Gateway Metro Credit Union

I have been a long time customer and GMCU recently added an unauthorized feature to my account which cost me $ 308! They say they are not required by law to inform their customers AND now they said that if i try to use my debit card and do not have enough funds to cover it, instead of declining the transaction THEY WILL REVOKE MY DEBIT CARD and NEVER allow me to have another!!! I can’t believe they can just take money from their customers and not feel bad about it at all!

If I could do negative stars I would. We got off to a bad start when they charged us a fee for not immediately having our pay checks direct deposited there. We had to go in person to complain. Their online banking is horrific. You can’t look at your own past statements through the site. You have to access them via a hyper link they email you. (Or if you can, we couldn’t figure it out and no one explained how in multiple calls about statements.) The statements do not use decimal points! Insane! So a $ 300.00 transaction shows up as 30 000. In every other place I have ever kept money, I have been able to look at an image of my checks online. Not GMCU. Just tells me they cashed one but not to whom or anything. Payments are very slow leaving my account and arriving at the intended bill. We will be closing this account this weekend now that I have gotten everything transferred back to our old bank. I strongly discourage anyone from using this credit union.

This is the worst place ever to bank at or do business. Poor customer service, bad at loans, high rates and fees for all! Will charge a non member to cash a check from a member in person. And if you try to take a check from their members you can’t verify the funds are good and the check is good. If you have bad credit and bounce checks this might be good for you! Great for scammers! Bad for people who pay their bills and do business!

I have only been a member for a month but compared to the bank that I’ve belonged to for years, their telephone customer service is outstanding! I had a problem with being able to pick up my debit card because I work in O’Fallon but I bank in Crestwood. When I called customer service to have them mail it to me, instead they had a courier bring my debit card to the closest branch so I could pick it up on my lunch break. Pretty awesome!
Also, when I called to inquire about my account being overdrawn the customer service rep was more than willing to contact my travel agent to work out the duplicate charge so that I would not be charged with overdraft fees. Overall, the employees that I have spoken with on the phone deserve 5 stars!
The reason I am giving Gateway Metro CU (Crestwood branch) 3 stars is because the employees in the branch were unprofessional and unwilling to provide an acceptable level of customer service. I felt as a potential customer who was willing to give them business and open an account, the teller sure did not seem very interested in giving me information. I had to ask several questions to get the information I needed.
Also, while I was in the branch for the first time, there was a couple who had an appointment with an associate who never showed up. I realize it was not the teller’s fault but all she had to offer the couple was an insincere «sorry.» Overall a pretty unprofessional first impression.
The branch itself needs some updating. It’s pretty shabby and I was not impressed at all when I first walked in. Not that I was expecting a 5 star bank but I definitely expected something better. Everything looked cheap and the fact that the tellers were wearing t-​shirts just screamed unprofessional to me.
