Clothes Mentor

A seasoned shopper at Clothes Mentor. First time at this location but very comparable to others. The clothing racks were nearly arranged. Since it was a Monday night and nit surprised how cleaned it was. Not sure what it would look like on a Saturday.
The only issue I had was there was no designate petite’s sections for both tops and bottoms. I have been to four other Clothes Mentor and they all had a petite’s rack.

I love Plato’s Closet, and I’ve found some really cute stuff there. However, as a thirtysomething, most of their clothing really isn’t meant for me. It’s meant for the teenagers I should have had by now.
Enter Clothes Mentor. I don’t really understand the name. It’s like a bad translation from another language of something like «style guide» or «fashion expert.»
But whatever. I love this place. It’s a store for women who are my age. The clothes they sell are in good condition, and they are organized by type, size, and color.
Brands I’ve seen in the store have included BCBG, Juicy Couture, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein. Of course, I’ve also seen plenty of Old Navy and Mossimo.
In addition to clothing, you’ll also see shoes, accessories, and bags, bags, and more bags. Seriously, they have a ton of bags here.
I’ve never had a problem with customer service at Clothes Mentor. The cashiers have always been friendly, and when I’ve needed a fitting room, someone has gladly unlocked one for me.
I really don’t understand the low ratings this store currently has. It’s a clean, well-​organized place selling gently used women’s clothing and accessories. I can’t ask for much else. I’m tempted to give them five stars just to help boost their rating, but I can’t because I do have one issue here. I find some of their prices to be high.
Although you shouldn’t find any juniors’ clothing at Clothes Mentor, there is a bit of overlap between the kinds of things you’ll find here and at Plato’s Closet next door. In my experience, things are just more expensive at CM. I’m not talking about the Calvin Klein dress at CM versus the Xhilaration dress at PC. No, I’m talking about something like the sweater I bought today. It was $ 14.25 at CM, while comparable sweaters at PC were closer to $ 10.
So, just keep the price in mind when you shop here. Apart from the $ 2 clearance rack I saw in the back today, you probably won’t score any Goodwill-​cheap deals at CM. However, you will find good-​as-​new clothing at better-​than-​new-​clothing prices.

Good clearance section. one of the girls who worked there named Tiera (might be spelling it wrong) checked us out… She wasn’t nice at all. She told us the total was 14.40 $ then my mom said «so how much clearance was taken off each of the the 3 items» (cuz they were all 70% off) and Tiera said «14.40 $…that’s what I just told you» and she must have been confused because my mom ask how much was taken off each separate item… Not to repeat the total of our purchase. She didn’t act happy to be there and was a bad representation of this company. Il avoid her next time I’m in there.

This is Platos Closet older sophisticated slightly stuck up big sister. I originally went to Platos Closet which is right next door, to sell some clothing. They didn’t end up purchasing anything. I still managed to spend about $ 30 even though my items were rejected. Funny how that happens. The girl at Platos Closet recommended I take my items to Clothes Mentor. I walked in and was greeted by a young lady and told her I wished to sell some items. She went to get someone who I assume is the manager. I’m guessing she is the only one qualified to inspect items. She came out and immediately told me that I was lucky that I came in when I did because it’s getting close to cut off time. Needless to say I was Immediately taken aback. She then proceeded to tell me that they don’t take teen items. I felt like she was giving me a warning not to waste her time. She offered to hold my bag while I looked around. It contained the items that I had just purchased from Platos. I didn’t feel like she was being helpful I think she was more concerned with theft.
I did end up finding two pair of shorts. One was an Old Navy pair. I was shocked because most of their items are higher end retailers. Despite walking around with items of clothing in my hand I was never asked if I neeeded assistance or wanted to try the items on. I did end up purchasing the shorts. Upon check out she informed me that they would not be purchasing my items because they were more of the teen variety.
Overall this is a good store. They have tons of cute clothes. Probably too business professional for me to shop here exclusively though. They carry brands like Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, J Crew etc. They also have designer hand bags and accessories.
If I’m at Platos Closet I would perhaps stop in. Not worth making a special trip though. That is based purely on the poor customer service.
I’ve had much better service at Platos Closet which is weird considering they are affiliated. I guess in this instance the little sister can teach the big sister a thing or two.

I stopped by Clothes Mentor because a good friend told me they had nice name brand items. She was correct. However, my presence was not acknowledged while I was there. A sales clerk walked past me 3 times, glaring at me and never asked if I needed help. I saw several items that I would have purchased but decided I would spend my money elsewhere.

I pretty much shop exclusively at thrift stores now. I can’t even imagine paying more than $ 6 for a shirt or $ 12 for jeans!
In the past, I was actually a big fan of Plato’s Closet and ended up visiting a Clothes Mentor in Springfield, MO. It was clearly geared towards women of my fiscal mentality (see also: cheap) but didn’t feel like I was in the junior section of Macy’s. Don’t get me wrong, I still shop there, too, but now that Clothes Mentor opened up in St. Louis, it’s my go-​to!
Be prepared to sift through A LOT of junk, though. They’re all great clothes, but not always your own style. Make sure you set aside some time. The guidelines for selling clothes is pretty rigid, so you know you’re getting the latest styles and good quality merchandise. I’ve got a ton of Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Limited, Express, and J Crew clothing that I never would’ve purchased at full price. They even have a maternity section!
This is definitely my favorite stop when I’m shopping for new (to me) clothing.
