Nancy Weagly, DVM

Dr. Weagly has been treating my cats for many years. When you have multiple animals, it’s much easier on everybody if the vet comes to the house, rather than having to take all of the cats to the vet. Over the years, I’ve had between 5 and 17 cats at one time. If the visit is a routine health check and vaccines, Nancy does all of the work. But, if you have to do a blood draw or some other procedure, you’re going to have to be the animal tech and hold the animal. If you can’t do that, then it’s going to be easier to take that animal to a vet with support staff.
With multi-​animal checks, you need to make your appointment well in advance, as Dr. Weagly has to allot a certain amount of time for each animal. For 7 – 8 cats, it’s usually a 2 – 3 hour visit. That includes time to get cats out from under beds, etc. It is VERY important that you have all of your animals inside the house before she arrives. She does not chase kitties around the yard.
Dr. Weagly offers very competitive pricing on flea medication and other animal drugs. If you need 60 doses of a flea medication, for example, you need to tell her that when you make the appointment so she can have those supplies on hand for your visit.
If your location is outside of her normal service area, she will sometimes still do the visit, but you’re going to be charged a flat rate trip fee. That can be between $ 50-​$ 100 dollars per trip. My home is now out of her service area, but she still see’s my cats because I’m a long time customer. My $ 100 trip fee is well worth the money.
I still use a brick and mortar vet for emergency visits, or if only one cat needs attention. But for multi-​animal routine visits, Dr. Weagly is perfect.

Dr. Weagly is a no-​nonsense vet who is a bit short on sympathy, but long on honesty. We had our wonderful cat Sebastian, who hated to go to the vet, stop eating and unable to jump up on the bed. She came over and matter-​of-​factly tell us that Sebastian had kidney/​liver cancer. We asked her how long he might live, and she said, ‘As long as he’s alive, he’ll be in pain’. She did not dispense any pain medication for Sebastian, which I wasn’t happy about. We took our kid to the big vet hospital, and they confirmed the diagnosis, and we sadly had to put her to sleep.
So, big on honesty, but a bit brusque. All in all, I’ll use her again.

If I was a dog, suffering from a painful terminal illness, I’d want Dr. Weagly to help me depart this life. I’m sure that’s how our dog, Puppins felt (and how she still feels), as she looks down on us from Dog Heaven.
Shortly after Puppins left us, we received a sympathy card from Dr. Weagly. A few weeks later the UC Davis Veterinary School sent us a note telling us that Dr. Weagly had made a donation to the school in Puppins’ name.

My cats are a vital and important part of my life. They are my family. I get great anxiety when I have to drive to the vet. Nancy is expensive. She is also harsh. I wish another option was available for mobile pet care. My cat did not like Nancy and was so scared she urinated in my lap. A first. She clipped her nails because my cat scratched her. It was traumatic and cost a LOT!

Worst experience I have ever had with a vet and I have had dogs for over 20 years. We were referred to Dr. Weagly for home visits to put down dogs. Thinking this would help with the agonizing decision and heartbreak, we contacted her. She does not dispose of bodies so she lined up a service that would be waiting to take our dog for cremation once she did her job. As soon as the injection was done, she packed up, asked to paid ($ 205) and when I asked about the removal she said, «that’s weird they are usually here.» She said she was going to put her things away in her car and then preceded to just leave. Not a word. Not an update. Nothing. After an hour of sitting with my dead dog, my husband started calling around town for a service and eventually did this himself. We tried calling dr. Weagly twice and it went straight to voicemail. If you are like me and losing a pet is a traumatic experience, she is not the one to call. Not only not professional, but also zero compassion. Beware!

I can’t begin to say enough about Dr. Weagly. We recently used her services to euthanize our dear sweet severely ill old doggie at home. She is very gentle, efficient, and punctual, and the thing that I am most grateful for her for is that she sedated my dog before putting her to sleep.
Years ago, we took our first dog that had to get put to sleep to the major vet center in Sacramento. The dog had had cancer in a front leg resulting in amputation, and a year later a return of cancer to the backbone. The vet diagnosed the return of cancer, but insisted on one last $ 250 x-​ray when we brought the dog back it in a couple of weeks later to be put to sleep. There was no sedation prior to the euthanasia amidst the horrific cacophony of dogs barking and howling, not a peaceful experience at all.
We didn’t want to go through that again with our next pet to be euthanized, so we thought we had found the right small practice. Our 20-​year-​old cat was dying from uremia from failing kidneys, and we specifically made an appointment for euthanasia. Somehow we got talked into two days and $ 800 worth of lab tests and IVs and meds that ultimately did no good when all we really wanted was to put the cat out of it suffering. The cat was obviously on its last legs, but the vet got a little greedy. I requested that the cat be sedated first, but the vet insisted this wasn’t necessary. All the artificial compassion was gone when the vet saw that no more money could be made off of our cat and didn’t even bother to say goodbye to us.
Thank goodness we found Dr. Weagly. She listens. She understands. Sedation of the animal takes no more than 3 minutes from application to a deep resting state. Any vet who will NOT do this and argues against it is not fit to be a veterinarian in my opinion. Our beloved dog went from a deeply relaxed state into her night when the final needle was applied, slowly and lovingly. That’s the way they should all go, isn’t it? Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts Dr. Weagly for helping our friend and doing it right.

I hesitate to call Nancy Weagly an institution, since it makes her sound ancient – like the Governor’s Mansion. But she’s one, anyway. She’s been loving to all our cats, and been a good friend to us when grieving for one who had to be euthanized at the end of his journey on earth. But that’s not all we’ve needed her for. She’s excellent for routine visits for healthy cats, too.
It’s marvelous that we have the chance to get such an experienced, gentle, and intelligent veterinarian when we need one. Even though previous vets have given us advice and care in the past, our cats haven’t cottoned to any vet we’ve taken them to. Cats loathe change, and particularly loathe it when the trip is to get a needle stuck in them, or have a stranger’s hands groping around their muscles, or worst of all – a thermometer stuck in… you know where. Poor kitty!
I’ll forever be in her debt for her consolation and sympathy when the time came for Oscar to leave us. She’s simply a great, one-​of-​a-​kind, woman.

Dr. Weagly very well saved my dog’s life. I was calling around Saturday for a mobile vet to put my 13 year old dog down (I sound casual but i was barfing my brains out) and she, not only was extremely compassionate; but concerned as well and started to ask me questions. Long story short, it came out that the acupuncturist i was taking my dog to had taken Kody off his Metacam. She told me to get him back on that immediately. It’s been 5 days and he is back to his old self. still feeble but who cares… he’s happy, i’m happy and I love Dr. Weagly for saving my best friends life.

Have had her come to my home for years. Referred to me by my mother. I had cats that were formerly feral so much less stress on them to be cared for in the home instead of packing them up to go to a vet’s office. When I started losing them to old age, Dr. Weagly helped me through those difficult times. Very straight forward with information that helped me make the difficult decisions. Very compassionate and caring.

I love having a mobile vet available. Dr. Weagly was very realistic and straight forward about what she could and could not do for our elderly dog. She is not an emergency vet, and is clear that a dog or cat that requires emergency lifesaving care needs to go to an emergency clinic. However, the ability to have a vet come to our home, pull blood, do a complete checkup on all of our pets, and prescribe medication as necissary to make our pets more comfortable was so much less disruptive and stressful for our pet, at less than a similar appointment/​services at Mueller costs.

I was surprised to see Dr. Weagly’s veterinary practice here in Unilocal but I’m very glad that it is. I want to commend Dr. Weagly on how much she has helped me and my furry companions over the years. Unfortunately I usually call upon her for the saddest of appointments; when it’s time to say goodbye to one of my dear companions due to illness or age. Each time I’ve asked her to come by she has been very sympathetic and caring towards both me and my pet, and in doing so makes this most difficult of decisions a bit less traumatic. Euthanizing at home in a quiet, familiar and loving environment is so much more preferable over making that dreaded drive to a vet’s office. Also, I’m sure a very challenging part of her job is «handling» us humans, especially during a very emotional time, and thankfully she does that very well too.
I’m just about to phone her up and book for a marathon appointment of vaccinations and FeLV (leukemia) testing of all my cats. Sadly, I lost my Kninja to the disease recently so I need to take stock of everyone’s health status. Having her come to the house will be much more convenient for me and much less stressful on the furry ones.

This vet has dedicated herself to the care of our home pets. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, and stays current on vet care for animals. We came upon her 15 years ago when we had a dog who could not handle going to a vet office. She turned out to be the one we go to and if a referral is needed she has the best to recommend. We admire her skills in all she has done for our pets and us.

I am a convert to the idea of home vet care.
When my geriatric cat was dying, I didn’t want to subject him to one more trip to the animal hospital with all its scary smells and barking dogs etc. So I made arrangements with Dr. Weagly to come to my home when the time came to say goodbye to my little pal.
As it turned out, we needed her sooner than we thought. Dr. Weagley came on 15 minutes’ notice, on her day off. We sat in the backyard and I held my cat in my lap while Dr. Weagly administered the shot. It was so peaceful, and I’m so thankful we could be someplace that felt familiar and safe to my cat.
Dr. Weagly was so competent that I had her come back for my other cat’s checkup and shots. This cat is especially freaked out by visits to the vet’s office, and because she has to be wrapped in a towel before the vet can even touch her, she rarely gets a complete checkup.
The checkup took place in my living room. Dr. Weagly took the time to get to know my cat, letting her relax and finally come to her in her own time. She ended up purring on her lap. Quite a change from the old office visits! Dr. Weagly gave her a good examination, with plenty of good advice. She even pulled a bad tooth in about two seconds flat. The shots, toenail clipping, etc. went equally quickly.
She will be my regular vet now. Her per visit fee is very reasonable, and compared to some of the overpriced services and unnecessary tests my prior vet group is known for, I see it as a bargain in the long run.
Very glad to know there are vets like Dr. Weagly out there.

We have been a patient of Dr. Weagley’s for 3 or 4 years now and love her. Before we found her, taking our dog to the vet was a nightmare and required for her to be heavily sedated and muzzled. Dr. Weagley comes to the house and is so calm and loving with our dog that we no longer have to do this. It has taken all of the stress out of these annual check-​ups. At the same time she is very knowledgeable and takes great care to assess any and all symptoms or changes we advise her of. We and our dog are so much happier having met her.

After we had spoke earlier I had called Dr Weagly back to make an appt. for a regular check up and to possibly have blood work done on my older cat. I had mentioned that he had lost a bit of weight recently (but he is a big cat) and that his breath wasn’t great. She left a message that sounded like my cat was dying, «sounds like he’s got problems» and ended the message with a big sigh and «I’m sorry I can’t help you». That was it! no «call me back and let’s discuss it». She flat out refused to treat my pet. I was so upset i cried– If your like me your pets are your like your kids, so it was the equivalent of a doctor saying your kid is terminal and they can’t help. Rude, uncaring, no stars.
