History

Established in 2013.

Pipin’ Hot Smokers BBQ started in 2013 as a competition BBQ team. Our flavor uses the distinct character of Kansas City sweet and heat with California warmth. When our pork spare ribs took the People’s Choice Championship at the 2013 Sparta-​Q competition, we decided to make our love of BBQ available to all. In 2014 we added two more awards to our name – 1st Place or Pitmaster Challenge at the Elk Grove Western BBQ Championship and 5th place pork at the 1st Annual Smoke on the River BBQ Championship.

Hi! We are the Harbaughs! Did you know that Pipin’ Hot Smokers is a family run team? We have been cooking great barbeque for as long as we can remember. Awhile back, we decided to take it to the next level and compete. In our first competition, we won people’s choice for our Spare Ribs. From that point forward, we were addicted. We found that we not only love to compete, but we love to serve great food to great people.

If I had to describe Sean’s BBQ in word it would be awesome! People throw around terms like «fall of the bone» to describe their ribs. But his ribs actually live up to the billing! The mac and cheese was on point. The tri-​tip was excellent also. If you need your event catered he is the man to see!

Last night I tried both the pulled pork and the brisket tacos. They were pretty good and priced right. The most impressive part about my experience with this seemingly family owned operation was that it was an unusually slow night for them at the brewery we were at, Track 7 in Natomas, so they basically gave us a couple of platters so we could try all of their BBQ selection.
Although we ended up «tipping» them heavily, what they gave our group of 3 was too good to simply accept for free. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, BBQ ribs, and the mac and cheese. Overall, it was 1 of 2 places in Sacramento with great BBQ; and as a bay area native that has traveled extensively… I’ve experienced few few businesses with «great BBQ». The only thing that wasn’t’t excellent for me was the mac n cheese; but that is largely due to the type of mac n cheese that I prefer, very cheesy.
Anyway, I highly recommend their BBQ.

These guys are GREAT! Catered my wife’s 50th birthday and everyone just raved about the tri-​tip and BBQ chicken. The side dishes were awesome too! Sean is great to work with. I had a special request for a side dish that wasn’t even on the menu and he was more than willing to meet my needs. They keep in touch with you all the way, and are great with follow up. I will definitely recommend this company to cater your next event.

I am updating my review from 2 to 1 due to responses I have received to my 2 star rating. I would update it to a 0, but that’s not available.
I reviewed them 9⁄06 (a month ago) as a 2 and included pictures of the food and their stand/​tent that was outside serving food. There was an old first reply that was received right after the review and even though I never mentioned a refund, my purchase was refunded and I was asked to give them a second chance. There was another original public response 9⁄07 that was recently updated 10⁄2 to include the following added wording «Also, I wished you had asked permission to photograph my minor child before posting his face here. I find that a little troubling.» This wording was added in there 10⁄2 and not sure of the intent of the update instead of creating a new one or why it was so delayed (a month later).
There was never an official request to remove anything, but I removed a picture that was of their whole stand in public outside during the transaction in front of the Brewing company. So I guess nobody will know what the blue pop up tent looks like.

Tried them out tonight while they were outside Track 7 Brewery. Got the Mac n cheese topped with pulled pork which was delicious! Mac n cheese by itself may have been a little lacking in flavor… Maybe needs more salt or something? But it was perfect with the pulled pork on top. Props for great customer service — they were closing up shop and my brother and sister got there waaaay late but they still made sure they got huge portions of pulled pork. Thanks so much!!!

Great set up and awesome food. They have a special bbq sauce that is phenomenal, and their mac n cheese is one of the few homemade ones that I’m in love with; don’t get me started on their slaw. Great group of people who are proud of their food, and they’ve got good cause for that.

After reading all the reviews, we decided to have our Sacramento event catered even though we had not tried any of their food. We had tri-​tip, ribs, and salmon catered. The ribs by far was a big hit (love the sauce — do you bottle it?), followed by the salmon and the tri-​tip. We will have to order more ribs so we can have leftovers!

BBQ is the best. These guys aren’t to be missed, large or small catering, they do it all. The BEST food, with the friendliest service you could ask for. Competition beware; you’ll have a hard time out cooking these guys!

Very professional, excellent customer service, and, most importantly, excellent food. Needed to feed a group of 45 construction workers and Sean delivered on all counts, not a single complaint from anybody. I would recommend getting lots of extra Boss Sauce, because it goes quickly.

I have tried Pipin’ Hot Smokers’ food at several events and I can honestly say, I have never had better BBQ. From their chicken to their pulled pork to their side dishes, their food is always a joy. The attention they pay to every nuance of flavor is evident in the quality of each item on their menu. I look forward to any event that features their deliciously unique culinary offerings. It is always a hedonistic and pleasurable experience. I would eat it every day if I could.

Just can’t wait til they get a place to park their Smokin Hot food! If you hear of them parking out at a Brewery, Pub, or event check them out. Best in town. Great food. Great people … Get it while you can. Soon to be a gastronomic destination that even Zagat would be proud to give 5 stars to !!!
