A Degree Above Heating & Cooling

Wanted so much to give Lou and his team a 5. I believe that Lou himself certainly is a 5 star, it’s because of his «team» that I lowered my rating of the business.
My previous experience with Lou was during the previous winter. Lou had come by the home as we were having some issues with heat output. He diagnosed the issue, which was not the heater, but as simple as the vents being closed. Offered to still pay him for his time, he declined. Extremely professional and looks out for the customer. Lou himself is superb and fantastic. Again 5 star experience that time.
A few weeks ago, I was having some issues with my thermostat, so naturally I called A Degree Above. Spoke with Lou who walked me through some troubleshooting items to see if we could get the issue resolved without him having to come out and charge me a fee. He suggested this — again was looking out for me, can’t applaud him enough. Last tip required 2 people to test, so told him I’d wait for my wife to be available to try it out and if I still have an issue, will call him back.
Tested, and still had a problem requiring his help. Called back, spoke with «his team» — whoever answered the phone, was asked to be put on hold, was on hold for over 15 mins, no check-​in or anything. Hung up and tried calling again, no answer, left msg requesting callback. A week later, no response. Call again and leave msg, speak with same person as before, am told he was busy, will take msg. Call again a week later, spoke with same team member, was told he would call me back sometime later in the day, I had to suggest to the person that they take my number and address info. No call that evening, I call back and leave a msg. Next day, wait until late morning, still no response so call the office and again speak with that same person. Ask when I might get a call back, am told Lou is busy, he is booked for the next 2 weeks, not sure when he will speak/​see Lou. His team — essentially whoever answers the phone leaves a lot to be desired.
**** Another note: Lou stated to me before that he isn’t knowledgeable about the Nest Thermostats. He didn’t feel comfortable with them. Not sure if that played a factor in my experience. Not sure if that is the case with all «smart» thermostats or not. What I found surprising, was that it was not an issue with the heater/​ac, but getting power to the thermostat, which regardless of whether it was a «smart» thermostat or not, shouldn’t be a problem for an HVAC specialist. Guess we’ll never know as I called another company who although was busy, said they would make time to come by later today. A separate review will likely be forthcoming for them later.

This may be a bit late, but well worth my time writing.
Nothing but rave reviews for Lou and his team. We were in need of a new boiler, and when he arrived to provide an estimate, he was very friendly, knowledgeable and open. In comparison to what the other vendors offered, he was very reasonably priced.
Since the installation in December 2015, everything has been working pretty well!
What we did want to mention more specifically though was the inspection process. According to our town, this was the first time they logged the company into their system. When the inspectors came (three different people) and reviewed Lou’s work, they all asked about the company. They were impressed by the job! Everything was so clean and organized. And of course, it passed inspection.
We really appreciate the smooth process in getting this done and Lou’s open and honest approach. We will definitely look to A Degree Above again for our heating and cooling needs.

After getting ripped off before i decided to go with Unilocal reviews and i was pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the price was fair. I will retain their services as well as refer them to people i know.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would… this was such a great experience from start to finish.
Lou was extremely professional and caring, he came recommended to me and I called with of course an emergency. He came right away and took care of the problem perfectly. Then low and behold a few days later I had another emergency (something different) and he handled that perfectly also. I am truly happy to have found such a professional company that I will recommend to any one who needs their services. Thank you to Lou and your very professional team. You are the BEST!!!

I am a new home owner that inherited a almost 30 year old hvac system when I bought my place. Fast forward 2 years later… My heater starts blowing cold air mid winter. Lou and his team checked out our system and figured out that our 30 yeAr old system is shot beyond repair. They installed anew system with the most impeccable time management system because my husband had a very specific schedule. I appreciate Lou and his company because they understand your needs and our capabilities. I recommend them for any hvac needs and I’ll be calling them for anything in the future.

The first time I called my heat had stopped working. They had someone out within the hour who was able to identify and fix the problem. Pricing was good — can’t complain. I had a problem a week later (different issue) and they came out again in the window promised and fixed it for us while also teaching my husband how to trouble shoot in the future. The service is amazing and honest. I would recommend them anytime and will definitely be using them for my future needs.

I have been procrastinating for 2 weeks not to call anyone to fix my heater. My heater has been blowing cool air, and I have been dependent on the warm weather to heat my house. Then I woke up this morning with icicles on my face. My family were wearing jackets inside the house. It was 50 deg ferenheit inside my room. I finally went online and called Lou from A Degree Above. Within 45 minutes, he was knocking at my door. Less than an hour later, the heater was actually blowing heat! Two hours later, my house was a tropical paradise! I was anxious to be charged an arm a leg for the job. I thought I had to rob a bank to pay him, but Lou gave me a very affordable price. I was totally relieved, and very warm. Thank you for everything, Lou!

If I could give Lou and his crew at A Degree Above 10 stars I would. They did an excellent job installing a new unit for us that produces radiant heat.
Working with them was an absolute pleasure. They are polite, knowledgeable and extremely reliable. From little things to protecting our floors to being available for questions any time we needed them it was A+ customer service every step of the way.
It is so rare to find someone as nice, patient and honest as Lou and his team and the end product of their work was exactly what we wanted. Amazing service!!! Finding a quality HVAC tech is tough. Lou who is the owner/​tech for the company is simply amazing. I have a new construction home, bought from a builder that loves to take shortcuts. Lou did a thorough and quality assessment of my HVAC equipment/​troubleshooting system. Lou is very personable and HONEST. He will patiently explain things so one would understand. He charges fairly for what he does and he is also very reasonable.
They always shows up on time and are neat with their work. He has helped me trouble shoot my HVAC twice this year and i will be calling him for his service for winter service.

Let me start by saying I’m not one for reviews .this is actually my 1^st review on Unilocal and this is how much I was impressed with this Co… I opened up a Unilocal account for it .
I did a search online and found them online with great Unilocal reviews and decided to call them. Anthony answered and was really nice and told me that he didn’t have anyone avail for today but that that the next day Lou would be able to cone out as they were doing an AC install. I understood especially on short notice.
My wife got a call at 6pm from Lou saying he ended his install a little early and that he could cone out if we wanted (which was an obvious yes)
Lou came over and was able to quickly issue his diagnosis and fox the problems quickly. He mentioned to me that when he was done with his instal he saw that je had the appt for the next morning but didn’t k ow if the person was old or if it was an emergency or not and took the extra time to just get it done (and me and my wife are grateful for that) they were polite, professional but what counts the most is HONEST .I’m in a service business myself and know how a few shady business can shadow the good guys and glad I was able to find these guys as they are truly the good guys. …i only have a few years left in these units but when they do go .I know who going to call

I’m very happy with the high-​quality work done by A Degree Above in installing a replacement condenser and air handler.
A good friend, who used to work with Lou, the owner of A Degree Above, recommended him because «he does a great job installing the equipment» and the installation is key to having the system perform well over a long period of time.
For the estimate and the installation, they showed up at the agreed time and went about their business until the job was completed. The workers were polite and helpful when answering questions and explaining various issues. They were diligent about laying down material to protect the floors & stairs and careful not to nick the walls when carrying the equipment up the stairs and they quickly cleaned up any dirt from drilling or cutting materials.
Their installation quote was the lowest and the brand they used is well-​respected with good reviews on-​line.
And, I noticed just now, they even registered the products with the manufacturer to qualify us for the manufacturer’s warranty. Saves me the effort to do it. I like this.

So sorry I have to update my original review, but a lot has happened since then. In figuring out what would be the best investment for our needs and budget, was left out in the cold when we never got our quote. Finally, went elsewhere, got our quote everything being installed this week. Too bad, we really liked Lou.

About 1 month ago when the weather began to become abnormally hot and we had to run our air conditioner constantly, we realized that although we had set the air to 69 – 70 it was only reaching about 73 and on occasion warmer. We knew something was wrong. Being new to the area we had no idea who to call. After using Unilocal to find some local companies A DEGREE ABOVE had nothing but good reviews. They absolutely lived up to their status. Lou and his son came by and we’re both professional and personable. They performed a great job with no bull and in a timely manor. Our system is running fantastic and our house is ice cold (now my wife isn’t happy hahaha) thanks again guys ! Glad to now have a company we can trust. We will recommend them to all our neighbors and friends.

A couple months ago, upon the discovery of my furnace missing a filter slot, I scrambled high and low to find someone in Bergen county to fix this. I was not having much luck as some had long waiting lists and some don’t handle stuff like this. Luckily I came across A Degree Above through Unilocal (where else?)
Lou and Danny were great, they dropped in that day that worked for me to take a look at it even though they were booked that day. They took their time explaining the many options, how the airducts worked and even pointed out how so some pipes of the furnace was not right but it’s a easy fix. They were not pushy at all and took extreme care in taking down or measurements. They then told us they’ll send us an estimate in a few days after looking into the best option for us. Danny sent our quote and proposal the next business day. Their prices were pretty reasonable and they even told us we didn’t have to go with the most expensive option.
2weeks later, they came in, got the job done (neat and quick) and fixed the pipes free. I am happy with their service and I feel even happier now breathing dust free air!
