Description

Specialties

Fitz’s is a unique family-oriented restaurant where you can watch our vintage bottling line produce traditional Fitz’s soda — while you dine. Our menu includes 15 different hamburgers, a selection of gourmet sandwiches, salads and entrees. Many priced below $ 10. And a trip to Fitz’s is not complete without having one of our fantastic floats — Fitz’s home-made soda with four scoops of creamy ice cream. Yummm! Fitz’s opens daily for lunch at 11 AM. Our kitchen closes after dinner while our upstairs full-service bar is open late. We are located in The Delmar Loop, selected as one of the 10 greatest streets in America. History

Established in 1947.

Fitz’s began as an old-fashioned drive-in located in St. Louis County in 1947. Mr. James Fitzpatrcik was the original owner/proprietor who worked with a St. Louis flavor house to create his own recipe for Root Beer which was served in frosty mugs out of a big wooden barrel. During the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s, Fitz’s was a popular hang out for St. Louis high schoolers. But in the mid-1970’s Mr. Fitzspatrick retired and the drive-in closed. No more Fitz’s root beer and no more restaurant. Then in the early 1990’s Fitz’s was reincarnated on Delmar Blvd. in University City in a building orginally built as a bank in 1928. The latest incarnation of Fitz’s includes an expanded menu and a unique vintage bottling line where customers can actually watch Fitz’s soda being bottled. The bottling line, found in Wisconsin and completely refurbished., has pieces of equipment built in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Today Fitz’s is a fun and active return to the nostalgia of earlier times.
