. After only about 2 minutes of looking around, I could tell he was wrong. Most of the denim in the shop was selvedge. I then decided to test the guy’s knowledge of what they had in other aspects, inquiring about which jeans were raw (unwashed/​untreated denim, specifically purchased to produce custom fading patterns), which he told me there was only one pair which he knew were raw in the shop.
I continued this for several minutes while perusing their selection, finding that they carried very limited sizing which even more limited selection. The experience was really a let-​down, as I understand people who see jeans priced in the $ 200 range would think that as expensive. I would not suggest this place for someone who is looking at getting into high (er)-end denim, as the staff will be of little help to you.
I love supporting brick and mortal stores, especially ones getting into better quality denim, but this one is just not what I like to see. It would be a good spot if the staff knew what they were talking about, but I would not buy from them currently.

Nice store and a good fit for the Loop, but you would thinks shoe store would carry socks, right? Wrong. But for being a boutique shop, the shoes have a pretty average price tag. The jeans are a different story…

I’ve been into the store several times, and each time was slightly underwhelmed. The sole side has decent shoes, at decent prices; however, I have never and will never purchase jeans from their blues side because of how overpriced and low quality they seem to be. I have found several cute dresses there so all isn’t lost.

Great store, very helpful staff and by far the best selection of jeans, and really nice layout ! Will definitely be back for cowboy boots this fall! The buyer h as a great eye and love vibe of this store!

I really wish I loved this place since it has that cool boutique feel and an aesthetically pleasing window display. The location is convenient for those trying to walk off a big meal from many of the restaurants on the Loop (like me, hehe). Clothes they offer are cute and up to trend, however the prices are way way overpriced. I normally shop at Nordies for my Sam Edelman heels, and I found a pair of a discontinued model for the original retail price. Yikes. «Sole» is their shoe section of the store and «Blues» is their clothing section.
I have yet to find a good deal, but I find myself coming inside just to see if I can cop a pair of cute Steve Madden sandals they don’t have available at the store.

The window display & adorably dressed mannequin being used as a door prop caught my eye. I just had to go in and see more!
What surprised me most about this little boutique was the awesome service (yes, service in a clothing boutique) and the gamut of reasonably-​priced to expensive goods. Stylish & comfy men’s and women’s clothes were packed into this tiny space and since Spring is on the horizon, I was diggin’ all the color!
Mostly the basics can be found here, including sunglasses, men’s underwear and some outerwear.
The neighboring shoe store (Sole) can also be accessed via Blues.
I took fondly to the clearance rack where discounted items ranged from 30 to 50 percent off. Mama loves the sales!
Luckily I found an adorable cotton sundress that was half-​off.
Left happy. End of story.

Best place to get shoes and sunglasses! People who work there are very helpful.

I saw a pair of shoes here that I really liked for $ 50. They didn’t have my size, so I googled the shoes, and they are selling them for $ 22 on Amazon. Blues/​Soul apparently marks-​up (a lot!)
However, the sales people will take the last dress off the mannequin for you so you can try on and not get snippy when you don’t buy it. And whoever creates their inventory has great taste. It’s just that mark-​up issue that is a problem. Also, for the fellas, if you are on the husky side, you probably won’t find a whole lot of clothing. But maybe shoes or accessories.

I had a terrible experience here. I purchased jeans that cost me almost $ 200. When the zipper turned out to be defective, they told me they would return the pair to the manufacturer and they would ship me the new pair in about 2 weeks (I lived in Miami Beach at the time).
After a month, I was in the lou again and passed by to inquire about the jeans. The girl at the counter couldn’t find anything about it until I described to her the color of the notebook where it was written about a month earlier. Upon finding it, she mentioned that the jeans hadn’t been shipped to her yet but to check back in 2 weeks. I explained that I lived in Florida and that they were promised to be shipped to me. She took down my information again and said she’d ship them in about 3 weeks.
After another month, I was again in town and decided to just get my money refunded. I showed my receipt and explained the situation but was told that I would only get store credit despite their laziness, horrible customer service, and defective product. After the clerk spoke to the owner over the phone, I was again told I could only receive store credit. I took it.
I will never shop there again and I’m disgusted that a local shop owner would treat customers in such a negative way.

Unless I find something greatly on sale, I’m probably not going to buy anything here. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from popping in once in a while to check things out. The selection of shoes (on the Sole side) is pretty good and there have been some things (especially on sale) that I’ve considered. I think whenever this has happened, it has been on items where the wrong sizes were available.
As far as the Blues side goes, things in there don’t really catch my eye. Yeah, some of the jeans are okay, but the selection isn’t really that great.

Since there is a separate review page for Soul the shoe store, this one is strictly for Blues. But it’s a good thing this place has a shoe store connected to it, otherwise the lack of variety in merchandise and pricing might not keep it afloat. With a very expensive selection of blue jeans (hence the name), and a limited choice of tops to go with them, I’d venture to say that even if I did have some dough to blow on $ 250 denim, I’d probably go elsewhere for more variety. The store itself is warmly decorated with fabulous hardwood floors, is well-​organized, and has great service, but even the sale rack prices hurt to look at.

Blues/​Sole has a really unique assortment of clothing and shoes. It fits in well with the hipster-​ness of the Delmar Loop.
Even though I have been to this place well over 10 times, I still have yet to find something I want to get. Let me correct that: I still have yet to find something I want to get and pay what they want for it. There we go.
They have some really trendy clothes (especially pants, t-​shirt, and button-​downs) and shoes (I thought Converse was über-​trendy, boy was I only scratching the surface!). There were probably 3 different pairs of jeans I really liked, I just didn’t want to pay out the butt for cool pants I’ll only wear a handful of times.
The staff is really friendly and helpful, so finding what you need is never a problem.

If you want the best and want to be taken care of in thanks for possibly parting with your hard earned cash, then this is your place. Blues /​Sole is a hip person’s dream come true. The Sole side always has an outstanding selection of shoes and handbags that gets my blood pumping. The prices are pretty reasonable considering the craftsmanship. Now, on the Blues side the prices sort of skyrocket — yet they are very cool clothes that are hard to find. I know it’s strange, but I must say that I love the old flooring! It is just too cool and it makes me happy to walk on it.

I would walk past this place for years because I was sure it was too expensive and filled with wonderful things I’d be depressed I couldn’t afford.
Not so. Though the stuff isn’t super cheap, it is affordable and there is a pretty big clearance area in back. The stuff is true Euro style. Awesome shoes, including flats that the girls all wear in Paris and London. Great purses, really well designed. There’s a men’s section on one side and a women’s section on the other. Very cool place.

Blues is a great place to shop for jeans, and it’s conveniently located in the U. City Loop. This was the place where I bought my first pair of Serfontaine jeans, and so far, has really been the only place that actually carries them regularly. Needless to say, I’ve become obsessed with this brand of jeans, and will definitely be making a pit stop at Blues on my next trip to St. Louis.
As for Sole — it’s one of the few places around that carry Rainbow flip-​flops, which are my flip-​flops of choice. So if I’m ever anxious to get a new pair right away (rather than wait for them to come in the mail), this is the place I’d go. Also, my brother bought a pair of Ed Hardy flip-​flops here before Ed Hardy became all the rage — so Sole is definitely on top of the trends-​in-​the-​making.
I also like how the names of the stores reflect different genres of music. And the salespeople are very friendly and helpful, without being overbearing and pushy, which is always a plus!

Good selection of higher-​end brand jeans and shoes (and other things) and a really helpful but non-​intrusive sales staff. I hate being followed around a store without asking for it first. When it comes to buying jeans, though, I’m high-​maintenance. Blues takes care of me.

This is one of the few places I will shop at in St. Louis. It has a small store front that has some of my favorite stuff. Diesel, Seven, Buffalo, True Religion. The jeans are cool, and are not the ones that everyone gets at the mall. They also have an assortment of T’s and button ups that are worth checking out.
If shoes are your passion, for me more of a weakness, then Sole, next door is the place to be. They carry a lot of European lines, and shoes, boots, and flips that no one does.
Its a great place for men and women, if you want to spend your money on something original come here.

I bought a really great LOVIE leather bag/​bookpack made in France here a few years ago. They have another location in Chicago which sells similar items but the St Louis store has more fun accessories and purses. Great place to find something unique from the rest of the crowd.
