Sen Thai-Asian Bistro

I have many favorite things.
Being in the hot tub at night.
Bearded men.
Icelandic music.
Thai food.
Not in that particular order.
This review is simple. I was working in St.Louis. I was giving a presentation at the Central Library (a must see… stunning architecture).
I wanted a Thai fix.
Everyone said this place was the best.
Unilocal said it was good.
People and Unilocal were right.
I got my fix… of Thai food, not bearded men.
I had, fresh rolls, Thom Kha Gai soup, noodle salad. It was all done right. I was happy.

This is the wife’s favorite Thai place in Stl, to me, it’ll do. While it is really delicious the service kind of kills it for me.

Ate here last weekend on a late Friday night. Service was really good. Some of the best Pad Thai I have ever eaten. Would recommend based on my first visit.

This is the first restaurant I walked to when I moved downtown. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. When we sat down it looked extremely slow but don’t let that fool you folks the food is great. We started with lychee martinis which I highly recommend. In fact I think they went down a little to easy if you know what I mean. For our app we went with a classic fried calamari. It was some of the best cooked calamari I have had. It was soft not the usual rubber-​band rings you get at the chain restaurants. My husband ordered something with ginger and beef like usual and he enjoyed it so much he wouldn’t even share… Whatever! I ordered the Pad Thai which was incredibly delightful in fact I even took some home for leftovers and let me tell you I hate leftovers. So the moral of this story is eat here if you like Thai food!

I was craving a ton of flavor so I opted for the drunken noodles as my carry out option. After reading the reviews for the dish I was expecting great things. The only accurate drunken noodle review is the person that mentioned the dish is nothing more than a fancy lo mein. I’ve tried drunken noodles from the east to west coast and the noodles were consistently flat and wide. The noodles used here are lo mein type noodles. Weird.
The flavor was there, not much heat though (and I’m a pansy when it comes to spicey food). The dish was more dry than drunken which was disappointing.
Overall, not the worst Thai food but I’d be reluctant to go there again based upon deliciousness and $$.

I love this place I only wish it was closer to me, I always get the same thing drunken noodles and it is excellent, the spring rolls are equally as good, decent wine selection at decent prices. They are always friendly and service is fast even when they are busy will return next week

Sen Thai is a GORGEOUS restaurant located downtown. I love the rich colors, beautiful artwork, and metallic gold details throughout the décor of the restaurant. Right down to the golden bamboo utensils, this restaurant does a great job of presenting the perfect ambiance for diners. The food is also delicious! I had the yellow curry shrimp and absolutely loved it! I’m not a fan of curry because it’s too spicy for me, but the yellow is very mild and had excellent flavor. Everyone loved their food except they offered my friend a scoop of mango ice cream for her birthday dessert and she said it had no flavor at all, and had way too many nuts on it.
So why not a ⁵⁄₅? In short, the service. I came here this past Saturday night for a friend’s birthday dinner. She made reservations for 20 people. Only 10 people showed up. Before we could even give our food orders, the wait staff put «us» on hold to separate the other tables that we weren’t using. Now, mind you, no one was ever seated at those 2 or 3 tables while we were there. No one! So clearly, they weren’t busy enough to put our orders on hold to justify separating our tables. Also note, that she made the reservation for 5 pm and it was 6 pm when we gave our food orders. So, this wasn’t «prime time» downtown dinner time (say 7 — 9 pm). Our waitress also seemed more interested in getting us to order more drinks than catering to our needs. I was given someone else’s order instead of my own. I will say that the saving grace of the service that night was the fact that gratuity was not added to our bill, which we were informed by the waitress is customary for parties of 8 or more.
This was my first time coming here and I plan to return for the atmosphere and great food. Also beware of the large crowd of homeless people that congregate around this restaurant. They line up for the shelter which is near. This shouldn’t deter you from coming here though.

Love Sen Thai for downtown lunch. Great curry dishes, and I’m a big fan of their drunken noodles. Prompt service and reasonable prices.

Came here one night and really loved it. Their calamari is one of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely a good spot to try

Had lunch here for the first time, really tasty got the drunken noodles with beef, was hoping for w little more spice, got the Thai spring rolls too they were really nice. We had a large party and there was some confusing when our food came out but that was about it. Over all a really nice place great Thai, great prices.

Very friendly and prompt service. I had the Teriyaki Chicken, as I always do when my friends suggest this place. I’ve tried other dishes from here, but the Teriyaki Chicken is the only thing I like so far and it’s pretty tasty.

Pro: Good Thai food in downtown StL. Located just a block south of the heart of Washington Ave nightlife, Sen Thai serves well in getting your tummy full before a night of partying. My personal favorites are the Spicy Calamari (amazing!), Pad Kapao, and Singapore Noodles. Also, if you make it known that you want your food EXTREMELY SPICY, they can oblige. Proceed at your own risk! I did so once and was surprisingly humbled by their heat game! Well done!
Con: Though Sen Thai has a good location with its proximity to Wash Ave, there are a bit of homeless folks that congregate at a nearby chapel and library. It’s not the business’ fault, but still worthy of mention. Moreover, the food, while delicious, is a bit pricey. Your wallet will know that you’re dining downtown.
Bottom Line: Awesome spicy food, though the price is higher than most.

Is it strange to anybody else that their Drunken Noodles is nothing more than Lo Mein??? I’ve been to plenty of thai places before, and everywhere but here uses the fat rice noodles. I honestly thought they gave me the wrong dish until I came on here and saw pictures of other «drunken noodle» dishes people got.
Drunken Noodles or Pad See Eew has never, ever, failed me before until today. I could tell the chicken was probably frozen at some point — because I buy the same frozen chicken breast from Costco too. If it was lo mein, I would have been just fine, but boy, they are doing it wrong in Saint Louis…
I will say that the restaurant is located in an awesome building. It used to be a Shell gas building, hence you see the «shells» engraved in the glass and masonry.

I had to edit this after reading through some of the other reviews after posting my own. Am I in bizzaro world or something? People are saying that the Drunken Noodles are the best they’ve ever had?

I used to live down the street and go here weekly, it is a treat. My favorite starter is the Tom Yum soup and favorite entrée is the Drunken Noodles. I have yet to find drunken noodles that compare. Hands down the best Thai in St. Louis.

I love Thai food, and I was not disappointed coming here. Service was very friendly and my drunken noodles were so good. I had medium spice and it was addicting and had good proportions of each ingredient.
We got the Thai iced coffee which was good but honestly could have been better. My boyfriend got pad Thai which seemed overlooked, so my review would be specifically for my dish which I wish I could have again!

First off, the best crab rangoon I have ever had is not in San Francisco Chinatown but here. Small, bite-​sized portions perfect for a family or small group to enjoy. Following this was the Drunken noodles which were spicy and almost took away from the flavor of the shrimp that was in the dish. I didn’t finish as it is a healthy-​sized portion. Also, I liked that the dish wasn’t as salty in flavor in comparison to similar entrees at like restaurants.
Not a fan of the location just because it is on the back corner of a building off of downtown Washington Ave. and you have to go inside the building to access the restaurant. The staff was slightly stand-​offish as well. Traditional Asian bistro feel. Would go back.

Great calamari and drunken noodle. We started off with the Siam platter. Great service and friendly people.

So I went here with my wife once previously and she LOVED the place then, but I got the BBQ Pork and Shrimp Wanton Bowl and while the quality was high, I just didn’t think Thai food was my thing.
Fast forward to us going back and trying something new. The Seafood Pad Thai is without question one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Combine this with the Satay chicken appetizer with peanut sauce and just wow. My wife got a curry based seafood dish and loved it so much she took what little she had left home for the next day (larger portions are served here — be advised you may need a box). This place was so great I was thinking about it the next day. The Thai flavored ice drinks they serve there are also wonderful. Amazing place.

Friendly service, but I was not impressed with the food at all. I got the drunken noodles with seafood ($ 14) and asked for the spiciest they had. The waitress warned me it was pretty spicy, but I went ahead with it. It wasn’t that spicy. :\ I could detect that there was some heat in my food, but I would have classified it more as a medium level…
The noodles were also kind of spaghetti-​like, which caught me off-​guard. Still tasted good though.

Sen is just awesome. They hit a perfect pricepoint for a nice sit down lunch downtown. The drunken noodles are my fave, and the $ 3 spring rolls to start it out and share with another person is a good first taste of the menu.
I’ve had their Pad Thai, which is also very well prepared, and the yellow curry. It was my first curry experience where I ordered the dish myself. I’ve tasted others but wasn’t sure whether I liked it enough to order. Sen made me change my mind, their curry dishes are outstanding, and like nothing else in downtown St Louis.
