Frankly Sausages

These fries are the best fries I have ever had in my life. Nothing compares. This place has great sausages and almost everything is locally sourced. Can’t wait for them to start moving through the city.

I was served by the Frankly Sausages food truck today at my workplace I had the chile verde pork sausage and an order of the hand cut fries with the rosemary kalamata dipping sauce.
The sausage was amazingly good and the chef said that Frankly Sausages makes absolutely everything they serve except the bread. So that would include the queso fresco and the avocado and tomatillo relish as well as the rosemary kalamata dipping sauce. All were excellent!
I must give a special shout out to the hand cut fries. They use whole potatoes and cook the fries to order — the fries are hot and crispy.

Visited once when they were parked outside six mile bridge brewery. I was told you can’t just walk up to the truck, perhaps an agreement with the brewery, but no quick stop for carryout.
The fries are the winners here. Definitely get them. The hype is real! These are my favorite fries anywhere. The texture and taste are amazing. They are thick enough to have a hearty potato flavor (not too thick like steak fries). The crispiness is amazing. I was told they even hold up if you took them home and reheat. Then they have these amazing sauces from regular ketchup to Rosemary kalamata to pesto to chipotle and others. I only had the ketchup and it had more flavor than the standard out of the bottle. The word is the chipotle is really good.
I had the beef frank ballpark style (sauerkraut and grilled onions). It was ok. The dog had good flavor. The onions were not cooked long enough so not much carmelization flavor. The bun to hot dog ratio was off. Way too much bun (see photo where the dog is barely visible).
I had the brat and it was delicious. It was bigger so the ratio to the bread was good. The bun was tasty too. The sauerkraut was good and the mustard had a little kick.
I will definitely be back for more fries and to try the other sausages.

I stopped into Six Mile Bridge for a happy hour with some friends recently and we all ended up ordering from Frankly Artisan Sausages. I went with the Mary’s Little Lamb, which is a lamb sausage served with grilled red onion, feta cheese and oregano it was so good I ordered a second! According to the owner everything is homemade, except for the buns which are from La Bonne Bouchée. The Hand cut fries are equally as delicious, almost so good that you don’t need any dipping sauce however you will want to go ahead and try one of the unique sauces available. For my sauces I went with the pesto and chipotle, both were amazingly delicious. Overall this was a delightful combination that I will surely be returning for again.
Frankly Artisan Sausages is currently serving up their delicious artisan sausages Thursday-​Saturday via a food truck outside of Six Mile Bridge, just off Dorsett & Schuetz. However after talking with the owner last night they fully intent to take the food truck mobile to some events soon, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for their truck.

Frankly my dear, I do give a damn. I give a damn good shout out for Frankly Sausages. To be frankly honest, these are some of the best sausages I have had and they’re from a food truck that is parked in the lot a craft brewery in the Heights.
I meet up with some friends (7) at Six Mile Bridge for Happy Hour and was totally blown away by this awesome food truck. They offer about six different sausages and two sizes of Hand Cut Fries with six different dipping sauces. I am a BIG fan of lamb, so when I saw one of their sandwiches was named; Mary’s Little Lamb, I knew what I was ordering.
MLL was a lamb sausage served on a bakery fresh bun from La Bonne Bouche. How classy is that? An Artisan Sausage served on a bun from a French bakery. The sausage is topped with grilled red onion, feta cheese and fresh oregano. If I were judging a competition, Mary’s Little Lamb would take home the blue ribbon.
I would have enjoyed a second MLL, as many of my friends did, but I wanted to experience more of their menu. My second sausage I went simple, I choose Bolyard’s All Beef Frank. It was served in the same French bakery bun and topped with the classic toppings of catsup, mustard and relish. I made an excellent second choice, but Mary’s Little Lamb will always have my vote.
The Hand Cut Fries are thick cut, skin on and only lightly salted. They were extremely flavorful, but for my personal taste they could of and should of been a little crisper. However, the variety of dipping sauces ranging from Pesto to Honey Mustard to Chipotle and three others made it hard to choose which one you wanted for your fries.
Even though the buns from La Bonne Bouche are freaking amazing, Frankly Sausage does take into consideration some of us do live a low-​carb lifestyle. So, if you want they will present your sausage on a bed of lettuce.
Frankly Sausages and Six Mile Bridge are only open Thursday-​Saturday, so I highly recommend you go this weekend.

Why: Happy Hour

What a great find. We loved the handmade sausages and fries. The dipping sauces, particularly the rosemary tapenade, were outstanding. The sausages were flavorful and huge; the buns very fresh and didn’t fall apart as you ate the sausage. The large order of fries was generous, almost too much for two people, but they were so good, no great, we ate every last one! Can’t wait to go back!

Okay, so let me start with full disclosure. I know Bill and Jamie, the owners of Frankly Sausages. Actually, they are a generation younger, so I initially got to know them through Jamie’s parents. However, having said that, I’ve also written 183 previous Unilocal reviews, and simply would not have given Frankly Sausages a review rather than post one that wasn’t fully truthful. I also teetotal, so I’ll have to pass on giving you a review of Six Mile Bridge’s beverage offerings. But that would really be a separate review anyway.
So this fairly simple concept of artisan sausages with fries as the only side option may sound pretty basic. However, the product is freaking awesome. This definitely is not your backyard barbecue brat with a bag of frozen fries. As far as I know, the concept of gourmet sausages with high quality fries is unique in St. Louis. Also unique is that Frankly Sausages is paired up as the «kitchen» for Six Mile Bridge microbrewery/​bar. The truck sits outside when Six Mile Bridge is open, and you order your food inside like at a typical restaurant. Right now, Six Mile Bridge & Frankly Sausages are open Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday lunch through evening. I believe they are starting a Sunday brunch next month. Frankly Sausages would be free to park its truck elsewhere on other nights. So maybe you’ll be able to try them out elsewhere, too.
I’ve been here twice, and have had the Chili Verde Pork (topped with «avocado and tomatillo relish, queso fresco, cilantro, lime»), Buttonwood Farms Chicken Sausage («arugula and pickled yellow mustard seeds»), and Mary’s Little Lamb («grilled red onion, feta cheese and oregano»). They’ve all been very fresh, high quality, and just really tasty. The meats themselves are well-​flavored — the pork is probably most like a typical bratwurst, yet different; the chicken is the mildest and comforting; and the lamb is appropriately reminiscent of gyro meat, but not an imitation. It’s apparent that a lot of thought went into the toppings. The chile verde pork toppings make it seem like chili verde as part of the flavor profile. And the lamb one is reminiscent of a gyro sandwich, but only enough to make you think about it — giving its own spin and not trying to just recreate it. All toppings are (again) very fresh, and generous — completing the full flavor profile of the sandwich as well as being visually interesting and appealing. Oh, and the bread is not a hot dog bun. It is a french bread roll of some sort, that has soft bread inside, but not such a crusty outside. The outside is a bit firmer than a hot dog bun, yet yields easily when bitten.
Now the fries… well, they’re fries, right? Wrong! I mean, yeah they are fries. But unlike any I’ve had before. My first visit, we sat with friends at the table, and one friend said he loves fries, eats a lot of different fries, and had never had fries this good before. Even after they got cold the fries were good to go. I have to agree. The fries are thick, soft inside, and just crispy enough outside. You get a good size order too (we ordered the large). Turns out the secret is that they are fresh cut, brined, then double fried. There’s more detail to it, but I’ll let you ferret out the secrets from the chef yourself. Amazing how the brining flavor is infused throughout the entire potato meat, with the inside staying soft but not mushy.
I almost forgot, the fries also come with dipping sauces. Two for the large, and one for the small. Choices are catsup (of course), chipotle, rosemary kalamata, buttermilk, honey mustard, and pesto. I’ve had all of them, and it’s hard for me to pick a favorite. All are prepared fresh (there’s that word again). I really liked the pesto. But the chipotle was good to me because it had a strong chipotle flavor without all the burn. And the buttermilk looked like ranch, but tasted like a good yet mild buttermilk. My wife’s favorite is the rosemary kalamata. It’s pretty good too (think of the dip for fries at Nordstrom café).
So there you go. I really was blown away at how such a seemingly basic concept was so well executed when it came to the flavor and presentation. I suppose freshness and a skilled chef can make quite a bit of difference. Now the place is just starting out, so you might experience some hiccups. But feel free to give them your suggestions.

My husband and I went to Six Mile Bridge for beers and were pleasantly surprised with the new Frankly Sausages addition. We had the Bolyard’s All Beef Frank and the Mary’s Little Lamb. Both were FANTASTIC! The sausages are very flavorful and the mustard is strong but not overwhelming. Plus, they have fries as a side. This seems common, but these are some of the best fries I have had. The perfect mix of soft and crispy. We had the pesto sauce and mustard sauce and both were great.
