Excellent sushi. Very fresh. The specialty rolls were amazing(especially the Central West End roll and the Alaskan roll). Only negative was that we ordered a total of 5 rolls and they all came out at different times(which is ok if you are sharing, but in our case we had one person waiting for food while the rest were eating).

Underwhelming. They announced they had fresh salmon. I’m wondering, isn’t it all supposed to be fresh? Fish was mushy, left me feeling a little illl. Thank goodness for the cookie place across the street to make me forget bad sushi

Went here on lunch break at work. I was very impressed with the lunch specials. Usually it isn’t hard to rack up quite a bill when you eat sushi, even for one person, but their specials allowed a good experience and gave enough food to be filling. I went with a deal that included one roll, 4 sashimi/nigiri, soup, and salad. Now, you won’t have access to the specialty rolls, but there was a decent enough blend for me to get my sushi«go-to» spicy yellow tail and try out the different offerings of nigiri. The salad wasn’t great, but that wasn’t the draw here either. All in all I was very pleased with the offerings. I’d still recommend the yellow tail but I was also impressed by the unagi eel. Very tasty. Good place, if you like sushi give them a go.

Well, well, well. Good sushi does exist in St. Louis. I wanted to try a new place other than Kampai right around the corner and I’m glad I did. Quaint place in CWE. No frills, just simple and delicious. Prompt service. The cute waiter was professional and personable. Sushi definitely hit the spot. The tako yakitori appetizer was flavorful, though I wish there was more octopus. My new favorite roll was the sashimi roll. Just sashimi, cucumber, avocado and ponzu sauce… So good and without the carbs(perfect for prepping for beach season and for iifym). Recommended? Hell to the yeah!

I’ve actually never been here when it wasn’t happy hour, and I really don’t know why because I live so close by. We’ve had rolls here, while good, i still recommend the items below. Why? Because you can’t(nor would you want to) get it anywhere else in St. Louis. I think this is where Chi Sushi really distinguishes itself from other places nearby: Large variety of freshly prepared appetizers: Yellowtail jalepeno and salmon tataki are both WELL prepared and DELICIOUS. They also make a great takoyaki, which is fried dough with chunks of octopus inside, dressed with takoyaki sauce(like tonkatsu sauce) and mayo. Grilled mackerel was great. I didn’t see it on their menu the last few times we’ve stopped by. They have hamachi kama on the menu(grilled yellowtail collar) — it’s definitely something we’ll have to order next time. Nigiri is solid — fav is the shrimp. Each time we’ve tried to order uni, they were out of it. Handrolls are delicious: Highly recommend their spicy tuna and spicy scallop handrolls

Very small and very clean place in central west end. Came here with husband on Friday night. The restaurant was busy. I ordered sashimi moriawase which was wonderful. Fresh fish and very nice cut. My husband had grilled squid and shrimp tempura. They were delicious. I liked the grilled squid & had to ordered the second one. The infused sake with lychee was delicious. We sat at the sushi bar, the sushi chef was making sure we were okay with food & service. Even though she was busy but took time to asked us. The price was reasonable. The décor was simplicity. It was wonderful evening. We were happy with service& food. Will come back again soon.

This is some of the best sushi in St. Louis. I came here not long after their new head sushi chef started, chef Whitney. .and I am glad she did… she is amazing at what she does each dish is a work of art. I had the grilled squid. Cooked perfectly, tender and not in the least bit chewy, nice flavor from the char grill, and a large portion ad well. Then I ordered the chef selection sashimi, all the fish was fresh and delicious, Whitney made this into a beautiful piece of art. You really do eat with your eyes first and I was shocked when it arrived at my table. I thought I was coming in for a quick lunch, but was surprised to be treated to an outstanding meal… arigato gozaimasu Whitney jang!!!

I’m in St. Louis for work, and decided on dinner at Chi Sushi because it was one of the few places that looked inviting for a solo diner when I glanced in the window. It’s a really pleasant spot, with a quietly friendly atmosphere and very kind, attentive staff. I sat at the sushi bar, and the sushi chef chatted with me and gave me recommendations about which fish were especially good. My sushi was excellent — I particularly recommend the sashimi roll and the CWE roll. If I find myself in St. Louis again, I’ll be back.

Chi is different every time I go. First time years ago was awesome, 2nd time was a little bit less than stellar, and this visit left much to be desired. Not sure if they keep closing and opening with a new owner or new chef. Keep in mind that some reviews from a while ago may not apply to the new chef/staff/owner. We showed up about 7 and sat ourselves. One staff member gave us menus and silverware. About 10 minutes later our order was taken. There were 4 other tables that ordered before us, so we waited about 45 for one roll and 2 nigiri(small order because we had already stopped for food elsewhere and we were still hungry). Since the waitress noticed we were frustrated by the wait, they served us(and the 3 other waiting tables) pot stickers on the house. That move right there totally redeemed this review. An «apology» free appetizer really calms me down and shows that they acknowledge their shortcomings. We ordered the crazy roll and requested they add lemon(something about adding some lemon peel makes the whole roll fresher and brighter– try it next time!). The lemon add-on was $ 1. Not sure if the roll is always so massive or if the chef wanted to apologize for the wait, but the roll was exploding with fish– like 3 pieces of fish 2 inches long poking out each end of the roll! For $ 9, it was a lot of fish. I was very happy with the roll and the presentation. 4 stars for food, 2 stars for service.

On Sat, Feb 20th around 5pm, my beau and I decided to try our neighborhood sushi place. We usually go to Drunken Fish or Vodka Sushi Bar, but we wanted to try something different. We had a terrible experience and will not be returning to this establishment ever again. This is a warning for guys or gals looking for a nice date night place! Avoid, Avoid, AVOID . First, we walked in a stood around the entrance for a couple minutes until the waiter decided to notice us.6 Since there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant, I have no idea what took him so long. He looked at the two of us, and brusquely said that we could seat ourselves. I’m not used to this kind of rude service in St. Louis, but shrugged it off. We approached the nearest booth, and was about to sit down when the waiter hollered over that we «can’t sit there.» Umm… ok? So we moved to another table, and sat for about 5−10minutes awaiting menus, water, napkins, etc. Which NEVER came! Did I mention there were only 2 other couples in the whole place? After about 10 minutes I got up and helped myself. I approached the sushi bar, and requested menus, napkins, and asked if someone could get us water for the table. The chef looked confused, but handed over some utensils, plates, napkins, and menus. After another wait of at least 5 minutes, the waiter popped by and put a couple of glasses on the table and immediately left. No «do you need anything else,» or «hey, sorry you had to serve your self.» He never came back, and I eventually got up and ordered my food at the sushi bar with chef. After some more waiting, the waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to order. At this point, it’s already 20−30minutes after our arrival, and it’s just ridiculous given that there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. Throughout my entire visit, I basically served myself, got my own soy sauce and had to request wasabi and ginger. In what kind of sushi place do you have to Request wasabi and ginger!!! I made my displeasure clear to the waiter, and he did not even apologize. He just listened and walked away. The only thing he was good for was bringing the bill! He was certainly prompt with that. The sushi was good, but not unique. The presentation was pretty and well done, but given the terrible experience I had, and the close proximity of two other good sushi places less than a mile away(with great service and better drinks) there’s no reason for me to ever return.

This restaurant somewhat brought me back to back to the days when I entered an authentic Japanese small restaurant, where I smelled sake and delicious food upon entering. This place is small, with a small amount of Asian decoration. The seating is pretty limited, but they are mostly booths, which is nice and private. We ordered sake and sushi. The presentation of sushi is the one of the best I have had in St. Louis, it came on top of a beautiful glassware. The rice is moist to the right amount, as opposed to many other sushi places where they use old rice, and the two ends points of rice grains were starting to dry. The wasabi was more mild than many other places – just as it is suppose to me. The fish are quite fresh, as fresh as they can be when you order sea food in the midwest. We went there during their happy hour. For the quantity and quality you get, the price was great. One things they should improve on: a more relaxed atmosphere. I think they can achieve this by playing some soft and nice music, and by having their employees less seriously faced – they were nice, just need to let their hair down a bit more(not literally, of course).

The place is very simple and the rolls are fresh and beautifully presented. The tables could use some ambiance and maybe some mood music would liven the place up.

Came here for Happy Hour one afternoon and my friend and I were two of the only people there. Not the best atmosphere, service or most attractive looking place, but it’s still an OK spot to grab some sushi and drinks. Nothing that I’ve had on the menu is HANDSDOWNBEST I’VEEVERHAD kind of food, but it’s good. For instance, their classic rolls and appetizers(i.e. California Roll, Potstickers, etc. just to name a few) are good, look and taste as they should but nothing about them stands out to write home about. Drinks were mere average. Prices were acceptable for Happy Hour, may be a little too pricey during regular hours for what you get. All in all, it’s a Happy Hour to check out if you’re looking for a new place to try out.

Went in on a Friday night and the place was absolutely dead. My wife and I were the only people in there and it took 25 minutes to get 3 small rolls. Sushi was ok but way overpriced for what you get and the atmosphere was very stiff, hardly any interaction from our waiter and he was visibly nervous to be serving us. Everyone was nice so I feel bad writing a negative review but they need to step up the portions or drop the price.

I came here a couple years ago and thought it was so so. Gave it another chance about a month ago and I have been back three times since then! By FAR the best sushi in the CWE. I have eaten both there and done and take out, both with great experiences. Good variety consistent! So happy to have finally found a good sushi spot!

I don’t often eat sushi, but when I have a craving, this is definitely going to be my go-to spot! The restaurant is very cute and quaint inside with a few outdoor tables. The menu has a nice selection of multiple different rolls and has something for everyone! I loved it. I prefer the sashimi, and the chef’s sashimi appetizer was a great way to have a bit of everything, it was delicious! My date wanted some eel, so we picked out one of the rolls that was essentially a California roll topped with eel(can’t remember the name), which was also delicious, even though it would not have been my first choice. I also noticed they have happy hour specials! Too bad we missed those.

Very good sushi. I loved it. BESTSUSHIINCENTRALWESTEND. Although it was a bit too pricy and more expensive than other places. Service was great and generous with their miso soup. I usually skip the miso soup but at this restaurant i actually loved it.

One word: Fresh fish. My boyfriend and I headed to Central West End last night craving some late night sushi at Kampai, which we thought was having a groupon deal which is great for us since as we are two broke-ass students. The deal was over so we said screw them, let’s try a new place and headed to Chi Sushi instead. I’m glad we did because it did not disappoint! We had three rolls: Rainbow Roll($ 13), Cherry Blossom Roll($ 15), and the Crazy Roll($ 9?). The Cherry Blossom roll was delicious and presented gorgeously. The rainbow roll was good and was topped with quality fish. The crazy roll was okay, sort of mediocre but not bad. However, we did have one complaint. The rice was a bit on the dry side and almost had a bite to it. Not that big of a deal when everything else is good. Service was good. Our waiter was upbeat and friendly. He had a good knowledge on their rolls as well. Nothing to complain about here. Price is normal for mid-west sushi. Though a bit high if we were on the West Coast. Sushi on the West Coast seems to be substantially cheaper, perhaps due to higher demand and quantity of restaurants(more competition) equaling to lower prices for better fish quality. So keep this in mind that I am giving this rating and review solely for the St. Louis area.

I’ve been looking at this place for about 2 months. We were really worried about parking, but there is a Barnes garage on Laclede that is super convenient. I started with the miso soup that was very good. We had the potstickers, they were yummy. Okay, so we ordered the flaming roll, Cardinal roll, spider roll and lobster roll. You can’t beat the flaming roll or the lobster roll anywhere, anytime! We had known the chef from Drunken Fish early days. He was so personable and accommodating, I would go back for him alone. Sushi is St. Louis gets no better than this. Believe me, we go everywhere! Thanks Tommy, the waiter, you were great! Be back soon!

My husband & I had a great date here recently. It was happy hour, so we tried a little of everything. The peach sake was good but the blueberry & lemon was even better [and apparently infused in house by our amazing server]! Sushi was fresh & beautiful. We tried the seaweed salad, edamame, spicy tuna hand roll, & my favorite, the Jurassic Park with soft shell fried crab. It was awesome! My only thing is that the restaurant needed a little love in the ambiance department.

Very interesting combinations, and great happy hour specials. I’ll definitely be back. I did find a small piece of shrimp shell in the«Hot Mama» roll, but other than that, I was very satisfied. The Fire & Ice roll was the most interesting combination of flavors, of the rolls we ordered.

The food was very good. The prices were what you would expect from sushi. Our wait time was slightly surprising given the fact that we were one of two people in the restaurant, but given the great presentation of the food, it made sense. The inside of the restaurant was small but felt comfy and had a good vibe. The waiter was friendly

I ate here this evening with my partner, and it was phenomenal! This is a cozy little sushi place with great service. We sat at the bar where we could watch the chef work. The chi martini was amazing! A crisp cucumber flavor that was very refreshing and complimented our sushi very well. We ordered the Jurassic Park Roll and the Cherry Blossom Roll, both of which where delicious. The Cherry Blossom was more refreshing(with salmon on the outside and avocado inside) and the Jurassic Park was richer with a bit more spice. The servers were attentive without being overbearing. Definitely recommend this place and we will certainly be going back!

Nice fat rolls at a good price! I forgot what we got, but I remember thinking that each one was delicious and really good. The rolls as mentioned before were a good price and were a great size! Each of their special or unique rolls had great flavors and definitely take the chance to take advantage of any of their specials if they have any on board that particular day, the day I went they had uni and toro! Rarely seen at other sushi restaurants in the STL area. The service was great! The server was upbeat and hilarious as he refilled our water or even getting us a new pencil since ours was broken. If this place was as good the first time I went I hope it will be just as good the next few times I go! It was my first time trying it after their ownership change and it was pretty good!.Keep doing you Chi Sushi!

This place is phenomenal! I was stuck on a different sushi place and really was not in the mood to try out a new place, but I decided to go for it and I’m so glad that I did. The sushi was some of the best that I have ever had! Every roll we had was amazing, I could not say that one roll was sub par! The server was on top of everything, we never had empty glasses, he was funny and energetic, very good at his job! I do not have one negative thing to say about this place. We called ahead and told them we had a table of four coming and they had our table ready to go when we got here. As you can tell by the pictures the presentation was fantastic but the best part is that the rolls tasted just as great as they looked! I will be making this my go to sushi place and it’s the best location for us after work which is just across the street! I can’t wait to go back!
