Friendly place with reasonable prices and excellent donated merchandise. Sometimes the pieces on the racks are outdated, but they are always in good, barely-​worn shape.
The remodeled interior adds a boutique appeal, and it’s helpful that there are more dressing rooms, but I agree with other reviewers: there is less in stock/​on display now.

Well, I’m going to have to depart from the consensus of Unilocalers who love the new layout of the ScholarShop. I agree that it’s light and airy, but the selection is only about a quarter as abundant as it used to be. The ScholarShop has always been very selective about what they put on the floor for sale, but even though the previous incarnation of the Shop was packed full of items, it never seemed particularly dark or overcrowded to me, it was always clean, and I always found at least one purchase when ever I visited. Now, there is an abundance of aisle space but not such an abundance of merchandise. Instead of twenty or thirty pairs of shoes to choose from in my size, there are only about a half dozen, and instead of racks upon racks of clothing, there are only about as many as your average boutique.
Granted, the layout is attractive and streamlined, but I have a feeling I’ll find fewer treasures in the new Shop because there are fewer treasures to find. This weekend marks the first time I’ve ever been to the ScholarShop without purchasing a single item. It seems a little wasteful to have this high-​end retail space, right in one of Clayton’s best shopping districts (Galleria is across the street), and not make the very most of it.
We’ll see, as time goes on, how this new store works out, but I’m a bit disappointed in the selection. It’s a little like Femme now — beautiful layout, quality selection, but not much in my size or demographic. I have a feeling I’m not the only one who really will miss the ScholarShop of yore,

Scholarship is a non profit upscale resale charity store located across from the Galleria mall. Recently remodeled to resemble a light spacious boutique with modern minimalist racks replacing the crammed together loaded racks of the past. Large edited selection of women’s dressy designer to casual bridge clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and accessories. Small men’s area. Now carrying wedding dresses and party attire for men and women. Less floor merchandise than the previous layout and an uptick in prices since the remodel. Brands include Chicos, Lauren, Pulitzer, St John, Burberry, Banana Republic, Polo, Coach, Fossil, Nautica, Vera Bradley etc. Prices vary from affordable casual to expensive. Used ladies Burberry raincoat $ 120. Chico jacket $ 28. New Linen blouse $ 60. Casual yoga pants $ 7. Upscale donors provide the merchandise to fund scholarships. Staff knows their fashion labels so you won’t find a Chanel suit for $ 20. Prices are comparable to an upscale consignment store. New items priced at department store sale prices. Designer shoes and purses in locked display cases. Other shoes on racks and purses on displays. Stock arrangement somewhat confusing with some labels in groupings and other types of clothes displayed in a different order than before that takes more time to search the store. No coats available even tho it is barely Spring. Friendly staff. Sales posted on Facebook site calendar. Limited lot parking due to busy location. Credit cards. Rewards program.

An outstanding collection! Very spacious and my first impression was that it might be a bit too suburban, but I was pleasantly surprised to find many edgy and funky pieces for great prices! A great experience! Wonderful service and ambience too!

This week was the first time I’ve been at a Scholar Shop. I kept on telling myself I’d go thrift shopping soonish. I finally managed to and I’m so glad I did.
The space is oddly organized, but that makes it really fun to wander through.
Most of their selection is clothing for women, but they have some shoes, some men’s clothing, some jewelry, and other miscellany.
I got 3 dresses, a cardigan-​like top, and a pin here for 83 bucks. At other stores, the dresses alone would be over a hundred if not more!
The staff is really awesome, helpful, and polite. I walked in looking confused and a staff member helped me get oriented. I was waiting for checkout, and a staff member walked behind the counter and helped me without me even needing to wait much.
I think i’ll stop by here from now on instead of going to the mall.

From dated and drab to fresh and fab, the ScholarShop in Clayton has undergone a much needed interior makeover! The store temporarily closed last December and reopened January 23 to reveal its updated, modern look – and so much has changed!
The store, once dark and cluttered, now has an open layout. Light colors and an exposed ceiling create an airy atmosphere you’ll love.
Merchandise is displayed with thought and creativity. You might be in a resale shop, but you’ll feel as if you are shopping in a boutique. Take, for instance, the shoe selection. Shoes are organized by size, and each pair is positioned on the rack in a come-​hither manner. Some shoes are even paired with matching clutches or accessories. Clever.
More dressing rooms are available. The store now has nine fitting rooms, and you are permitted to try on twelve items per fitting room visit. That’s a 100% increase over the previous six-​item limit!
If you’re accustomed to women always being right, that is no longer the case. ;) When you enter the store, you’ll find women’s clothing has been relocated to the left side. Designer clothing will be straight ahead. Jewelry and accessories are toward the middle. Shoes and men’s clothing are now on the right.
One thing that has NOT changed is the purpose behind the shop. ScholarShop is operated by The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, a nonprofit organization. According to their website, revenue from their stores and charitable donations to The Foundation are combined to fund interest-​free and fee-​free loans for students. At ScholarShop, you can feel good about treating yourself because your purchase helps students pay for their education.
So, why am I giving them only four stars?
Everything about the relaunch – the lighter colors, the exposed ceiling, the open floor plan – makes the store feel more spacious. Yet, it seemed to me their selection had diminished. I spent about half as much time here as I normally do, despite being even more in love with the place than usual!
Another ding against them was that prices seemed higher. No, not higher than Goodwill. Prices here have always been higher than Goodwill because merchandise quality is generally better than what you will find at Goodwill. No, no, no. Prices seemed higher than they were last year. For example, I bought an H&M dress for $ 10 that probably was originally $ 10 at H&M. I felt kind of like a sucker for buying it, but it was cute. Also, if you go back a couple of paragraphs, I can feel good about treating myself because my purchase helps students pay for their education. :)

I tagged along with my in laws on Black Friday. I feel like the prices were a little too much but, their proceeds are for an amazing cause. Education! They have a rewards program which was cool. I believe you’re rewarded with a $ 10 coupon for every 100 points earned. Depending on how often you shop here, you can easily rack up 100 points with no problem. The store was clean, very well organized and, the employees were friendly and helpful.

I love that I always walk out with cheap, like-​new designer clothes, and the $ I spend goes to charity!

One person’s trash is another’s treasure.
This may be ancient history but I actually got my high school prom dress from the Scholar Shop. I’ve always found little hidden gems at this location over the years. Everything from designer silk scarfs to dress shirts and handbags. I also recognize that they offer a nice selection of men’s suits and ties.
The store is well organized and staff is pleasant. Give it a whirl.

I love donating to and shopping at this place! To donate, you fill a form once that gets you in their system. From that point on, they keep track of what you donate and they send you tax forms at the end of the year — they make it so easy!
You find really great brands and good quality clothing here, so it’s a bit more pricey than Goodwill. But if you need a fancy dress for a special event or something nice to wear for an interview, you could definitely find something here. But for day to day clothes, I like to wait for their big sales!

Went to 75% off sale today. Nothing but junk. Their $ 1.00 per item sale at the warehouse on Woodson Rd had better quality stuff. They emptied out shelves & racks, leaving stuff that even Goodwill would not want. Very Disappointed…

Good value for money at this shop. You don’t have to sift through a lot of junk to find the good quality stuff. They do a nice job separating the wheat from the chaff and everything is clean. I thought the prices seem fair, though not at Goodwill levels, which is understandable.

Amazing deals!!! Great selection that changes every time you are there. The staff was friendly.
Sadly though, I bought a pair of pants for my son (who was not with me when I was shopping). The tag had the size marked incorrectly and they were not even close to fitting him. I returned within days with the original tags still attached and showing they had obviously never been worn at our home. The staff was kind and seemed to want to return them for me (as they obviously could put them back on the rack and resell them). The policy is no returns, but I thought the situation could be considered since the error was theirs.
The manager (middle age African American woman) took forever to come to the check out counter to address my situation and she gruffly stated the no return policy. She seemed in a bad mood and did not want to listen to my specific situation. I asked for a moment of her time to kindly inform her about what happened and she cut me off repeatedly. I asked for store credit that I would use that day and showed her the pants could be immediately put back on the rack for sale (with a corrected size). She did not care, was actually pretty rude, and walked away.
I understand the no return policy. I appreciate that the money goes to charity. I was going to buy more than the return amount that day. But, I sadly walked out of the store with a sour taste in my mouth. This manager desperately needs some customer service training. Even if the return was not made, it could have been a much better experience.
I will likely return simply because the funds do go to charity and the rest of the staff was professional and courteous. But, I will avoid this manager.
Be very CAREFUL about buying anything here. You want to make sure it fits before you leave the store. Check all clothing over very well for snags, stains, rips, etc. If you buy something, you will NOT be able to return it for any reason.

I have been meaning to get over here for years! I finally was able to last week, and I was kinda disappointed. I guess I was expecting «more». It wasn’t bad, don’t think that. It was nice and clean. I was just expecting more organization from a store that sells designer stuff. They have a corner for name brand stuff, but most of it is your regular stuff. Which again is totally fine. I just wan’t expecting that from their advertising. I don’t know that I’ll be back any time soon.

I went to ScholarShop to check it out after reading some of the reviews. It has a small men’s section with jackets, shirts and pants. For the most part, the merchandise was good quality name brand labels, but to me, it just looked like a high end version of a Goodwill store with less crap that you would find at a Goodwill store.
Some prices are reasonable; some are expensive.
However, I did not find anything that I wanted.

This is a great concept and a great store! I wouldn’t think of it as a thrift shop, however, because the prices are higher than a regular thrift shop. They call it «upscale resale» for a reason! For example, women’s shirts range from $ 5-​$ 15 (name brand items are marked up) compared to $ 5 or less at a Goodwill.
With the price difference in mind, however, there’s a ton of high quality clothing! The items they have here are very gently used and there are a lot more higher end items than at a regular thrift store. If you’re looking for suits or other professional clothing, this is the place to get quality clothes without breaking the bank. The majority of items they have is for women (they have plus sizes, too); there is also a decent sized section for men and a small selection of children’s clothing. I would come here for clothes only, though. I didn’t notice much other than clothes besides some displays with stacks of plates and other odds and ends.
The interior of the store is channeling a trendy boutique type of vibe, not the we’re-just-going-to-throw-a-whole-bunch-of-clothes-on-a-whole-bunch-of-racks-in-a-warehouse-with-glaring-lights type of vibe. It makes the shopping experience much more enjoyable and it makes you almost forget that you’re at a thrift shop, excuse me, I mean, upscale resale shop.
So go check it out if you’re looking for some nice clothes that don’t come with as steep a price tag as they usually do. It goes toward a good cause — providing interest free loans to students who need financial assistance to get through college!

This is one of the best clothing thrift stores I have been to in St. Louis. The store has been in this location for decades and proceeds from the store benefit collage scholarships.
The selection in the store is fantastic. A lot of name brands and a decent men’s selection with suits, blazers, shirts, belts, etc. The prices are above goodwill, though much, much better than retail. The quality of the clothes is, overall, much better.
My family has donated clothes to this shop for a long time. Donations are accepted in the back of the building and there is a parking spot available just for that. The store tallies up donations and gives you that info for tax purposes.

I always find great bargains in my size here– guaranteed.
But organizing clothes by color instead of size is only aesthetically pleasing– not practical.

I remember going by the ScholarShop a long time ago when I used to go to the St. Louis Galleria all the time when it first opened. Truth: I always thought ScholarShop was a book store!
I finally got to go to the ScholarShop recently and I loved it. Upscale clothing at super rad prices!
I even found a very cool beige corduroy jacket for $ 20.00. Oh yea!
Bottom line: A classy thrift store that provides support to area students through The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis. Very cool!

Great clothing at a great price. They have suits and tuxedos from $ 25 to $ 50 and they are high dollar suits too. The best part is all proceeds go towards college students to help them financially. So shop here for great clothing at great prices.
