South Beach Grill

Very poor service. They took over an hour to bring out our food and appetizers as well Nd it seemed like everyone else had gotten their food. Food (blackened fish) was bland and tasteless but shrimp appetizer was nice. We ordered a drink which was also forgotten and then they mixed up our check amounts and added 3 things on our receipt fthat others oredered. We didnt even bother to correct since it would take too long.

All around a great place for great food. Service/​Staff is always friendly and inviting, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The hummus & pita appetizer is great. We had the fish tacos w/​pasta salad and the cantina bowl with chicken and both were fabulous. Key lime pie for dessert was a plus! I have to say, if you’re from Florida and like authentic tart key lime pie, do not get it here but it is good. The outside patio seating is great when it’s nice outside. Overall great place to go whether you’re in a group or just as a date!

My experience here started out pretty poorly with a hostess who was very unfriendly. She told me the length of the wait and then said I could sit in the Tiki bar which was «through there and then to the left and the left.» If there were seats, which were first come first serve. No offer to show me there, or look on the camera, which a later hostess used to see if there was seating available. She crossed my name off the list when I went to see if there was room in the Tiki bar. I left without eating.
After walking the beach for a while, I still was interested in trying their food and didn’t want to drive anywhere. Different hostess. I shared the earlier experience and she apologized and said that hostess «isn’t very nice in the day.» There was a seat in the Tiki bar this time, as seen on the camera.
I had the South Beach Breeze drink with coconut, and it was very tasty. I ordered a cup of the Roasted Corn and Blue crab chowder which was very good, nicely seasoned and flavorful. Local Grouper was among the fresh fish selection and I ordered it with the jerk seasoning. It’s a flavorful, modestly spicy sauce that was wonderful mixed in with the rice and beans that came with the dish. A side of green beans and vegetables also accompanied. A choice of regular or Caesar salad also came with it; I had the Caesar and it was drenched with dressing, unfortunately. The portions are sizable… I brought half home and left full.
Overall, the food was good and the service from Jon and the second hostess was very good. The menu is eclectic… I’d definitely come back to sample more.

We had excellent Thai Shrimp Tacos and vegetable egg rolls. The side of beans and rice were fantastic! Great dining experience.

I’ve heard about this place and wanted to try it since it’s gotten good reviews. I’m beginning to think most beachside restaurants should only be visited for appetizers and drinks.
We arrived at a slow time, only a few tables occupied, so I thought we’d get good service and it shouldn’t take long for our order to come up.
We were seated at a table that had not been cleaned from the previous customer… crumbs, liquid spoiled on the table, the sticky ring from the glasses. So I used a napkin and the water from my glass to wipe it down. Kinda tells you something about the staffs attention to detail when there’s 5 or 6 of them standing around waiting for people to come in, and there are dirty tables.
Wait staff was scarce, but very polite.
We ordered, I had to try their fried combo platter, always on the lookout for the best fried fish in town!
It was ok, the shrimp were perfect, the clams were good, the fish fillets were a bit overdone, and the crab cake was awful (more sticky filler then any other ingredient).
The blue cheese burger was very dry.
All in all… I’ll go back … probably should try one of their chef specials … but more likely for appetizers and drinks. The view alone is worth that much!

My friend is visiting from Nebraska and wanted to go to the beach. She has mobility issues so we drive, park, and enjoy. We both decided we wanted to go to a beachside restaurant and have a cocktail. We were in the St. Augustine area and stopped in at the South Beach Grill as it has ground floor beach viewing (it has a nice upstairs area). They also have a nice outside patio with picnic tables.
Happy hour is from 3 PM until 6 PM. Beer, wine and well brand liquor is available. We both opted for a Bloody Mary which was delicious. We also ordered the hummus which was a very generous portion with avocado, warm pita points and crackers. What a nice treat we found this place to be. I plan to go back and try the food. The service was awesome.

Great find! Sit upstairs if you can. Great view and breeze.
I had the fried goat cheese salad. It’s beyond amazing! I added grilled shrimp and it just topped it off.
My mom had the sunset salad with shrimp and she said it was great.

The seafood dishes we had were fresh and delicious. We’ll return when back in this area for sure.

I only did a to-​go order but the hostess was super nice and she even brought my food out to me (I was walking around the pier waiting). The pasta was creamy and excellent. I would go back here to try other stuff

We were out for a drive and decided to stop by here for lunch. We had the conch fritters and they were amazing. Lots of conch in them. I had the thai shrimp tacos… Yummy. My husband had the blackened fish wrap… Yummy. My daughter had the Caesar salad. It was a larger portion. She ranked it as pretty good. We sat outside on a nice cool April afternoon.

Great food and atmosphere. Pay attention to the check. Mistakes happen and i was charged for a drink that i did not order.

Hoping our waitress will learn to smile today. Good tea for beach tea. Not as sweet as NC iced tea. Wonderful view from the dining room upstairs of the ocean and beach. Due to it’s location, the place stays busy.

EXCELLENT food, very knowledgable and attentive service, and to top it off a gorgeous view of the ocean.
The menu had a very wide variety of options, both with high-​quality seafood dishes and options for those with an aversion to seafood. We had the Hummus with Avocado, Arugala Salad, the Salmon (Crescent Beach sautéed), the Fish (Mahi Mahi) and Grits, Mahi Mahi fish tacos, and the kids had fried shrimp baskets. For dessert, we had the fried Banana «Xango», the Chocolate Peanutbutter fudge, and the chocolate mousse for the kids. We would have licked every plate if it had been socially permissible.
Our server, Shelley, was very proactive, and constantly ahead of every request we had. She is probably one of the best servers I’ve ever seen. If you’re reading this Shelley, you’re a food super hero!
Overall, an unexpected, but memorably wonderful experience.

Happy to see First Magnitude brew at this restaurant. Dinner with his parents and our daughter, each entrée met or exceeded expectations: great flounder, 2 fish tacos, steak wrap, and bacon cheeseburger. Nice heated covered patio seating. Service was ok for a busy Saturday. Tony was an awesome host juggling the walk ins and call ahead seating.

2016 New year’s Eve dinner was fantastic. This restaurant is located directly on the beach and serves up some very fine tasting food. I was with a party of 8 and everyone mentioned there meals were very good. The place was jam packed with a line to get in so I thought that service this night might be a bit slow. Our server was the lovely Elise, I thanked her for the outstanding service that night she provided our group. No problems. She is an asset to this establishment. I had the Blue Crab Chowder for appetizer and the Thai Shrimp Tacos with red beans & Rice and I must say both items were outstanding. Good Flavor and seasoned perfectly. They have a great selection of beer & wine and the food prices are reasonable. Did I mention our service was top notch, Yes it was. A must try spot if you’re looking for a nice atmosphere & great food.

As a native to the area I know it’s really tough to find a restaurant with good food and service right on the ocean in Saint Augustine/​Crescent Beach. First of all, there’s a large patio in the back with picnic tables and a great view of the ocean. The place doesn’t look like much on the outside or inside and it’s definitely casual but hey, that’s what you expect for a beachy seafood joint.
I was actually really surprised at some of the ingredients on the menu. Please give me one person that would expect to see crème fraîche (or anything not fried) on the menu at this place when they pull up in the sand parking lot. We started with some beers and conch fritters. There was a good deal of conch in the fritter and they didn’t taste/​feel like a deep fried grease ball like some of the restaurants that make fritters in the area. I had a lemon butter wahoo with rice pilaf for my entrée. The fish was cooked perfectly. It punched me in the face with flavor (in a good way). The veggies and rice were cooked to perfection. This place was VERY unexpected for a beachside seafood joint.
Disclaimer: I gave it 4 stars but for the price, atmosphere and food in THIS area, I would give it 5. I’m just rating relative to the other restaurants I’ve been to and being a New Yorker now I’m pretty spoiled in the restaurant department.

This place is just ok. There are so many better restaurants in the area but there are also plenty that are worse. The pros of this place is definitely the view and their drinks. If you do go here, then you should sit outside. The view of the ocean is beautiful! The drinks here are very good and they have a lot of different choices. The food was a hit or miss. For an appetizer the table had the clams and they were great. They tasted fresh and the sauce they were in was delicious! My entrée, the peel-​and-​eat shrimp, weren’t so good. They were small and didn’t look or taste as fresh as other restaurants in the area.
If I were to come back, I would just go for drinks and apps.

Fantastic Cobia with mangoes was recommended by our waitress Sunny. She was right on it was absolutely amazing!
Also had battered calamari and the batter was light and very delicious. My friend had butterfly shrimp and she especially loved the french fries. Highly recommend and the view is spectacular.

Everything is awesome. Had a little bit of everything but the story here is the conch and blue crab lump Chowder. Nothing here is done lightly.
The drinks are a little expensive but they are stiff. The service is spot on and quick. You will not forget this dining experience. Great.
