Ki Gifts And Custom Framing

Custom framing is expensive. Period. But this Owner was very personable, customer service-​oriented, and had a good eye for framing. I previously had a great experience getting a piece of photography framed and received helpful guidance and multiple options to choose from for matte and framing to match and compliment my artwork. The Owner gave me quality museum glass at no extra charge, which I appreciated very much. I will always remember my positive experience at this place in the years to come when I look at my artwork piece displayed in my home. I was recently disappointed that I could not take a couple of additional custom framing needs to Ki since they are no longer open for business, and instead drove out to Michael’s in the suburbs; I would much rather support a local business like this place!

This was my first time using a custom framing shop, and it was a great experience. After getting a quote, I realized I did not have the necessary turn around time for a custom frame. Keith worked with me and I bought a premade frame from him. I needed it in a few days and he got it back to me in less than a day’s time.
The price was extremely reasonable, comparable to a pieced together framing from Michaels, if you can believe that.
What pushes this place into exalted territory is Keith himself. He is very measured, extremely personable, and never pushy. He really cares about the work he does, and I felt very comfortable leaving my framing item with him. Keith actually thanked me for letting him frame my dad’s black belt certificate from the 70s.
I was initially hesitant of custom framing due to the high prices, but I’m sure if you come in with a budget, Keith will do his best to make it work for you. You may not get everything you want, but you can be sure that he’s doing everything he can to get you your money’s worth.

KI Gifts is a great shop to have over at this little section of downtown. Here’s why:
— the owner, Keith, is friendly and more than willing to help you find the perfect frame for your artwork
— local artisans are represented in the gift shop (I bought a Scrabble bracelet here that I always get complimented on — and it was made by a former CA Dept of Education employee)
— lots of different greeting cards to choose from: funny, sassy, meaningful, compassionate, thought-​provoking (I can’t believe I used all those words to describe greeting cards but there you go)
— Keith is very willing to support local events with signage and space to hand out cards. He might also provide a gift card if you’re doing a raffle for charity.
Stop by, browse the shop, pick up a card for a friend, take in that retro poster or awesome print you’ve been meaning to get framed for years, then swing by Yellowbill or Zia’s on the same block for a snack. You just supported local indie businesses. Boom.

This is the place I was looking for, without knowing it. Once I spotted the shop sign in the front window, «Life is how you frame it,» I sighed smilingly, and entered to a fun, well designed gift shop, and more.
The owner Keith was quick to say hello and find out my project needs. After selecting materials, I discovered his prices beat out the area’s competition, comfortably. and his fun, feel good stories of the day, were a hoot.
Keith’s shop, is definitely my spot.

Keith is amazing!
I took a somewhat-​pricey medium-​sized print of mine to Ki Gifts And Framing and I am very happy that I did. Keith has an incredibly friendly demeanor, a wide knowledge of his craft and spent about 20+ minutes helping me pick just the perfect combination of matte and frame until I was completely satisfied.
I opted for the museum glass in addition to rush job around the holidays for a nice, even $ 300. I will upload a shot of the finished product under «James Jean Hound» to see the finished product for yourself.
Highly recommended!

The main problem with framing services here is that while they are good, the price is OBSCENELY high! There is simply no justification for what is charged. I had a relatively simple and straightforward piece set-​up for framing and when the cost came in at a breathtaking $ 250, I nearly passed out. I have had MANY pieces framed and the quality here simply does not match the excessive pricing. Period. The services are adequate, but FAR from exceptional. I felt taken advantage of.
One other problem with my order was this: The top of the wooden frame had a spot in it where it had clearly been struck and damaged. I saw this as I was placing the framed picture in my car. Considering what I had gone through with this store and all the hassle, I just accepted the damaged frame and moved on. I do not recommend this store and their services. I will never go back. No reason to.

Keith is great and very knowledgeable regarding framing. We are redoing several of our prints so we have been working with him over several months. He is pleasant, helpful and reasonably priced. Plus it is great to support Sacramento’s small business. He also has some unique gift type items and funny cards. Definitely worth stopping by his shop.

Fun gift store.
Came to have two paintings framed. Framing is just expensive. If you want to preserve your original art even though you may have paid $ 10 for it you have to spend $ 200 to have it nicely matted with conservation glass. You just have to face the facts.
The owner has a nice program that show you exactly how it will look framed. He takes a photo of your art and then places virtual mats and frames around it. Thanks to Tiffany K for the review which turned me on to this place!

Excellent card store — all your basics, at reasonable prices, and Pondering Pool cards!
Pondering Pool cards are really difficult to find around town, and they have an excellent selection of them. The owner said of them, «I like them because you can only give them to people you know really well.» This is a guy who clearly cares about what’s on his shelves.
Cute little gifts at reasonable prices, too, but the cards are the stand out (unless you need framing, i guess).

I’ve never been tempted to write a Unilocal review before but this place impressed the hell out of me. The owner is super helpful and friendly. I was looking to frame a print as a gift and he really took an interest and made sure I got something that made it look its best. Reasonable prices and outstanding customer service. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

WELL!!! I first found out about Keith on Unilocal,and I haven’t regretted it for a single moment. Keith is amazing with colors, has great customer service, and I feel like his prices are very reasonable for what you get. I didn’t trust my art to a big place like Michael’s with their 50% off coupons, but I did trust him immediately. He has an amazing eye for mats and frames and is good about keeping within my budget (no surprises on prices!) although I have a feeling I could spend millions there. He didn’t show me anything really expensive outside of my budget, he wasn’t pushy about mats and colors, just had really good suggestions and would go with the flow if I didn’t like ‘em very much. I have recommended him to family and friends and I have no hesitation in sending them over to be taken care of. I’ve had 4 pieces framed now, and chosen frames and mats for 2 more of my mother’s pieces. I’ve been so happy with my art, and incidentally, the gift shop has REALLY cool stuff too at a reasonable price. I love this store!

This place is great — the owner is very helpful and incredibly patient. The best part of his framing service is that he has a program so you can see what your piece will look like with different colored mats and frames, so there are no surprises.

TGFY (Thank Goodness For Unilocal)! I found this spot as I needed to get a painting stretched. It was a souvenir painting (with canvas and stretch bars unassembled) that I lugged all the way from Maui and thought «one of these days» I would get it done. Well, it was just sitting around and not beautifying my house, so I did a search on Unilocal and found Ki Gifts And Custom Framing.
Keith is helpful, customer-​focused and his prices are fair. Not only that, but there are some unique gifts here too! Jewelry, stationery, wall hangings, whimsical glass sea creatures, candles and vintage bottle cap magnets for a buck.
He did a fantastic job considering the wooden frame was problematic (made in Bali) and the canvas had been kicking around in my closet. I’m so happy that I went and did it.
I have some other pieces that need framing — an old watercolor I did in college — and some vintage Japanese album covers that I discovered at my grandparent’s house from the 1950’s. Art just makes your place look better.

Back in December I needed to get a picture framed for my father’s Christmas present. I had no idea about framing places in the Sacramento area so I hopped on Unilocal.Luckily I found Ki Gifts and Custom Framing and their flawless reviews.
I went down to the store on a Saturday afternoon. Luckily, for me, it wasn’t too busy. I showed Keith the picture and described where my father was going to be hanging it. He loaded the image into some fancy software he has in the store and with a few clicks we found the perfect matting and frame. I paid the deposit and he told me to come back in one week. I went back a week later and the project was completed as promised. It looked great!
As far as price, I don’t know what framing usually runs, I do know that I feel like I got a good deal. The frame was 30 inches x 20 inches, there were two different colors of layered matting, and the ‘glass’ was acrylic for shipping and shatter-​resistant purposes. I got all of this for under $ 300, which I thought was solid, especially since shipping cost me over $ 200!
I cannot say enough good things about this place. The owner was very helpful and he does excellent work. The store is very nice too. Stop by sometime even if you don’t have anything to frame, I am sure that you will find something in the store that you will want to buy.

I used to rag on this place everytime I walked passed it. On valentines day I went in with my homeboy to buy something for his wife and I have to say that I was completely wrong about this place.
I am going to get some pictures framed and make my horribly drab cubicle look much better by shopping here.

Excellent customer service — thank you Unilocal for this recommendation! I brought in two fairly unique pieces from a trip to Peru. One was a very difficult and large embroidered item and the other was a smaller watercolor. Keith recommended great matting and frame color combination items which I was able to preview through his software technology so that I could actually see what the final product would look like. He even emailed me the results so that I could show my husband.
The larger piece turned out to be a big challenge as it had a border outline, and because it was handmade it didn’t quite line up geometrically to the rectangular frame. Keith wasn’t totally satisfied with the final product and called me up about a month after he completed it to see if the piece had stretched out to align with the frame. I admitted that it hadn’t and he offered to give it another go and was able to make it line up better with a second try. Now, when was the last time you had someone offer to redo their product without any complaints or requests? I will definitely be back!

My boyfriend recently convinced me to invest in an old Stanley Mouse print of the Skeleton and Roses (Grateful Dead lithograph) and I knew this meant further investment in a good matte and frame for the treasure.
I could go on about the sheer luck (or here’s hoping to good karma) that led me to Keith’s place instead of another shop, but it is rather serendipitous and I wouldn’t want to insight any premature pumpkins before midnight.
Anywhoo, :) I brought the print in, and Keith was extremely nice and present with me, he took a look at the print and placed it under the scope of his super cool framing software galactica setup.
He suggested a few frames, and produced as many digital images (fully framed and matted, no squinting of eyes to imagine the rest of the frame and hoping for the best) that I needed to take home to the man.
Did I say cool? The guy was super cool and realistic and flexible. He’s probably still in business in this crap economy because he’s not a shiesty capitalist and seems to enjoy what he does well.
We picked out the frame and gave Keith the go ahead, and it was done and ready for pick up in two weeks. I wasn’t in any rush, so I don’t know what he will do for you if you are in one.
It was beautiful.
He added an extra black matte, just a small outline, (no extra charge) which beautifully enhanced the nature of the black based print. The framing and backing looked great, and I was just really happy to recieve more than I expected, for a very reasonable price.

I HIGHLY recommend this shop!
I had just come from University Art, brought in a piece of mat board I already owned and wanted it cut.
They wouldnt cut it for me, because I didnt purchase it there… ugh. Its not like I wasnt willing to pay!
I googled «downtown sacramento framing» and Ki Gifts and Framing came up first… actually before University Art…
So I called right up and spoke with a very cheerful gentleman who said he could help me!
We drove right over within 5 minutes and he cut the mat and insisted on not charging me! I gave him $ 10 anyhow and he still insisted on giving me change, though I wouldnt take it, very thankful that some one finally was doing GOOD BUSINESS!!! Being a business owner myself, I know that his actions are leaving a lasting impression on me to shop there in the future as well as recommend to as many friends and family as I can!!!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Ki is an absolutely amazing little shop, bursting with personality. The owner, Keith, is warm, friendly and knowledgeable and most importantly, he obviously loves and cares a great deal about the work he does.
During the process of my recent move to Davis, a piece of my father’s artwork was dropped and the frame was broken. Being new to the area, I brought it to a large ready-​made & custom framing chain store and was told that they didn’t think they could fix the frame and if they were to try, it would probably take 2 – 3 weeks (!). After another local custom framing shop quoted me an exorbitant fee to repair the frame, I decided to turn to Unilocal.Luckily, my search led me to Ki Gifts and Custom Framing and I’m so glad it did! Thanks to Keith’s expertise, my frame was fixed in less than an hour!!! Not only did my frame look fabulous, but Keith’s fees are very very reasonable and his positive upbeat attitude is infectious. I left the shop wearing an ear-​to-​ear grin.
I would highly recommend Ki and I definitely plan to go there for all of my framing needs in the future!
