Stevens Worldwide Van Lines

Worst company for Customer Service that I have ever dealt with. Among other complaints, they left my generator in my garage in Michigan in December. It is now February. The way this company is dealing with it is by not returning my calls, not responding to my requests, promising to get back to me «…later this afternoon.» With no return call. I will definitely be getting in touch with BBB as soon as I close this review. There lack of response is deplorable.

Worst company I’ve ever worked with. They promise so much. Don’t trust them with your move!

This company was chosen by my agency for a government move.
Everything about this company was horrible. The packers seemed to take immense delight in destroying my things. I found media wires and cables packed with my sweaters and belts. My fedora hat was crumbled since it was packed on top of heavy items. I had a broken picture frame from where they packed pictures so tightly, and in one of those cases there were two in the box with no paper to separate them from being scratched.
The packers also used my hand painted dining room table to wrap things on, including numerous heavy items. I saw them dropping light bulbs on my bedroom chest, went and looked after they left the room, and found dents on the top of the chest. I pointed this out and asked them to be more careful, but it did not faze them.
The packers turned a multifunction color laser printer/​fax/​copier/​scanner that was sitting on top of my file cabinet without picking it up. It weighed about 100 pounds, and it severely gouged the cabinet. It was very obvious, but they left without saying anything. I called them after they left and brought this up, and they nonchalantly told me to file a claim.

Later, I found other gouges and dents in other pieces of furniture. This was all brand new furniture that had never been moved. In addition, the packers didn’t pack everything before they left.
The following day, the movers arrived. During a discussion with the lead mover, I mentioned (when asked) that the TV console had a distressed finish. He attempted to use this quote and apply it to every piece of furniture to eliminate his responsibility for any damage. Everything was written up as having some sort of damage. (Every piece of furniture was new and had no damage.) I initially refused to sign the acknowledgement. However, after discussions with his superiors and the people in my travel office I had to write a disclaimer before signing the forms to allow the moving process to continue.
The lead mover also had a talk with the packers about the damage they did. They had the audacity to blame me and told him that I had to many things piled on top of my pieces of furniture (which wasn’t true anyway). Incredible!
Upon arrival at my new residence, nearly every piece of furniture had damage. Feet were chipped or broken on several pieces. The beveled outline on my coffee table was smashed in like something heavy had been laid on it. Wood trimmings were ripped off. Damages amounted to $ 5400 in repairs and a cash settlement of $ 850, and that’s only what I was able to catch within the 75 days I had to make a claim. I continued to find more damage later when it was too late to add it to the claim.
I did try to file an additional claim after the 75 days. After all, they did pay out around $ 6250 for damages, so they know that they did this additional damage. However, the moving company hid behind technicality and denied the claim. This was even after I had my attorney send them a letter.
The moving company would only guarantee the repairs and its cost if I used their preferred furniture repair company (Pete’s Furniture Repair in Dayton, OH). I knew of a reputable repair company since I had used them before, but they would not pay the price differential. As I am typing this, I am waiting for the repair people to arrive for the fourth time to do rework. Their work is sloppy, rushed, and they don’t pay attention to detail.

I strongly advise that you do not use Steven’s Worldwide Van Lines for your move.

I’ve been in the military for 12 years… worst moving company I have dealt with yet. They lost one of our boxes and damaged some of our household goods. When they finally came to do the adjustment we had pictures of everything as it came off of the truck showing the damaged items. When the adjuster came 4 months later he refused to look at the pictures we had and only wanted to see the items. We had discarded some of the items so they refused to reimburse us for our claim. Some of the pictures showed the Steven’s Van Lines employees carrying our damaged items but they were still denied. Our bed headboard was broken in half and they initially refused to give us a dime for it. After I showed them the pictures of the employees carrying it off the truck in two pieces they agreed to give us $ 150 for a $ 1000 bed. The claim adjuster will not return my phone calls and sends me to her voicemail every time I call. We have been polite and patient but we were still treated poorly. Avoid this company at all costs.

Notice that the responses from this HORRIFIC COMPANY to the reviews on here are all from 2013, from a «business manager» named «Brenda??» No responses to ANY of your complaints AFTER 2013?
What do you want to bet that «Brenda» doesn’t work there anymore?
What all these reviews are trying to say is, you were smart enough to look on here first to avoid these criminals that should lose their business, but are still operating, so pat yourself on the back. My bad for being an Elite Unilocaler and not thinking of looking at all these REALLY BAD reviews first before the bf hired THESE CROOKS!
If you are looking on here AFTER your TERRIBLE experience with them, then you are in similar company at least.
Without getting into all the details that are on here with so many other reviews, my bf moved here from NY last Jan and he is still constantly going…“Oh jeez, where is this thing… where is that thing??” In other words, this piece of shit moving company doesn’t care who they sub contract out to move your precious things. DO NOT HIRE THEM!!!
My bf just showed me the inventory list that they movers gave him… you could not read not even ONE entry on there. It was handwritten and was completely illegible.
And today, Christmas Eve, it was tough to hear him say…“It sucks that I’m missing all those great Xmas glasses I had for over 30 yrs.” Does it matter that these items didn’t cost much when he purchased them? No, only that they held so many memories that we know can never be replaced.
Missing also are many of his sketch books… he’s a professional illustrator and will never be able to recover them. MEMORIES LOST… DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!
There is a reason they still get a good rating on the Better Business Bureau web site. Because I’m betting that many on here writing these bad reviews, did NOT report them to the BBB. They get an A+ on their web site! What!!! Only 11 complaints and all solved!
People, you HAVE to report them to the BBB in your area. Complaining on Unilocal is not enough. While many people do see the reviews and it can potentially be harmful to the company, you get more results by going to the BBB.

The initial loading crew was very rough with my furniture. They did not wrap large furniture pieces until they were loaded in the truck, subjecting them to the careless handling along the way.
When my furniture and goods were unloaded at new location, the new crew brought in 3 – 4 boxes and pieces at a time. While trying to check them off a list, it was impossible to check the quality of the items when they arrived. In less than a week, after unpacking I noticed several damaged items. Deep grooves were in my wooden tv console and the doors were broken on a glass front book case. I am also missing 2 boxes.
Stevens absolved themselves of all damages, except I received a check for $ 9.00 for missing g wheels on 2 roll carts.
Stevens stated that since I didn’t catch the damage when my items were delivered, they are not responsible.
As to my missing 2 boxes, they disagree and said everything was delivered. I numbered every box in every room prior to their loading. I wanted to keep track of my items too, and kept a log.
I will NEVER recommend or use Stevens Van Lines ever. You are taking a very big and dissatisfying risk if you do.

I was given stevens for my military PCS. (Permanent Change of Station). The people that packed were about the best this company had to offer. The had a second group of people do the loading. They were a few hours late saying there was a mix up in the paperwork. So then they started rushing and broke my desk before they even got everything loaded. They ripped a door off its hinges and scratched my hardwood floor. I own that house I had to leave. So I had to repair it myself seeing as how I was leaving in 2 days to drive to Millington, TN from Virginia Beach, VA. I didn’t repair the floor. It’s just scratched now. The company asks me if I will take my goods on Labor day. I agree to it. They tell me on the paperwork that I need to be available between 0800 – 1700. They tell me my things will arrive between 08 – 10. Sunday night the driver calls and says he hit construction and would be late. Between 10 – 11. Mind you I made this drive twice in. A week because I have 2 vehicles and did a partial move myself. I know how long it takes to include hauling a trailer loaded with 3000lbs with my 99 dodge ram. It took me 15.5 hours (I didn’t stop to sleep) to get to the final destination. Anyway at 1130 the driver calls me again to sat he got pulled over by a state trooper on the highway 100 miles out and he is receiving a random truck inspection. Finally at 1430 I get a call to escort them onto base. This company is paid by the military to pack, load, transport, unload and unpack our belongings. He didn’t want to do that either. And when I said they had to unpack this guy took all the boxes not labeled for dishes and dumped them upside down. I posted all the photos. I have a large bookcase broken two small shelves broken, a desk broken harware missing and there are piles of things on top of each other to sort through for me to get through the entire claims process. They ran out of floor room and didn’t finish unpacking everything. They left around 2100 because I couldn’t take anymore and they kept asking to leave. When handed me the paperwork he wrote «unpacked to satisfaction» and asked me to initial it. I one lined satisfaction and wrote in «If by ‘unpacked’ you mean boxed dumped on the floor in the wrong room, then yes ‘unpacked’». I’ve called to complain. I will be filing a grievance and clearly claiming all damaged or lost/​missing property.

My experience with Stevens Van Lines in my recent move has not been the best. I expected much better from a mover of this scale.
I recently moved from NY to TX and I will just highlight my pros and cons about the whole experience:
PROS:
1. My household stuff was picked up on the day promised. I just had to remind them a couple of days before the scheduled date and they confirmed that everything is set.
2. At the destination, all boxes and furniture was received. Nothing lost. They had professionally put numbers on each box and furniture parts and provided me a copy of that list. As per the contract, at the destination, the furniture was assembled by them and it was done professionally.
3. There was no major damage to furniture during move except for a minor dent on my dresser handle and one of my two nightstand lamps had some damage. Otherwise everything looked good.
CONS:
1. The shipment was delivered 12 days after the last delivery date. I gave a call to their customer support number a couple of days before the scheduled delivery date and I was told that the shipment was still in NY and didn’t even get loaded.
2. There seemed to be a lack of communication within the company as during the course of time I got different information from their local rep in NY and their customer support on phone. I had no clue of where my shipment was.
3. The online tracking on their website does not work.
4. When the last delivery date passed as well, I called their local rep in NY and also their customer support advocate, however, they both initially told me that the shipment is delayed and they are trying to expedite. However, it never happened and when I called them the next day, they didn’t answer my phone or return my calls or emails. I called them several times over the next 2 – 3 days but none of my calls were answered. This was really frustrating for me.
5. After several attempts to get hold of them, I was finally told by customer support that my stuff will be loaded at the end of the week (past the committed final date) because they need to load two other shipments in the same Semi and they have some delays there. Also they have no driver going that route. What is this? Why was this not informed to me at the time of quote? At the time I was promised a date and I planned accordingly. Now they are telling me it is not possible?
6. I was told that I will be given a copy of my actual shipment weight (because the payment was on actual weight). I never got any update on that until I received the shipment.
In summary, I had to spend 2 weeks at my new home without any furniture or household stuff because of this delay from Stevens and their lack of communication and I found their customer support and their communication during the move process very very lousy.
I would not move with Stevens again!

Stephens was recommended to us by our employers, but we had a very bad experience with them. The crew that uploaded in Chicago was managed by a guy who was trying to take care of us, but his workers started ignoring him because they were in a hurry. And they labeled things so poorly we had immense trouble finding things upon our move. So our things did not get packed as they should have been. That was bad enough, but then the Tulsa crew dumped our possessions in our new house so haphazardly that they got out of our house before I could even come back with lunch for them. I went on an errand before getting lunch and, during those two hours, they proceeded to ramrod everything in, ignoring/​disregarding my wife’s attempts to get them to slow down and put things where they needed to be. We then registered our complains with the company, but didn’t get any response. They had gotten their money and didn’t didn’t care about the mess they left when they basically just dumped everything into our garage as soon as I left that morning. We lodged a complaint, but never got a response from the company. We’ve had much better moves with other companies.

BUYER BEWARE OF STEVENS WORLDWIDE MOVING!
Our experience with Stevens is an ongoing practical and legal nightmare, now in its 3^rd month, delivery still not completed, goods lost, others horribly damaged, even as Stevens keeps running up more charges against our credit card accounts without our authorization. Now Stevens is sending us forged and altered documents in order to try to bill us even more. Think I’m exaggerating?
We contracted with «Chris’ Moving Men» who explained an interstate move is billed by the weight of the load with a locked rate. We would be dealing with him but the move across the state line was being «umbrella-​ed» by Stevens.
The key to this whole deal was that the moving company was contractually bound to weigh the truck empty and re-​weigh it loaded.
The moving Company told us Stevens needed a credit card to hold the booking. But explicitly said that the credit card was not to be charged until delivery was completed and final billing.
June 1 the movers showed up, on schedule. The driver — said that he had plenty of room for our stuff. But, that night, his truck was full, even though our most important items — our bed, medical stuff, clothing, office stuff, washing machine, and other vital day-​to-​day stuff — had not been loaded. We were told that a 2^nd truck would come the next day and that all our delivery would completed on June 4, as planned.
Without our permission and without telling us, Stevens rang up more than $ 18,000 on our credit card accounts on or about June 3, before any delivery or any billing was made.
The first truck arrived a day late, on June 5, and delivered broken furniture, damaged art and items missing. Our refrigerator was beaten up, and its handles gone. If a packaged crate said «TOP» & «THIS SIDE UP» & «FRAGILE!», the unloading crew would fling it and pile other stuff on top of it. Whenever we would complain, we would be cursed at. And the driver would randomly but constantly berate the military and rant about how much he hated them as customers because they were too critical of his treatment of their goods.
Truck 2 left our home on June 2 and did not arrive until June 30 (which was 26 days later than contract and 22 days later than the drop dead deadline to which Stevens was contractually bound).
Stevens kept up a constant bait-​and-​switch for the month. So, we slept on the floor or a sofa and hand washing our 3 days’ worth of clothes in the kitchen sink.
Stevens breach of contract were both profit-​based business decisions. They intentionally held up the shipment in LA, waiting to add other customers to the load.
The June 30 delivery was incomplete because many of our things are still missing. More damage was done by the movers to our goods, as well as our home.
After contacting credit card companies to dispute charges Stevens sent a bill. To prove up the weight of the first truck Stevens provided a scanned copy of a weight scale receipt which is unsigned AND which has hand-​written alterations of the truck’s ID numbers AND which has a pre-​printed legend that it CANNOT be used for legal trade in California! The weight scale company CATScale told my husband that this is an invalid receipt, period, the end. Then Stevens provided us a scanned copy of another CATScale receipt, supposedly for the fully laden truck the night of June 1. This receipt is signed, but it also states it is not for legal trade, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, the truck’s ID numbers have been altered in handwriting.
The point is that the hand-​written alterations attempt to match up the ID numbers even though the CATScale-​printed numbers UNQUESTIONABLY show different numbers for the trucks on each receipt, respectively. To me and my husband and our lawyer, all this is Stevens attempting to falsify the weight of this load. Why? Do we assume it is just to collect more money, to make up for what Stevens will have to eventually pay us for the damaged and lost goods and other claims? Or could it be the driver never bothered to weigh the truck at all?
Stevens sent us copies of various documents signed by my husband during the move. Only these copies have been altered by Stevens AFTER my husband signed them.
In mid-​July, we were put us in touch with someone at Stevens known to be a customer-​oriented problem solver. She told us to fill out claim forms and that she would shepherd everything along in all haste. We thought we found help, but as previous posts by other unhappy Stevens’ customers have stated, this person pays lip service and then does nothing, we were not even able to confirm receipt of claims. The only two things thisperson did was (1) tell us that we owed no more money, only to then send a $ 3,600 bill (2) to send out an appraiser who arrived weeks later, and he leveled with us that what Stevens does is find ways not to repair or replace things (for example, he told us there’s no way they will fix our fridge or buy us the missing handles removed and lost by them.)

The significant negative in using this company was the agent from the company that was sub-​contracted in Portland, Oregon. Company literature that should have been provided to me up front at their first meeting was not provided; incorrect information was given to me; I just got the impression the person in question could care less, and certainly didn’t have her job as a priority. It was so bad that somehow (I learned from the driver who did the delivery, who was excellent along with his staff) the Portland company supposedly organizing all this somehow ended up sending a second truck and driver to pick up my stuff — one day after it had all been picked up! Pretty weird set-​up. Stevens said they’d ask for a review from me as a customer, but they never followed up on that either. So, here we go!

I’d give them NO stars if I could. Dealing with these people was the biggest hassle I’ve had so far in my 26 years of life. I didn’t have any grey hairs until Stevens Worldwide moved my things. Their communication between each other was remarkably terrible, and nearly cost me a few hundred dollars. The damage to my goods that they moved was quite high, hundreds of dollars worth! However all they said they could cover was 110 dollars.
Best advice from me would be to keep on moving and don’t fork over another dollar to this company, save yourself the trouble!

Our experience with Stevens Worldwide was top notch from beginning to end. The agent we worked with was the most detailed in going through the house and coming up with a quote which gave us confidence that the final number would be accurate. In fact, the estimate ended up being higher than expected, so our final cost was over $ 1000 less than expected. And the driver got out stuff to our house 2 days earlier than expected, with no significant damage.
All in all it was a terrific experience and we would highly recommend Stevens.

VERY displeased with this company. I was told that payment upon delivery was accepted, and until the very last minute when they have my PERSONAL items that I MUST pay before the shipment is sent out. Frankly, this lie made me very upset. I contacted the moving agent to which she said that I have to pay before because it is an ‘economical’ delivery which sounds like some bullshit made up excuse.
Later on, I decided to contact the headquarters and I was connected to someone who had a really awful attitude. I gave her my name, and I was not in the system. I spelled my name out for her as well as my mother’s and we were NOT in the system.
Needless to say I am VERY angry at how I was lied to right in front of my face then being told this excuse when I questioned the moving agent why I was told I have to pay before shipment when I was told by the exact same moving agent that I can pay upon delivery.
I will definitely not recommend this company to anyone. They’re a load of bullshit. I don’t get how you can expect to run a successful company if you’re lying to your customers that are trusting these people to handle their items.

Stevens moving has moved one of my family members on 2 separate occasions. Once in MI and the other in FL. Both times the service has been excellent.
They were quick, efficient and their quote was on par with their competitors.
Nothing was broken during the move, and the movers were courteous and professional.
I would definitely have them handle my next move.

I had a terrific move with Stevens Worldwide. They check in before the move, during the move and after. I had 2 damages– 1 very minor and the other, a bent table leg, investigated quickly. The weather was bad and the driver called to keep us informed.
This company was excellent and I intend to use them on the next move next year.

13 military moves in 19 years… Stevens was THE WORST!!!
I am very disappointed in Stevens, who claimed not be responsible for obvious damage. An arm broken completely off a chair and wrapped separately is pretty egregious. Multiple items broken and missing. I guess that is not surprising when prescription drugs are stolen and consumed during the pickup, my house was damaged, and a driver was very disrespectful to my wife. The inventory person put every letter of the alphabet on every item to shirk any responsibility during transit.
Also, my goods were stored in Massachusetts when they were supposed to be delivered and stored in the DC area. That was NEVER communicated until after the fact!
Item #1, a large sofa, didn’t make it on the truck and had to have a separate delivery. It was left in Massachusetts!
Terrible customer service… they use subcontractors and can’t manage simple logistics or responding to issues. Unprofessional– do not use!

This is an update in regards to my review I posted on ⁹⁄₂₅. I followed the instructions to call Stevens Van Lines again after posting my review only to have to explain my entire situation over again. My «claim» was elevated by Robin Gacek only to have Judy Butler write to me again telling me my inconvenience claim was denied, again. I wrote back stating I had not called in requesting my claim be re-​evaluated but simply because I was instructed to because of my Unilocal review and I was seeking compensation due to the complete lack of customer service I received by Stevens. Yet again, I am left disheartened by Stevens.

Our moving saga began over a month ago. As of today, July 18, 2013, we are still going through the claims process but because this is a military move, we file our claims with the base moving office. To begin…
Stevens inventoried our house and estimated us at having 12,000 pounds of household goods. On the first day of packing up, ONE guy shows up. We’ve moved from CA to VT, VT to NC, NC to CA, and now CA to FL and this is the first time we’ve ever only had one packer. This led to a two day packing process.
On the day of loading, they didn’t bring a truck big enough to hold our stuff despite the fact that we ended up with less than 10,000 pounds when they were expecting 12,000. They drove off on June 12 with about ¼ of our stuff hanging out the back of the truck and strapped on within an inch of its life. Turns out, it was only going to a storage facility anyway which wasn’t something we had expected or planned for since we had given Stevens a destination address.
Our first load of goods wasn’t delivered until June 24 even though we arrived at our new house on June 17. Then, we find out when this delivery was being made, not before, that they couldn’t fit all of our stuff on the truck so some of it was still in storage. This first delivery, my 1-​year-​old sofa has been damaged, a wooden piece of furniture was missing a chunk of wood, and the boxes were packed in ways that made absolutely no sense at all. The delivery guy tells us that we should hear from Stevens in the next day or so about scheduling our overflow delivery.
A week later on July 1, *I* finally call to see where the heck our stuff is. Our so-​called coordinator didn’t know. She didn’t even know what state our stuff was in. She finally lets us know that it’s still in California and is going to be CRATED AND SHIPPED to Florida. On July 10, she calls to let me know that our stuff has arrived in Florida but won’t be delivered until July 18. This is FIVE WEEKS AND ONE DAY after the truck pulled away from the curb in California.
Our overflow drivers arrived today and offloaded the rest of our furniture. Some of that furniture is damaged beyond repair and MISSING. We’re missing a drawer to a bookcase, a box of DVDs and some bedding. My daughter’s bicycle is also missing a brake line. Figure that one out.
Not one time in all the five weeks we’ve been going through this nightmare has the moving coordinator ever expressed remorse for the terrible customer service we’ve been subjected to. Not once have we gotten an explanation for why this move was drawn out over five weeks. The guy from today actually assumed this was an overseas move since it took so long and since our stuff was being delivered out of crates. Not one time have we gotten an apology. Aside from the missing items and damage, we’ve had an extraordinary amount of out-​of-​pocket expense because the delivery has taken so long. Some things you can do without for a few days or even a week, but not five weeks. Bed linens, towels, pots and pans, lawn mower (we live in Florida for pete’s sake), etc.
Stevens has no idea what good customer service is or professionalism. Looking at the other reviews, you also don’t know how to listen and make improvements. Just so you know, replying back to an online review with a form comment is impersonal, inappropriate, and a slap in the face. I will be complaining long and loud to TMO in hopes that you lose your contract with the military. You should be ashamed of how you treat paying customers in general and military families specifically. I bet you can figure out where I would suggest you could put your form comment to this review…

In the words of a previous reviewer, «Don’t do it!» They hire day labor to care for all of your worldly possessions, as well as unscrupulous, dishonest and manipulative drivers, and the account manager we had was absolutely worthless. We have thousands of dollars of damage to our goods that they refused to pay claims on because we did not report the damage prior the driver leaving, when the driver specifically told us, in no uncertain terms, that we could take our time and do so after he left. In doing so, he completely released himself from any responsibility or liability and excused the company from any legal responsibility as well. Also, our delivery was days late due to «mechanical problems» which just happened to have occurred near the driver’s home. Yes, lesson learned, but I’m not interested in becoming an expert on the ins and outs of the legality of moving. Have subsequently used another company for a local move and it was like night and day. After several professional moves, this is without a doubt the worst ever.
