Practically Pikasso

Hosted my bridal shower here & had such a great time! Staff members were so nice and helpful to all of my guests we thoroughly enjoyed our time!

PP is one of those places that you go to with a bunch of girls! You decide on a theme and get creative! OR you take some rowdy kids of yours and create a family masterpiece!‍How about a party? How fun!
I’ve been in an group of women and I’ve been with my boys. I’m very artistic and creative but my boys not so much. Luckily they don’t have to be! There are so many examples to be inspired by, there are books and people to help you out. If you are there at a time when it’s busy the help can be a little hard to get but with some patience you will. This is the type of place that you don’t go if you’re in a rush.
Time to create a masterpiece! Themes are the best for a big group. Somethings you all have in common, what brought you there? Maybe the love of a movie, flower, song, cause (cancer, diabetes, MS…) or maybe you each want to create your own. Anything goes it’s your creation. This place is great for Christmas gifts with all grandma’s grandchildren creating a platter, bowl, mug or each their own little gift.
If something goes wrong or you notice something mention it. The owner and workers are very nice and wiling to help fix the issue. There is no reason to walk out with something you didn’t want, they will help! Great staff! Helpful and friendly! The store is clean, bright, happy and on hot summer days… cool too!

I was lured into Practically Pikasso because an artsy friend of mine who used to work here recently gave me a gift card for Christmas. I have an infant and the purpose of the gift card was so I could get some artwork done with her hand and foot prints as memorabilia of her teeny tiny self.
I’m not «artsy» by any means so I was unsure of what to expect from my experience here. Alas I stopped by on a quiet Friday afternoon and rolled up my sleeves to get to work. You could easily miss PP if you blink. It’s right on main street in safety harbor but I passed it twice while looking for it, because it is on the second floor of the strip plaza along main street and there’s no obvious sign. Don’t forget to look up if you’re driving by searching for this place.
They offer painting of a variety of pottery pieces from little trinkets like coffee mugs and ballerina knick knacks to large plates in many shapes. You can also do canvas painting here. My friend had given me a heart shaped plate along with a gift card that covers the $ 7.50 studio fee so I was all set to go. They offer many private party options as well as camps for kids here too.
When I walked in I was greeted by a hot wave of stale air and a timid gal behind the register. She was the only one on staff during my visit. I explained my purpose and goal for being there, but also advised her that I was a total blank slate and needed some inspiration. She provided me with a few books that showed endless examples of various options just for baby themed prints. After reviewing my options for a few minutes I chose a cute owl theme pattern and was ready to start. However being that I’m not very artsy as I mentioned, I was hoping for a bit more guidance and assistance. Considering I was the only person there throughout my whole visit, I had thought she’d help more. Despite my subtle pleas, she only came by occasionally to check in when I called for help after making a couple of «boo boos» during the painting process. She was a really sweet person, but very quiet and I felt as though I had to really work to pull any help out of her. The whole process of painting my piece layer by layer took about 2 hours, which was likely prolonged by the fact that I was trying to keep my baby entertained while also working on my piece. It was stifling hot in there which turned the enjoyable factor down down a notch. Either the AC didn’t work or they just didn’t have it on. Besides that, it was a relaxing and fun experience. By the near end of my visit I was really getting into it. Finally after my work was done, I brought it up to be finalized. She told me it’d take about about a week to fire in the kiln and be ready for pick up. I haven’t gone to get it yet but loon forward to doing so soon.
Overall my experience was okay. Could have been improved if the employee was more hands on and helpful. I think I’m comparing this to my recent experience where we did wine and canvas painting at a nearby art studio for a Unilocal event. The artist there was an entertainer, very outgoing, funny and helpful, so I was hoping for the same from this. Also would be nice if they offered simple snacks and refreshments for purchase to enhance the visit. However I did enjoy myself and would consider going back again for another special occasion.

Lovely place with great staff. The first time I visited was with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We decided to go pottery painting and called a couple of places to check. One place (in Lutz) we called was very strict about the last walk in time, and we were not sure if we could make it by then, we chose to go to Practically Pikasso (Safety Harbour). And we’re so glad we did. The lady Dara, working that that day allowed us to stay and finish our pottery for almost 30min beyond the store closing time. The best part being, not once did she come to remind us or hurry us up, which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. Thanks Dara! Appreciate it.
Went there again with my daughter, different staff, but same great experience.
There is no studio fee, the whole of this year I was told. The choice of pottery probably could be better. Can’t compare that or the price since this is the only place I have been to.
