Valley Lodge Tavern

Went here tonight and was sooo sad when I went to open their back door and it was locked! This is my favorite bar in the area and I really hope if it reopens, their pretzel bread appetizer with cheese stays. We go sometimes just for that.
Please come back! My heart is broken.

I heard that McNally’s might open again. I really liked that place.
My opinion…
If it does please take down some of the TVs on the first floor, what I liked about the old mc’s was the atmosphere it was a place to gather and get to know others a pub not a sports bar. Also bring back Shea!

Permanently closed on Dec 27, 2015. Bye bye, McNally;s imposter. Open since April, 2015, you will not be missed.

Awesome staff. Bartenders are the nicest in town. Food is good and drinks are plenty. Nice patios in the summer. Interior is nice and crowd is good.

I was very sad to see the Irish pub no longer at this location but we decided to give this place a try. The servers/​bartenders were great as were the cocktails. However, the food we had was meh. We had the fries with curry sauce and the buffalo wings and neither one has any flavor. There are way too many fantastic places in this area to waste your taste buds here.

We went on a Sunday around 4pm for an early dinner. I enjoyed the décor and overall vibe of the place. The staff was nice and came around just the right amount.
One negative was that this establishment smells like a bar. The old stale liquor smell was abundant and obvious as opposed to smelling like a restaurant with food smells from the kitchen.
We ordered the green bean fries for an appetizer and I loved them. We both got turkey burgers as we don’t eat red meat. The burgers were excellent!
If someone invited me back here I would go but it’s not somewhere that stuck out as having amazing food and somewhere I would NEED to revisit.

Dinner was pretty good. My problem is watching two adult males and 3 kids under 5 sitting at the bar for 20 minutes. Probably wai ting for a table, But still. …

Came in for lunch on a Saturday with my mother and aunt, on a beautifully sunny day. We sat outside on the back patio, which opens to a plaza and where you can see the Fox River not far from where you sit. We were going for a light lunch, each had small soups — delicious potato leek, vegetarian — which were generous portions and would have been enough, but we also split a crisped spicy seafood wrap. The waitress was great and more than accommodating: the kitchen split our one order three ways! Plenty of food, great flavors… I especially enjoyed the sweet potato fries. Would certainly come here again.

Enjoyed our early dinner here last Saturday. Kid friendly, wide variety of food, and were surprised with half price appetizers 3 – 6 on a Saturday. Beer menu was above average with local brews on tap (Penrose). We even got a visit from a manager, asking how our meal was (can’t remember the last time that has happened to us). Will return, especial during happy hour.

Not sure where to start. Went on a Tuesday around 5. We were the only patrons in the restaurant. Bar had about 6 people. Since it is a small place, it can be VERY loud. Wait person was not able to answer questions about the menu items. We were provided no bread, butter. When next customer arrived they were placed right next to our party while there were tables open in other parts (now two tables with customers). Not busy at all. Since tables are placed close together, it became extremely difficult to talk amongst the three of us. We waited a long time (excessive) for our food. Soup (French onion, it was good) came at the same time our meals came. Not good planning. My skirt steak ordered as medium well came to me as rare. Knew instantly when I saw the red juices on my plate that there was an issue.
Once food was dropped off, never saw the server he just disappeared. No check back on how things were. I had to pick up my plate and go to the back of the restaurant to find someone about my rare steak. The lady I found was most helpful. At least I had the soup to eat. Steak finally arrived cooked as requested. No drink refill. With only 2 tables filled on the inside and such horrendous service, not sure what would happen if they had more customers.
First visit and do not plan on returning or recommending. One plus is the outdoor patio looks nice.

Stopped by before a show at the Arcada on a Tuesday. Arrived around 5:30 and tables were available either inside or out. It was pretty steamy out so we opted for an inside table. As soon as we sat down I almost suggested we sit outside due to the overwhelming ‘morning after’ bar smell. It was really funky. I ordered the sloppy joe which was very good. A hint of smoke gave it a little kick. Steak fries were cooked perfectly and the slaw looked and tasted like it was made in-​house. My brother had a salad that was on the specials menu and said it was pretty good.
Overall I’d like to give another star for the food and service but given the smell, they have some work to do.

The whole meal was spot on, fish &chips and the chips (fries) weren’t dry — wild caught cod, very fresh and chunky. 2 good size pieces. My Dad had the kitchen made chili, pieces of chopped roast beef, mild spice, tomatoe chunks. Mom had the Reuban (McNallys version) thick cut Pastrami on marble rye and a unique apple slaw. Restaurant has nice ambience. Manager has great welcoming personality, saw my Mom would have trouble with stairs and seated us downstairs at the front window. Very nice waitress. Will definitely be back!

Man, this is some great food! Went in with a work group for drinks and appetizers. Their appetizer selection was excellent, so we ordered most of them. Not a bad one in the group! Drinks we very good– though we mostly ordered beer (of which they had a great selection!).
The staff there was highly attentive. Greeted us right at the door, and found a prime spot for our large group. The wait staff was quick and super friendly.
This is a place I will go back to again, but this time with my wife. Good food, good staff– impressed!

Half price appetizers weekdays 4 – 6 was great! Nachos were very different and delicious, and all other apps that were carried out looked great.

Nice atmosphere in DT STC on the river. Classier feel than Alley 64 or Filling Station.
Waitress was sweet and accommodating (she took care of my Unilocal coupon and splitting the check without question). She forgot about my water though.
Burger on a pretzel bun was delightful! Steak fries were alright.

Took the wife here for date night, our 1^st time here and we were instantly impressed. It follows the theme of it’s name, a lodge feeling great ambiance. We came for dinner and we weren’t let down. I had the ribs and my wife the Cajun Linguine, my ribs were fall off the bone tender with plenty of meat on them with a savory sauce. My wife’s linguine had a great andoullie sausage that was nicely spicy and tender, also contained really large shrimp all in a rich creamy sauce. The food and the cocktails were reasonably priced especially for such a high end kind of place. I would recommend this place to anyone and the staff will make you feel great about your time here. Two thumbs up, give it a try.

Visiting the burbs today with family, we wandered in to Valley Lodge Tavern. It has kind of a dark woodsy feel and a decent looking bar. We opted to sit outside because you never waste a warm, sunny day in Chicagoland. Apparently there’s an upstairs deck and a patio area. The upstairs was full but there was room on the patio. Valley Lodge is a stone’s throw from the picturesque Fox River. The patio was well decorated with beautiful flowers and a flowing fountain nearby. I started off with a nice cool mule, but ended up trading with a family member for a drink called rite of spring. It was vodka and an elderflower liquor and it was much tamer than the mule, since I was driving. The mule was made with a generous amount of liquor! The rite of spring was light and refreshing. So, being a salad girl I got a Greek salad. It was tasty and topped with Greek olives and, pepperoncini. It was good, but not unlike the billion other Greek salads I’ve had in my lifetime. When I venture back to the burbs, I would again consider taking advantage of the lovely patio and nice drink selection.

Was excited to try, but pretty disappointed. Food took way too long, especially considering how slow it was on a Monday afternoon. The vibe of the place is pretty… Depressing. Slow, sad music. Bad vibes overall.
Food was decent, but was expecting better with how long it took. My boyfriend had the Cajun linguini, and the only Cajun thing about it was the andouille sausage. Otherwise it was just pasta and shrimp in a butter-​like sauce.
Could have been a much worse experience, but with how many great options there are in St. Charles/​Geneva area this place needs to spice it up a bit – food and atmosphere. Service was good, especially the bus boys. They were very on top of it. Will try it again in a few months hoping they’ve improved.

We loved this place! My daughter had the
Mini Tenderloin sandwich’s on a pretzel roll and they melted in her mouth! I ordered the chop salad with a grilled chicken breast. This was very tasty and I had them
Leave out the blue cheese and it was no problem. Our waitress was Deanna. She was so sweet and attentive. They also have other help constant attention a around. The hostess was very helpful also. We are going back!!!

Today was the first we have been since the switch from McNallys. Needless to say, we are sad that McNallys is gone. It was our favorite restaurant in the area. VL pales in comparison. Same general comments as other review: (1) Sunday evening — totally dead and it still took way TOO long for our order; (2) some tables got bread and we didn’t.
Other comments:
–My order was wrong.
–Food wasn’t as good as before and kids agreed. Didn’t seem to be the same quality of ingredients as before.
— wait staff is totally changed over. Where did they go?
Oh well, we will have to find another local restaurant. So sad. :(
