Where to start… I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I booked a weeklong stay at the Value Place Hotel. I have stayed at extended stay facilities before and been impressed with the value given for the money paid. However, the Value Place is NOT a good value. We arrived after driving across the country to find that our reservation did not actually RESERVE the hotel. Instead, we were told that reservations are really just«requests.» If you reserve a hotel four months in advance(as we did) and they run out of rooms, you’re out of luck. News flash: A «reservation» isn’t a «reservation» unless you HOLD the reservation. It doesn’t matter that you can TAKE the reservation… it’s the HOLDING that counts. I believe there was a Seinfeld episode about this very thing… In the end, we were shoved into a smoking-floor handicapped room. It cost much more than the one we reserved, but we were in a financial bind and couldn’t really afford to do anything else. The unit was disgustingly dirty. The floor was sticky and had this brown, maple syrup-like substance coating the bathroom. The towels had brown stains on them. The place REEKED of something besides just smoke — I think it was really the smell of filth, pure and simple. Worst of all, the bed was so short that my feet hung off the bottom by at least six inches… and I’m 5’7″! The bed kept sliding off the frame(which is a plywood pedestal and very slick… wtf…), so we ended up on the floor several times if we tried to roll over. The whole thing concluded with a trip to Walmart to buy an inflatable mattress. Yep… we spent a week sleeping on a blow-up mattress on the floor rather than sleeping on the creepy bed. I felt very unsafe here. A drunk man accosted me in the elevator one night and kept poking the tattoo on my back and telling me how much he liked it. Then, when he saw that I had some leftover food from a restaurant in my hands, he winked and asked if he could come into my room and eat… then proceeded to wink over and over with this weird grin. Double-entendre much? When I checked out, it was a mess. I didn’t get a copy of my receipt… the man just said, «um, okay, well, bye!» If you end up in St. Charles and don’t have a place to stay, you’re better off sleeping in your car in a Walmart parking lot. This place is seriously disturbing.

I stayed in the Value Place Extended Stay hotel for 7 nights during the holidays, and it was an extremely good bargain. For $ 179.99, I had a quiet, clean room with a kitchen, there was an onsite laundry room, onsite vending, and it was walking distance from Walgreens, Dollar General, several restaurants, and grocery stores. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless,(which is extremely important), and the onsite staff was friendly and helpful. They have a special now for $ 159.99. It’s unbelievable how much you get for such an exceptionally low price!
