The Norris Recreation Center, a gift from the St. Charles-native Norris family, is a nonprofit establishment makes living healthier a viable option for the modern family. Within its stone walls, five dedicated rooms bustle with the whir of cardio and weight-training equipment, and swimmers careen down the 12 lanes of the 50-meter pool during lessons, lap swims, open pool time, and completely renovated stellar indoor tennis courts, functional as they are breathtaking, give players the game they’ve come to love.

Trained instructors lead 13 free classes throughout the week, with diverse aerobic curricula that include Spin, Yoga, Zumba, and Pilates. As parents work out, childcare professionals engage lads and lasses with interactive games, toys, and movies in the center’s nursery, where kids build social skills and imagination.

Meet the Manager

Mark H.

Manager

Our family moved to St. Charles in 1981. We became patrons of the Norris Recreation Center same year. My Mother, Linda Hensel, a teacher of D303 and the most active member of our family, raised myself along with my Brother and Sister, both of whom are currently D303 teachers, to always seek out the answers to our curiosity in life, to turn the tv off, get outside to play, and to always be mindful of others.

In 1975 Lester and Delora Norris donated the John B. Norris Recreation Center to our community for the sole purpose of creating and safe and healthy environment to support individuals and families alike improve their quality of life. The philanthropic nature of Mr. Lester and Mrs. Delora Norris resonates much of how we were raised as children.

It has been over 30 years since I first came to the NRC, and now I have the privilege of being the Facility Manger. I take great pride in my position and what the NRC provides for our community. Feel free to ask for me to chat anytime.
