How can you have a bar named Hair of the Dog and they don’t open till 5pm on Sunday? Stupid

Fantastic beer selection and great atmosphere! Love the new floor expansion! Probably my favorite bar in St. Louis!

Moving here from San Francisco in a couple of weeks and are visiting. Went last night and was drawn by the hip hop music playing outside. We loved the décor and fun games. It was a charitable bar crawl night so there were tons of college kids in matching sweatshirts and santa hats. Will definitely come back soon. Cant wait to play the shooting game.

Love this bar. Fun games to play ! Big, long bar to belly up at. A lot of fun. Only negative was bartender. Not friendly and in a terrible mood. Lighten up buddy. Don’t run off your customers. Why do I continue to tip rude servers? Anyway, if your the owner you might give the bartender a suppository happy injection. Bars to cool for him to be an jerk. Get some T-​shirts to buy! Whoof

Just what a local bar should be… no frills, good people and plenty of space.

4 stars for great selection of beer and fun games (darts, shuffleboard, foosball, and some others). Service is extremely hit or miss. Some bartenders get annoyed when asking about beers and act like your either dumb or not experienced. …others will bring you 4 samples without me even asking for them! Dont let a bad bartender scare you away!

Dive bar with a great beer selection. Open late, hard to complain

Bartender’s really try to find you beer that you really like. They will let you sample all sorts of beer and everyone there is super nice. Oh and they have shuffleboard and bubble hockey. So yeah it’s awesome.

What a great local bar! A friend and I are visiting St. Louis from KC, and we happened upon this local gem! It was a snowy night, but the local flavor was everywhere, the patrons were an eclectic mix, and the bar staff was incredible! We’ll definitely be back next time we are in the area!

I liked this place a lot. It was kind of a dive, but the beer selection was pretty nice. I was happy to see the Schlafly Pumpkin ale on tap, and it was almost $ 2 cheaper than at the Schlafly Tap room downtown. A long and very narrow establishment, the bar runs along the right side wall. There were pool tables and dart boards towards the back of the place. There were about 4 or 5 nice tv’s and all were tuned to the MLB channel (The Cards were playing a day game). The bartender was nice enough and seemed to know his stuff. They had some New Belgium seasonals on draft and several other local beers. I was much happier here than at the Schlafly tap room. I was hoping to get back here on my visit but was only able to make one visit. I would certainly return if in the downtown area.

We were in town for Garth Brooks. After a 7 hour car ride Mike and the folks at Hair Of The Dog made us feel at home. They have great prices and atmosphere. All of the staff was very friendly and fun. Being from a small area this is the type of place we like. I would recommend anyone stopping in while you are downtown!

I’ve been here twice. The first time had a great band that we liked to listen to. The second time the band wasn’t so great. The drink selection was normal for a bar. If the band is good we’ll come back.

Nice bartenders, good beer, great place to relax after work. The bartender made some very good drink suggestions that fit my tastes well.
Pretzel sticks and beer cheese are awesome here, btw.

Pretty good dive bar. The liquor selection is good and the beer selection is decent. My drinks always come back strong, which is nice. Everything is also pretty cheap, which makes it that much better.
It’s got some nice flair in the sense that it has games, shuffleboard, etc. It’s pretty fun with a group of people.
My only thing that makes it less than excellent is the scene. It’s pretty dead and hit or miss, even on a weekend. I feel like you have to get there pretty late to get an energetic crowd — which isn’t everyone’s thing, but I found it lacking.
I frequent it, but it definitely isn’t the first on my list for the night.

Went here on the recommendation of a friend in search of a specific brand of alcohol, turns out it wasn’t there. Just because we don’t ask for an AMERICAN made product doesn’t give you the right to be a straight up douche to «potential customers». The bartenders are snobby and rude, viewed us as «hipster» scum right off the bat. A simple NO would be okay instead of a smart assed reply and smirk. Thanks for nothing jackasses!!!
Seriously, bad staff like this are why these places are seen as shitty examples of American Bars with the scene, I’ve been to better «honky-​tonks» in Memphis and other cities where the staff treats you with a civilized attitude, instead. Clearly this is the place you stay away from unless you’re looking for egos and attitude toward their clients.
There’s plenty of nicer places around the corner off of Washington and elsewhere including Bar Louie and other venues that treat customers with decency and professionalism. If anything I hope «Hair of the Dog» finds itself out of business in the next few year or two. But likely as long as St. Louis has winning teams crap hole dives like this will be filled with machismo jackasses sharing the glory of the games. One can only hope the health inspectors and fire marshal come by and shut these places down as potential death traps. Then put in some nice civilized bar that treats it’s clients better than these clowns.

Cheap drinks, a variety of games (including my beloved shuffleboard), and an awesome jukebox.
Good place to chill out on a weekend night.

You know I love a good dive bar, well, Hair of the Dog is THE dive bar. I love that I can show up there in extremely casual yet clean clothes one night and stop by a few days later in a dress and heels and still feel at home.
As you know, dive bars are known for their cheap drink prices. Hair does not disappoint. They also have a few games inside and a nice size patio because this dive bar is NON SMOKING. Yep.
The crowd does run a little male centric but I don’t mind. Good place to relax and watch the crazy on Washington go by.

This strip if Wash Ave is filled mostly with unoriginal, expensive, crowded drinking establishments. Hair of the Dog is a unique expection.
It’s got a dive bar feel, without being too gross or weird. There’s a variety of games, and the bartender’s are fantastic. Best of all are the very reasonable drink places. And it’s nice to have a place in Wash Ave where you aren’t out of place if you aren’t in 5inch heels and a skin tight dress.

Came by during the day, might return at night if I’m feeling like living in the city keeps me too far from the comfort of hole in the wall towny bars. It’s dark even on the brightest day, but plenty of entertainment with many flat screens, games, shuffleboard, and a surprising selection of beers, better than I’ve found on wash ave (better than the nearby hoochie sh*+hole that doesn’t even serve tap beer). Nice bartender. I’ll be back!
