I went in expecting a scratch made breakfast. I was really disappointed. I had the smothered breakfast. The biscuits were pre-made and probably defrosted, eggs came out of a carton. I asked for sausage links and they put patties on there and I asked for links and they brought me some but they charged me for them. It was like being charged for their mistake. So $ 17 for a pre-made breakfast and coffee was something I won’t do again

Good food. Good service. Good prices. Random location, which adds to the ambience. Nothing fancy but does the job and does it well. No non-swine breakfast meat options so only 3 stars. They did offer me a hamburger patty in place of the bacon and sausage… but then they charged me an extra $ 2…wasn’t too happy about that but otherwise cool little place

I just went to this Restaurant for the first time today and have to tell you I was very impressed. I had the Fried Chicken which is the best I have ever had out of all the restaurants I eat at on a regular basis. The service is very friendly and you are checked on regularly to make sure you have everything you need. Will be returning soon!!!

Well I hate to complain but we went for breakfast today, kinda strange location but sometimes these little hole in walls are great that isn’t the case here. Place is clean, waiters was nice but food was terrible as soon as my plate of food was set on table I smelled a old musky oder I believe from the sausage or old oil. Food tasted like a old dish rag, my wife hade sausage biscuits sandwich she couldn’t smell sausage because of the cheap cheese that was melted on it, coffee was really bad also. To top it off our total was $ 23 plus tip. Couldn’t get out fast enough hurried home to wash my mouth out. You definitely could get a better meal and coffee at QT.

This is a no frills diner in a no frills location with no frills patrons. I moved to Holly Hills recently and was looking for a good, local, cheap breakfast place near by. I found it! The service and the food was fresh and fast. I rarely eat country fried steak but I ordered it and it was piping hot, crispy and the gravy was thick and creamy. Alderman Tom Villa walked in as we were getting ready to leave. It seemed like he was a regular, so the place must be legit, right?

This corner diner in Patch, surrounded by warehouses and factories and flanked by the Mighty Mississippi herself, has quickly become my new favorite place to grab breakfast. Now that I’ve gone a few times and experienced the same excellent standard of both food and service, I can comfortably award Carondelet Diner five stars. Whether I’ve been the only patron in the place, or each table has been occupied, the service has always been friendly and attentive. The servers keep refills of coffee and soda coming and the food always comes out hot, never over– or underdone. The kitchen keeps up with the crowd; I’ve never reached that point where I’ve thought, «I wonder where our food is…» Considering the excellent flavor and generous portions, Carondelet Diner is easy on the wallet. Most of the menu’s offerings will fill you up for fewer than $ 10. There’s plenty of parking on the street nearby; and the entrance has a double door, which keeps drafts to a minimum if you’re sitting nearby.

Love this place a lot. It is my new go to location. The breakfast is great and very filling. Heading there today to try the fried chicken. The only reason for the lost star is the place has suddenly become very busy and the staff is adjusting to the sudden popularity. They can handle a group of 6 to 8 but the place is small so keep that in mind. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned they have pie… homemade PIE!

Stopped by for a quick breakfast before a day of shopping with the girlfriend. We both ordered the smothered breakfast and boy was it delicious! It is a lot of food and we probably could’ve just shared the one. Our waitress was super friendly and very efficient especially considering she was the only one waiting tables and the place became crowded quick. We will definitely be returning.

Nice place, what I call a high end diner. Warm dark wood features with a neighborhood feel. I ordered sunny side up eggs French toast bacon half order of biscuits and gravy, sourdough toast, hash browns. Over all the food was great service was extremely great. My coffee cup was never empty! Biscuit could be more crisp to counter act the gravy from Making them too smushy. I’ll come back for sure!

Yes, we were intimidated by the exterior & the industrial area. We actually decided once not to eat here. But then today, we said lets just try it. Boy, are we glad we did. We grabbed our closest friends & went for it. And none of us were disappointed. We will definitely be back. We all had breakfast. The waitress mentioned that they have the best fried chicken. And then we saw a server bring some out for another customer, oh my gosh, it looked amazing! We will definitely have to come back to try that! And there were several tables that seemed to be regulars, wouldn’t be surprised if we join them. :)

I can say this place is informal… In the best way! You’ll feel right at home and a part of the family here. Don’t be afraid to chat with the staff if you can. Great people! I enjoyed a good breakfast for lunch and I’ll be back soon that’s for sure! The Sunday Rush is what you’ll need to lookout for, lines out the door! They have some fun specials during the week and some«off menu» items on the weekends. The prices are great when it comes to city prices. My meal cost right at the low end of what I would guess(I really liked that).

Oh yeah. You want some good, hearty diner breakfast food. You’re going to get it here. Went here on Saturday mid-morning with some running buddies, following a very long run. This place must have been a corner bar in a past life, and really is hidden away in a little patch of off-the-path neighborhood. But it is unassuming and satisfies. There’s not a whole lot of space inside. However, we found an open table, and the waitress was very friendly. I don’t know if she was the owner, or manager, or what — but she was the only one working the floor, and man was she buzzing around to keep everyone served. So the menu had a lot of stick-to-your-ribs options that all looked like a lot of food. I happened to see some heart attack plate come out to another customer, and caught the lady who had delivered it to ask what it was. She said, «I don’t know. I just cook it in the back and they asked me to bring it out.» What? How is that even possible. Thankfully, our waitress knew(of course), and that is what I ordered. It was the smothered breakfast — biscuits smothered in hashbrowns, smothered in two eggs(mine were over hard), smothered in two sausage patties(or bacon), smothered in homemade(country) gravy. Oh, it was big, it was savory, it was just enough saltiness — it was good! My friends each got two pancakes(which were each plate sized), scrambled eggs, and bacon. That also all looked really tasty — and they said it was. So I don’t know what more to add. It’s a hidden gem, catering to locals, and just did a very good job for me as a satisfying breakfast diner.

I’ve been meaning to try this place for awhile, I’ve seen the good reviews but hadn’t managed to go by until today, and I’m glad I did. From the outside, and the area you wouldn’t imagine it to be anything special, but once you go inside you’ll find that this place is a little gem, tucked away in this south side neighborhood that you would probably have passed right on by and missed out. I always did, pass right on by, but now this is my go-to spot for any diner related needs I have. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked in, but I was greeted by a very clean and modern dining area. It’s clear they put some work into making the dining area welcoming. A single flat screen tv is on the wall for sports enthusiasts. They don’t have a lot of seating area, my guess is no more than 40 seats comprised of booths, tables and a small bar. I sat at the bar and low and behold, the area ward alderman was in there! He came up and talked to me, made jokes and whatnot. I felt like there was a general air of friendliness here, not just with the workers but the patrons too. I ordered the Smothered Breakfast. Two biscuits, topped with scrambled eggs, shredded hash browns(I like shredded, not country potatoes) and a choice of bacon, sausage links or sausage patties(I chose links) and smothered in gravy. It was top notch diner food, it was delicious, it was filling, it was everything I was from a diner. The eggs were fluffy, the gravy was just mildly spicy and flavorful(I hate places with bland gravy) but those sausage links were killer. They weren’t dinky little jimmy dean links. These were big ‘ol honkin’ meaty links that were as big as a Nathan’s All Beef Frank. I honestly think they got their links from a butcher shop. They were so meaty, we’ll seasoned and delicious, you can’t get that from frozen. They serve the entire menu all day, and I was delighted to see they served fried chicken. The waitress told me sometimes they do a chicken n waffle breakfast special. I will definitely be back!

Carondelet Diner reopened under new owners and I finally got to check it out. I have to say it was good, but not 5-star good like my previous review of the old location because the food is more typical and not as unique. That being said, I had the Ultimate Breakfast and, for only $ 7.99, I got eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns and pancakes. It was a ton of food and everything was cooked to perfection. The place is very clean and service was great.
