The Inn & Spa at Parkside

After much research for a place to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, my wife and I found this GEM!
First off, booking was super easy as I was given great detail and answers to all my questions and was able to book our perfect stay!
We couldn’t have asked for more… Greeted at the door, offered wine and beer in the lounge, the room (passion) was beautiful and the bed and tub made it all worth it! The breakfast was delicious and our massages were the perfect way to end a perfect stay. All the staff was so accommodating and friendly it really was hard to leave! We enjoyed every second and can’t wait to come back and experience all the rooms!

My husband and I stayed here for one night as a staycation for his birthday. This place is beautiful! Somehow I had reserved the wrong room and they were able to switch it for me at the last minute with no trouble at all. The Dream room was beautiful. All details were taken care of: wine & champagne glasses in the room, candles ready to go, bath salts on the edge of the spa, etc. The room was large, clean, and tastefully decorated.
We loved the HUGE shower in the bathroom with water spouts on the wall and on the ceiling. The jacuzzi tub fits 2 people very comfortably and filled up quickly. We explored the grounds and couldn’t believe that such a relaxing retreat was tucked away in the heart of Sacramento.
Breakfast the following morning was delicious. We had fruit with croissants followed by a spicy bean and pepper egg scramble with potatoes and sausage. It was a quick, romantic stay but we both felt like honeymooners again. We cannot wait to return again on the next special occasion.

I booked a get away for my husband and I and we wanted something local.
Massages– I give the massages we had, 3 stars. Not the best couples massage I have ever had but not horrible either. Our massage room was in the second building and my main complaint was that it was loud in the hallway. We could hear people talking, coming and going. We had a body salt scrub and were walked up to our room. I didn’t mind that we had our romantic baths in our own room, but it would have been nice if there were a bubble bath poured instead of us having to fill the bath ourselves. So the spa part was just okay.
Bed and Breakfast– As far as the B&B part. 5 stars, everything was wonderful. We booked the Dream room and I would highly recommend that room because of the privacy and it’s on it’s floor. The bathroom was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. No complaints there except for do not expect a balcony or a view. We received a late check out and got to sleep in. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. We were served yogurt and a cinnamon roll, then eggs, bacon and potatoes. Kyle served us drinks the night before and was very nice. We’d love to stay again.
Elena served us breakfast and made my reservations. She’s an absolute sweetheart!

The worst! What a rip off! The pictures are majorly deceiving! The rooms are old, the place is loud, The staff is non existent. We first checked in too our «mansion suite» or whatever they call it. The room was ok but the bathroom was so old and gross! It had this tiny old shower and the shower head barely worked and dribbled water. Due to the basically non working shower head, I new I would cut the shower short, but it ended up being much shorter than I anticipated! I ran out of hot water in about 8 min! At this point I sat on the bed to try and warm up and it’s the old squeaky piece of junk, not only can you hear the bed in your room, but you can here every squeak and every age and every voice in the building! At this point we called the front desk explained what was happening and asked if they had any other rooms, perhaps newer rooms in a quieter area. She was kind enough to direct Us to another building which at the time seemed much nicer and quieter. We changed room… 45 seconds later, they charge us for the difference but whatever, room seemed more what we were looking for, yet still a bizarre set up. Long story short, in the middle of the night, the toilet randomly flooded the room. We used all towels and bathrobes in the room to soak up water. First thing in the morning, around 9am we call the reception to get towels so that we can shower and get the heck out of here! No one answers, we leave message, 30 min later no one brings towels or calls back. So I call again and leave and press their «emergency» prompt and leave a VM explaining the flooding and the need for towels as we much be at a meeting at UC Davis at 10:30. No ones answers or brings towels… We shower and air dry, huddled around the tiny space heater they provide for you in the room. Right as we are about to leave, some young guy walks up and hands us a towel… This place has an adorable concert and idea, however, it’s so poorly run and executed. On the exit, my husband explain to the gentleman who brought us towels what happened. He apologized but said there’s nothing he can do. My husband asked for the owner/​manager to phone us, well it’s been 4 days now, no call no acknowledgment! Really dispicable! Do NOT STAY HERE!

Sacramento features some decent lodging options, but there isn’t exactly a surfeit of «personal touch» places to stay. Needing a place that brought decent location (close to downtown and freeways) and quiet, I spent several nights at the Parkside Inn, and was extremely impressed.
First off, there have been several owners over the years here, so staying here now is probably a much different experience than, say, three or more years ago. It’s an older house that’s been fixed up considerably by Kyle, the current owner/​innkeeper, but it still retains a lot of its original charm. I stayed in the «Tranquility» room, which indeed provided tranquility. The bed is super comfortable, the pillows ample in size and quantity. The bathroom is amazingly complete, with dual showers, a jacuzzi tub, and modern fixtures. The room itself is simple, but the inclusion of a small refrigerator was ideal for my longer stay, and there is plenty of room to put away clothes. There is a microwave close by, ice machine downstairs, and pretty much everything you need for comfort.
Kyle apparently acquired a cool wooden bar and is serving wine and beer around 5 PM, and I had the good fortune of spending time with him and his wife until late in the evening before I left. They’re good people; they also hire good people, like Jenny and Brianne, who also make the breakfasts, which are HUGE and extremely tasty. There’s a general kindness going around here, which during a fairly intense week, was greatly appreciated.
I didn’t check out the spa, but probably would next time around. In terms of specific location and nearby amenities, I mentioned how close Parkside Inn is to the freeway and downtown, but the street itself is very quiet and a good place for a walk. The area itself isn’t glitzy, but feels safe and you can find a convenience store two blocks away, as well as a great coffee place about 4 blocks away (Insight Coffee Roasters). If you want to venture further, there is a grocery/​dim sum place (Lam Kwong Market) with amazing, inexpensive hot food, including a pork bun for just over a buck that is terrific.
It’s easy to caught up in the hype of a place and give it five stars — but the Parkside Inn just brought me peace and relaxation for a few days, great conversation with people who are really neat folks, and all the amenities I needed to enjoy my home away from home. It worked on all counts. I’ll definitely be back.

If you are looking for lack of communication and demanding inn keepers come here!!! My boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxing getaway from our busy work schedules so we decided to the Inn at Parkside. We got off to a rocky start when the first inn keeper left us in the wrong room. We were putting away our things when she knocked on the door to tell us we had to move rooms. Next we get led to a different room and it’s overwhelmingly hot. We tried to call the room number several times but could not get past an answering machine. My boyfriend had to go to the other building and find her. She then came up, completely clueless, and her solution to the heat was to have my boyfriend get up on a ladder and close the heat vent himself… Okay??? Customer service strike number two?
We also requested a massage from two females the following morning. The next morning a male and female came to our door as the ones who would be massaging us. We politely declined. Several minutes later Jenny, the inn keeper came upstairs and knocked aggressively on our door demanding us to pay for the service. I quickly stated I would absolutely not pay for a service I didn’t want or receive. We checked out and about a half hour later the inn owner called and continued to lecture us on whether or not we requested females or not.
Overall it was completely ridiculous and I will not be referring this inn to anyone nor will I be returning.
Take my advice and don’t come here!!!

My Wife and I stayed in the Happiness suite for our wedding weekend (3 nights) and it was truly amazing! Upon our arrival, Kyle greeted us with smiles and a complimentary beer for myself, a glass of wine for my Wife, and a tour of the historical Fong Mansion and grounds. We knew instantly that we were in for a treat. Kyle has an amazing «southern hospitality» that is rarely seen anywhere on the west coast, which is very refreshing on its own. Kyle made sure to make us feel welcomed and «at home».
The Happiness suite was unbelievable! From the deco to the lush amenities, this room is beyond perfect for a romantic getaway. The oversized jetted tub is too much fun! Just wait until you see this room light up at night… stunning! Be wary if you are over 6′ tall as this room can be a challenge. I’m 6’4″ and hit my head a couple of times on the sloped ceilings, but this did not hinder my experience one bit. Also, with its vintage spiral staircase leading up to the suite, I would recommend packing light as it can be a tight fit and a bit tough to carry large bulky items up to the room.
Whether you go downstairs to the updated «chic» dining area located in the front of the mansion overlooking the park on 6^th st., or are one of the fortunate to get the optional breakfast-​in-​bed, the food is exceptional! Light, but will definitely fill you up and give you the energy you need for the day.
The side and back patios are a secluded retreat in themselves. If you are not planning on going out for a long night, a nice dinner downtown will prepare you for a relaxing night on the patio with a glass of wine and a calming water fountain for added ambiance.
Either way, there is no need to look further than the hospitality of the Parkside employees to the exquisite grounds you won’t find anywhere else in downtown Sac. This place has it all! Also, don’t forget to check out their Spa packages which added to our decision to make our stay at Parkside a new tradition!

I really wanted to love this place, but a little tweaking is needed. I was traveling to Sacramento on business and have had good luck with boutique hotels, so I thought I’d try this one based on the reviews. I stayed in the Kiss room. The room décor was charming and the building was updated. The main building dining room and lobby was very cozy and romantic. My room located in the slightly less charming 2^nd house had a few hitches. I arrived for a late check-​in and found that both windows in my room were open. The lever on one window was broken and the handle on the 2^nd window was missing. I didn’t want to disturb the night on-​call manager, so I tried to fix the problem myself. I had to remove the screen and manually pull one window closed and simply kept the water closet door closed to block the air from that 2^nd window. The room lighting was very dim and one of the vanity lights was out making it difficult to put on make-​up. The room was very clean and the staff, very nice. I wasn’t given any orientation to the room other than the electric candles, so it was frustrating figuring out the electronic locks (eventually had to call for assistance). A «double shower head» was an advertised feature of the room, but the shower pressure was extremely weak (virtually a dribbling stream) making showering very frustrating. There was no individual climate control available, and the thermostat for the entire house was set to 72 degrees, but it felt much colder. The first night I slept with my robe on. By the second night, I’d found the space heater in the armoire, so that helped. An assortment of coffees and teas are available 24/​7, but without instructions available, I was unable to figure out how to use the coffee machine. Again, since it was late, I didn’t want to disturb the night manager as I did not consider this an emergency. In my room, I could hear the conversation of others outside my room and could hear the movement of people above me. I could hear the slightest of sounds including someone sneezing, water running, conversations etc. I’m not sure where they were coming from, but I assume from the room above since my room was sandwiched between a massage room (vacant at night) and an outside wall. I assume they could hear my low volume tv and phone conversation as well. I think most of these issues could be easily addressed with an informational card in each room and at the coffee maker etc. Things like non-​functioning lights, broken window levers etc. should be checked for prior to guest check-​in. I don’t know what if anything can be done for the sound issues or water pressure, perhaps the double shower head and should be changed to a single… but in any case, it needs to be addressed. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from staying here, but be aware of the areas in need of improvement.

The perfect place for a romantic getaway! Such an intimate, private Inn. Very comfortable accommodations, and delicious breakfast! The spa was perfect– we had a couples massage that helped us shed the stress from work.

My husband surprised me with a massage and overnight stay here for our 5 year wedding anniversary and it was amazing! Made me feel like a million bucks! The hotel and rooms were beautiful! The massage was good (mine was better than my hubby’s), but we really liked the couples massage aspect. If your looking for low key, relaxation, this is it. Close enough to downtown action to have a night out in the town and walk back, but private enough to get away. It was really nice to wake up to breakfast in the room, but they don’t tell you what you’re getting ahead of time and being married to a picky eater I’d say that was a negative. We plan to go back!!!

I was treated to a spa day for my birthday. And I have to say this place was so lovely! Everyone I talked with was nice and helpful. I really enjoy my facial and message! I plan on coming back again!

My hubby and I have been really busy with work. We decided to book a last minute staycation at the Inn at Parkside. Luckily they had a room available. The room Passion was available. When we arrived we were greeted by one of the owners. Kyle was very friendly. He explained every detail. Passion is upstairs in the Main house. It has a queen size bed and a two person whirlpool tub. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Room and bathroom was clean. Later we went downstairs and enjoyed commentary wine with the owners. They were super friendly and helpful suggesting places to eat for dinner. My husband and I enjoyed sitting and just listing to music while we drank our wine. Most of the guests were out for the evening so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Very relaxing and quiet. We slept great! We woke up to breakfast being made. I could smell the aromas coming from the kitchen. We chose the 10am breakfast time. Breakfast was yummy. I’m one of those vegetarians people don’t like ;) they had no problem switching out my meat for other options. We had lemon poppy seed pancakes, eggs, sausage and fruit cup. I had yogurt instead of meat. Breakfast was definitely a full breakfast. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back to try one of the other rooms. Thank you Inn at Parkside!

What a wonderful, relaxing stay. This is our second stay and we plan on coming back. The couple’s spa package is worth every penny. From the owner to the masseuses, everyone is accommodating and helpful. I haven’t felt this relaxed in a long time. Treat yourself and check in and check out for a night of bliss.

What a wonderful hidden gem in Sacramento. We were heading to a concert in the area and dinner for my boyfriend’s birthday and I found The Inn & Spa at Parkside online and then went to Unilocal to really check it out. I was worried about a few of the lower rated reviews, but we didn’t have any of their issues and we had an amazing time.
We stayed in the villa next door to the Inn in the Dream Suite. It’s on the third floor and the stairs are slightly scary in heels, but manageable. The room had a King size bed and a dual jetted tub. It was a little hot in the room when we first arrived but they had an air conditioner in the room so that wasn’t a problem. The bed was super comfy and had huge cushy pillows as well as thinner pillows. They don’t allow open flame in the hotel, so they even provide the flameless candles. At 5 PM, they welcome you in the main house to the bar/​patio area for complimentary wine and great conversation with their staff. Jenny was very friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel’s history. In the morning, you can choose either an 8 AM or 9 AM breakfast seating in their dining room. We were served fresh fruit, a pastry, egg frittata and potatoes. It was delicious and we were stuffed. During breakfast, we chatted with the owner and he gave us suggestions of things to do during the day or on our next stay.
My only wish is that they had additional parking, it’s first come, first serve on their two spaces and then street parking. But it’s an older property which is what gives it its charm so we kept that in mind as well.
We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to going to back to the Inn and trying the spa packages as well. Thank you for making my boyfriend’s birthday a very special one.

We loved this place! We stayed because it was close by the memorial auditorium where we had. Joe Bonamassa tickets. The room was well appointed. Kyle, the owner was so nice and welcoming! Very helpful! Breakfast was good also. I should have asked for a gluten free option, but other that it was great! We will be back !

The cons: no way to control the temperature and it was hot.
Really thick, stiff pillows. They are about 4″ thick. Both my husband and I were uncomfortable and I woke up in the night with a neck-​head ache. I ended up sleeping without a pillow.
Bedding is okay, not great.
Mirrored ceiling weirded me out. Especially since it has ripples. From some angles it made me look huge. Hey, that is not relaxing.
No tub.

The following is a review of the Spa as I did not stay the night. I received a gift certificate from my friends for a couples massage for myself and my husband. The atmosphere is a bit odd in that it is in the basement and has random stained glass as well as décor that doesnt quite fit. The person who greeted us was busy and kind of put us down there and didnt ask if we wanted any beverages, etc. The waiting room was not very relaxing or inviting.
As for the massage itself it is wonderful! the masseuses made sure to ask us exactly what we wanted and listened. The massage tables themselves were average but because it is so cold in that basement they are in dire need of heated tables or pads under the body because I was shivering at times.
Subsequently we had a bath drawn for us which was quite dangerous to get in and out of. Thank goodness my husband and I are more agile than the average person, but I can definitely see someone slipping and hurting themselves while attempting to get in and out of the slippery tub.
Overall the massage quality was a 5 star but everything else was a 1. Given how expensive this place is I would have expected them to have stepped up their game a bit more.

What a delight! Booked an indulgence package massage and facial with Erin and it was AMAZING! And come to find out it is also a Bed and Breakfast! I can walk from the massage to my room and melt in to the couples jacuzzi tub in less than a minute? Um hello soon to be staycation! After my massage and facial I had chocolate covered strawberries, a glass of Pinot and a tour. Kyle, the owner, was nice enough to let me peek at a few of the rooms and wow they are amazing! A Hidden Treasure for sure! Highly recommended! Tell only those you love… Or strangers if it’s during the week :) would love to keep it to myself but really would love this gem to be well love by others too!

My wife and I recently stayed here in the Happiness room. While there were some nice things about our experience here, there were also some not so good things. We came up with the rating of this bed and breakfast based on six things.
Comfortability of the room: 2. There was no where else to sit and relax except on the bed, and the ceiling was low and I had to constantly stoop over when walking pretty much anywhere in the room. There was also no door to the bathroom. Just one big open space with only a foldable screen separating the bedroom from the bathroom. One nice touch was free netflix in the room and a ton of HD channels to choose from.
Mattress: 2. The only plus for the bed was how big it was (King-​sized). The mattress was hard and I had a stiff neck and back when I woke up in the morning.
Noise factor: 5. I heard nothing the whole night, from either the guests or from outside noise.
Bathroom: 2. The Jacuzzi was nice, but the shower had a low stooping ceiling that made showering kind of difficult. The toilet kind of had a hard time flushing as well. I also tripped several times on the transition from wood to marble in the bathroom area.
Location: 3. The area seemed kind of ghetto, but we had no trouble finding parking and our car was still there in the morning!
Breakfast: 1. Honestly the worst breakfast I’ve had at a bed and breakfast. Coffee was cheap, and the food was just not that good. The yogurt and granola was okay, but I can make that myself! There was an apple turnover that was made using frozen phyllo dough and apple pie filling. Gross. Then there was this weird sandwich with some sort of ham in the middle, a mysterious white sauce, and a fried egg on top. It reminded me of something you could get at McDonalds. I have stayed in bed and breakfasts’ before with superb breakfasts that are fresh and entirely homemade. This was neither of those things.
Overall, my wife and I were very much looking forward to coming here for a nice little get away and we were very let down at the experience. It was a disappointment to spend our hard-​earned money here and not even enjoy it.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and we were looking forward to a quiet and relaxing time. We did not stay in the main house but stayed in the building next door which did not have a very classy feel. The room was nice enough, but it was too warm and the overhead fan was broken. I understand the owner’s are fairly new and we’re really trying, I just didn’t get the sense that they were interested in finding out more about what brought us to the inn. We have stayed in lots of b and b’s and wanted to give this place a try.
Good breakfast and convenient location, just too much money.
