Phelan’s Pub & Grill

This would have been a decent bar if it would have been staffed well during Mardis Gras one year. I approached the bartender asking for a beer and she simply screamed out draft or bottle. Geez, I wanted decent service, not to be screamed at. Thank goodness this place closed down, I would have imagined how this place was serviced during a normal business climate.

Unilocal wins again. It’s St. Patricks day and after leaving the Royale, we need a spot to meet my sister and play some darts that isn’t too far from downtown. My Unilocal app immediately pulls up Phelan’s in Soulard, which seemed like the perfect way to top off a St. Patty’s celebration.
And it was, kinda. On the plus side, the bartenders were quick and friendly, beer was cheap, the darts were ready to go, it was pretty clean, and the toasted ravs were pretty decent. But mixed drinks and shots cost an arm and a leg and the bartender gave us some BS about how they had to charge more that day for some reason.
Overall, this place was a good choice. I definitely wouldn’t rule out going back for more beer and darts.

Great Chicken Fried Steak lunch special on Wednesdays. Absolutely delicious. I’d put the burger up there among the best in Soulard too.
At night, despite frequenting the place for almost 5 years, the bartenders always recommend the bottled beer over the draft because the draft beer is warm. So fix it already!
Great Internet jukebox and darts. Makes for a fun evening out.

I came upon Phelan’s Pub and Grill while on a quest to find new bars, as I had found myself going to the same ones over and over again. I needed something to get me out of a rut and while driving through the city looking for the diamond in the ruff that would stand out I saw Phelan’s.
Phelan’s Pub and Grill is a great place to get a drink. The place is enjoyable and so are the people there. Everyone is friendly and you never have to wait long for a drink. Everything about Phelan’s is spot on. The look, the feel, the service, and the fun that I had there makes this place one that I will come back to on many occasions.

Early I did a review of Soulard’s Restaurant and Bar. Phelan’s Pub is owned by the same people as Soulard’s Restaurant and Bar but is definitely more casual, more of a straight bar feel. Unlike some of the other places in Soulard, Phelan’s hasn’t tried to go too trendy and still feels and looks like a beer joint, which is fine with me. Phelan’s is a great place to just relax, have a couple of drinks, meet with friends, waste time before, during or after a Cardinal game, or just stop by an after dinner drink. The service is pretty spot-​on and the bartenders are really friendly.
