Miniature Museum of Greater St Louis

I have been delighted with the trips I have made to the museum, and they treated my three granddaughters as special people. For the person who said the didn’t open for you, one time I went and it said Open but wasn’t, I knocked and waited anyway. Guess they should have a doorbell! Someone came and opened it and I had a wonderful time. It’s run by volunteers and they keep the doors locked for security.

Today we attempted to go on a fieldtrip to the Miniature Museum with our group of homeschoolers. The field trip was set up well in advance, and our coordinator was in contact with someone from the museum one week prior to our arranged date. When we all got there, the museum was locked up tight and nobody was there. There was no sign on the door, the website says that they are closed on Monday and Tuesday (today was Thursday), there was no phone call or email to let us know. The high temperature for today was about 20 degrees, and we had children of all ages standing outside for as long as we could stand it, waiting to see if someone showed up. Many of these families drove a great distance to get there. One little girl was so very upset, she was crying. What a huge disappointment. I sincerely hope that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I suggest calling before going, just to be sure that they are open. I don’t know how the inside of the museum is, and I probably never will.

I recently made the trip to the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis, which is located near Bevo Mill. Initially, I must admit that I was a bit creeped out. I felt like a peeping Tom looking in at all these miniature people in their little homes. The fact that everything in here is tiny is also a little unhinging. Yet, after a few moments of adjusting to the surroundings, this is actually a pretty cool place. There are so many little dioramas and miniature houses that it’s hard to believe that it all fits into the building.
What I found I really liked were the situations the little people found themselves in. They aren’t just plunked down in a chair, instead there are life scenes being ‘acted’ out. The quality of these little worlds also struck me as fantastic. I found myself wondering how the creators made all of the little details. This is very impressive, and you’ll catch my drift once you see it.
