Salon Owners from 4 different African American hair salons across Sacramento have joined together to form Mixed Institute of Cosmetology. Mixed, which stands for Multicultural, Innovative, Cutting Education, seeks to provide students with the skills to perform services needed for the diverse population that Sacramento holds.

I took my daughter in yesterday for a haircut and highlights, She has never had highlights but since she was starting school the next day I thought it would be a fun treat. Inexpensive too, right? Wrong. The check in process was a mess. Very unorganized. I asked for a haircut and highlights for my daughter. The sign in the window and on the front door said it was $ 44.00 for full highlights. I was charged almost double that. $ 84.00 which I had to pay before services were rendered. We were there 4 hours and after all was said and done she did not get a haircut which was the main reason we went. When I was charged $ 84.00 I tried to rationalize it in my head. She has longer hair and we have to include the cost of the $ 10.00 haircut. Nope. No haircut included in that price. You cannot tell my daughter had highlights put in either.
The one thing I will say is that the hairdresser herself was very nice. Her name was Jordyn and my daughter really liked her. I don’t blame her one bit for the issues with payment or the color itself as she had many instructors around telling her what to do at all times. Definitely not worth the money and time.

Organized way to get clients in and out! Their students are very polite and listen to what you actually want. My only problem is that I specifically said I wanted a deep condition as my hair is very dry. The student understood me but I guess the instructor was on her about doing it for a shorter time under the dryer. So I did get a whole 5 minutes of deep conditioning! That was fine with me though because whatever product she used, worked good to soften and moisten my hair. Definitely recommend and I will be going back!

Ladies are friendly and knowledgeable. Bring my daughter twice a month and am always satisfied. Jenn has her hair bouncing and looking healthier than it has in years.

This is a learning school and they also practice on walk in clients. I’ve only ever been here to get my lip and eyebrows waxed. You can’t beat that for $ 8.
They are friendly. Always busy. Clean on the inside and professional. I will be returning.
