SACRT Light Rail – St Rose of Lima Park Station

Major Renovation Needed If This Station Will Be Primary Feed To The Arena

It’s an absolute joke if we are to consider that THIS STATION will be the primary transit feed to the Arena District when construction is completed, so I hope Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) has an adequate plan to take this into account.
THE SETUP
Besides the Arena, this station is also the primary transit feed to what remains of the Downtown Plaza, the 24 HR Fitness Center, and Old Sacramento beyond. And yet the infrastructure surrounding this station is in poor repair.
As it stands now, this station — and the constantly malfunctioning Light-​Rail trains — are not well-​equipped to handle the loads of passengers that are expected to be transiting to this Arena sector of Downtown.
TRAINS GOING ABRUBTLY OUT-​OF-​SERVICE
The Arena-​discussion aside, what irks me about SacRT and this station is that when the Gold Line «Downtown» train is abruptly — and without warning — taken out of service. OFTEN.
So instead of proceeding to the Amtrak station final terminus of this line as many of us (with luggage) had been expecting (two stops and 7 blocks away), the «Downtown train proceeds instead up the Blue line to the maintenance sheds.
If unable to walk far — as many elderly/​disable passengers are impacted by — it’s 15 minutes to wait for the next train on weekdays, and 30 minutes to wait for the next train on weekends, unless the NEXT train does the exact same thing, which it has — gone off-​line and proceeded up to the maintenance facilities.
THE LOWDOWN
SacRT needs to «step-up-it’s-game» for it’s upcoming «Arena”-performance.

This Light Rail station is split up into three parts. The location depends on which line and direction you are headed. If you are heading to Watt/​I-​80 on the Blue Line, the stop is on 9^th & K. If you are heading westbound on the Gold Line towards Old Sacramento and the Amtrak station, it is on 8^th & K. And if you are headed eastbound to Cosumnes River College or Folsom on the Blue or Gold Line respectively, it is on 7^th & K.
Only used the 7^th & K stop while visiting Sacramento. The surrounding area is quite sketchy, particularly on weekends in which the area is mostly deserted. The 7^th & K stop is right next to a construction area and looks pretty rundown. Also saw some commuters here not paying attention to where they were standing. A couple folks were standing carelessly right on the train tracks. Dangerous if a train is coming through, even if it is not got going very fast.
Long waiting times on the weekends as each line runs only every 30 minutes. But the train times aren’t spaced evenly so you may need to wait more than 15 minutes at times even if your destination is a station in which both lines stop.
The station has a couple of ticket machines which takes cash and credit card payments. Not always the case as another station I visited didn’t accept credit cards, only cash.
If it wasn’t the closest station to where I was staying, I would have not used this station. In hindsight, I should have just rented a car. I would be careful if you are using this station at night as the area is shady.
