History
Established in 1994.
The building was built in 1914 by Adolphus Busch and opened as the Gretchen Inn (a Bavarian style pub and restaurant). Throughout the years it has changed hands on a few occasions with the current owners (Marty and Sue Luepker) taking over the challenge of restoring this once great building to its original shine. Opened in 1994 as Al Smiths Feasting Fox, the décor pays homage to the rich history of St. Louis along with much of the furniture coming from other historic restaurants in the city. The name comes from a combination of the name known to Dutchtowners, Al Smith’s, and the Feasting Fox, the symbol of hospitality which graces the side of the Anheuser Busch Brewery.
