History

Established in 1978.

For over 35 years, the Pernoud Eye Institute has been committed to providing cutting-edge and compassionate care to the St. Louis area. Originally founded in 1978 by Drs. Joan and Flavius Pernoud, the practice has been at its current location since 1990. In 2012, Dr. Jonathan Schell joined the practice and brought with him sub-specialized training in cornea and refractive surgery; thus allowing for newer treatments and techniques including serum tears, fast recovery corneal transplants, and customized wavefront guided laser vision correction. In 2014, upon the retirement of Dr. M Ishaq Chishti, the practice was pleased to partner with Retina Associates of St. Louis to provide in-office medical retina care and to expand our surgical retina services. In addition to treating diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration with the latest technology, our surgeons provide options to patients with structural diseases of the retina including retinal detachments.
