Pricey but the food was good. First waitress was cranky and rude. Pretty much threw our food at us. She left and our second waitress was very nice.

I stopped there for lunch on Sunday, the waitstaff was less than desirable, and not very attentive to out needs. The«woodsman» burger I ordered came out WAYOVER cooked. to the point I could not eat. Will not be returning.

Great staff but very expensive! Three of us had breakfast for about $ 32, a bit high for breakfast I feel! Had basically the same items at the Mooselook Restaurant in Concord for $ 10 less!

The atmosphere is casual. The staff was a bit thin, however it was a Sunday evening. The haddock was served in large portions and was quite tasty. The clam chowder had a creamy broth and there was plenty of clam meat. Chicken barley was a good alternative. The Buffalo chicken tenders were not spicy but tasty. The«woodsman’ burgers were Angus beef were severed in large portions, but lacked a bit in flavor. A bit disappointing as were the onion rings which were cooked in too much batter. The sweet potatoes fries were cut thin, but were a bit soggy. Hot water for tea was a bit too tepid for the tea to properly brew. Overall, a good experience.

We were so impressed with the quality of our dinner we came back for breakfast during our short stay in St. Johnsbury. The omelette and sausage did not disappoint. The homemade blueberry cobbler was delicious and the waitstaff friendly. We highly recommend eating at Anthony’s!

We stayed in St. Johnsbury, VT while visiting the Dog Chapel. While our hotel was lackluster they did recommend Anthony’s Diner for breakfast. My manfriend and I were pleasantly surprised by how clean it was. We both ordered a big breakfast of steak & eggs and that was really good! We really liked this place and if we are ever in town again we will be back!

I would give Anthony’s four stars for their breakfast and zero for lunch/dinner, so I’m averaging out to two stars. Breakfast is typical diner fare. Fast. Inexpensive. Tasty. Plentiful. We frequent them for breakfast and have always had great service. Lunch/dinner — wow! I have never walked out of there with a bill under $ 35 for two. The food quality is average to subpar diner food. It wouldn’t be so bad if the prices weren’t sky high! Just a simple soup and sandwich will leave you with a $ 20 check. I’d rather go up the road to Dylan’s for a delicious, fresh meal for the same cost, if less, than eat a $ 10 turkey club.

I am a local so I have eaten here a few times. It’s very mediocre food, and incredibly overpriced for the quality. If you are contemplating were to eat near St. Johnsbury, drive ten minutes and go to The Mooselook Restaurant in Concord, VT, or the Miss Lyndonville Diner in Lyndonville, VT. Both are very good and better priced. Would not recommend Anthony’s.

The last two trips here have been rough. The soggiest, sadest, wettest(yes, wet) French fries ever. Thirty three dollars for two grilled cheeses with fries and a side of rice pudding(the only edible part of the meal). The prices for anything other than breakfast are just outrageous for a diner. Service is sporadic and sarcastic. Some of the staff are friendly and great but not the past few times. I felt like I was walking on egg shells. Overall, the food was just so greasey and soggy– it was visually appalling. I am very turned off from this place now.

Well it’s clean, but after that so far service is horrible. Waitress moves like a snail. Took a long time just to get coffee. Diners should have coffee arriving with the waitress. She visited our table three times before coffee came out. Waitress delivered food to edge of table and walked away. Food was average but good and came out quick. All in all this is a won’t come back because of service!

I’ve been going to various incarnations of this particular location for decades. The fact that I keep coming back probably speaks for itself, but if there’s one problem here it’s consistency, particularly in the service. Some of the staff are pleasant enough but others couldn’t look more miserable if they tried. At this point my family and I use this as an occasional breakfast spot, as the breakfast menu is the most consistently strong. Lunch and dinner options are available but aren’t always good enough to justify the pricing. That’s not to say that the pricing is completely over the top, but it’s a tad high for the usual quality of the sandwiches or meals. Breakfast however is a safe bet. Just don’t expect actual local maple syrup, they use imitation stuff for no reason I’m able to identify.

We sat down at an empty, unbussed booth, and after feeling invisible for 10 minutes. Gave up and left. There were 3 waitresses, not a packed place for12:00, but none looked too busy to wait on us, or acknowledge our presence! They walked around empty handed, in no rush whatsoever. One blonde waitress stood within 6 feet of our table, took their order, then walked off without so much as a nod. Totally surreal. I know it’s small town, but as a Vermont resident for 15 years, I can honestly say I have never in my life received zero service-ever-from anywhere. Unilocal needs a «0» star review, or in this case negative zero. We walked up the hill to Dylan’s on Eastern St, where we received instant and warm greeting. Fresh hot coffee and great food! If you are undecided about where to eat in St J… Run from Anthony’s, go to Dylan’s instead.

We stopped here on our way to Montréal. We were looking for a quick bite of lunch that wasn’t McDonalds and Anthony’s Diner was just what the doctor ordered. The place was clean and the staff friendly, an they assured us that all of the food was homemade. I had the Eastern Egg sandwich. Nothing fancy but hot and tasty. My two sons had burgers with real French-fried potatoes. Their burgers were good meat and didn’t need any condiments. Look, it’s just a diner, right? But if you want to get off the interstate for less than a minute, have a decent meal and stretch your legs in St. Johnsbury, give Anthony’s a try.

This rating is really just about the service. The breakfast was good. We brought 5 well behaved kids, did not get so much as a Good morning from our waitress. She drops the menus on the table, without even a «would you like some coffee?» Comes back and says do you know what you want yet! Just nooo personality. We say thank you after anything is brought to us, not one your welcome. Drops the check on the Table with no «would you like anything else». Just not family freindly. The night before we went to the Lydonville Diner with 6 kids and 4 adults and they were very freindly. Worth the 15 min drive. If you just want breakfast and don’t care about service, then the food is fine, but don’t expect anything else.

Great place to stop for a quick friendly and home made breakfast. Bypass any fast food and stop here. Skillets were delicious. Inexpensive too.

This diner is nothing remarkable. The prices are very high for a diner, but I can’t help but think that’s because it’s in the scummy part of St. Johnsbury and they keep the prices high to keep the scumbags out of the place. In the times I have been there, it has never been busy, service has been nothing to write home about, and the bill is expensive for the NEK. Go to Eastern & Main Market & Deli up the street and get a delicious breakfast sandwich and sit on their patio(in the summer).

My friend and I wandered into Vermont while visiting the White Mountains and decided to find some poutine. We asked a waitress and she said they had it so we went inside. Typical small town diner ambiance. The menu looked good and the prices were reasonable. The poutine was not real poutine; cheddar cheese and the wrong gravy plus overcooked french fries. My hamburger(despite asking for medium) was char broiled. Yuck. The waitress never came over to ask how everything was and didn’t even question why we didn’t eat the burger. My friend liked his meatloaf and thought the cottage cheese side was pretty unique but he wasn’t blown away either. Not somewhere that I’d return to.

Nothing special. Good places to eat seem few and far between in St. Johnsbury, from what we saw. I did like that they carried a couple of funky local beers. The turkey clubs were uninspired. The waitresses, both ours and the others I saw, were kind of cranky. I know that working a diner is all hustle and a hard job, but for me going out, it is an overall experience we are evaluating, and if you look like you want to walk in front of a train, it kind of brings me down. Local tap water undrinkable, do not order it. Fries, crappy as far as I was concerned. Booths weird sizes, too small for 2 on each side, a little big for 1 on each side. Parking good… we got a free space on the street, but there is a big lot across the street at the former Railroad station. Really a 2.5, but in this case I am going to round down, not up.
