Kaveri is the best Indian food in Arden, and is among the best in Sacramento! We stopped in for the lunch buffet to see if the food and service held up to the high accolades Kaveri has recieved. We were not dissappoinyed. The lunch buffet has many of the standard items you would expect you see: tandoori chicken, saag paneer, veggie pakora, butter chicken, Tikka masala, rice etc. But they have a few other additions I don’t see too often: cauliflower curry, mushroom curry, goat curry, a fresh salad bar, and a wonderful assortment of sauces to compliment your meal. I also thought the food was a tad spicier than I used too, which was a pleasant surprise. Be sure to leave room for desert too. Kaveri has the donut pastries in rose water and a rice pudding that were delicious. The friendly and courteous staff were very prompt and attentive to refilling our drinks, taking plates etc. Kaveri was a great find, and we can’t wait to go back to see what they have on the dinner menu!

This was our first visit to Kaveri, for dinner on a Sunday night. We enjoy Indian food and we generally go to Pooja or occasionally Curry Club if we are in Folsom. Those places serve pretty good food, but I have to say Kaveri blows them out of the water. The flavors are significantly cleaner and stronger than most other Indian restaurants we have tried. The service is also much better. We ordered ground lamb naan and some papadums for starters. The naan was delicious, tasting of lamb without being overpowered by the meat. The papadums, and the accompanying sauces were also really tasty. My Madras chicken was fairly spicy(which I generally prefer) and served as a dinner provides more than enough food to satiate all but the biggest appetites. They brought us a large basket of warm, fresh naan which I wanted to wear home as much as eat. The consistency and flavor were outstanding. My wife had the butter chicken(Makhani) and it was far better than any other variation on this dish. The Gulab Jamun dessert was delicious as well. Not too sweet with a nice savory note. We were stuffed and hadn’t even really finished everything so we asked for boxes to take the leftovers home. As we packed the food, we saw a dosa being taken to another table, and unfamiliar with this dish, asked the staff what it was. They told us the name and showed us the various flavors and fillings. We thanked him and said we would try it next time. 5 minutes later he returns with a Masala dosa and presents it to us, asking us to try it — at no charge I might add. It was fantastic, and we plan to get it on our return visit. Kaveri was a very good dinner outing that bears repeating!

I really enjoyed this place. The food was pretty darn good as far as what im used to for Indian Cuisine. You can tell if an ethnic-type/foreign-cuisine restaurant is good if you see a lot of that particular ethnic group eat at that restaurant. Atleast from my experience. You go into a Ramen house and you see that most of the patrons there are from Japan or Asian country you can probably bet on that restaurant being really good. A lot of people from that part of the world were getting their grub on over there and that reassured me i had come to a good restaurant. Great variety of food to choose from. Buttered garlic Naan was always fresh along with the rest of their food. Waiting staff was quick for me and polite. Clean environment and just a nice space to get your grub on. Im a fan. Ima have to go back their again for Lunch Buffet.

The food was delicious: fresh, tasty, spicy and well-prepared. However, next time I’ll go for the buffet, not the carry-out: the take-away portions were, for a meal that cost almost $ 60 for two people, VERY small in comparison to other local and good Indian restaurants. But again, the food from was delicious. Just a shame there wasn’t enough for second(or third) helpings.

We went here today for lunch and it was fantastic. Food tastes really fresh and flavorful. Lots of unique options with the buffet! I had the sag paneer, tikka Marsala, naan, and rice. As well as creating a little appetizer tray for us. The dipping sauces were great, I like the thinner chutney they do. They also had a mango pudding as well as the kheer, it was like a mango lassi with mango chunks in it. The kheer was a little thin to my personal liking but good, just different. My partner could not stop raving about the goat curry, he was really really happy. I’m regretting not at least trying the squash curry. Service was good, prices were good. Great buffet when in the area. I’ll be back.

As someone of South Indian descent, this place is pretty good. The buffet items were tasty and the prices were very decent. Its really hard to find any menu items that weren’t outstanding.

Mmmm this place is delicious! They have a great lunch buffet with all the favorites. All the flavors are so amazing. Really enjoyed their selection too. When it is cold out this place will warm your soul. Good deal for $ 10 + tax

First impression was very positive. Ordered our mainstays and each was quite good. When we said the«spicy» masala wasn’t spicy enough, they took it back voluntarily and within minutes got a dish more to our liking. Prices were very fair and service was excellent, something not often found at other Indian restaurants in the Sacramento Valley. Place looked clean, but a trip to the restroom had me see janitorial supplies that should be tucked away and the restroom itself needed attention. Will be back for the delicious food and friendly and attentive service.

I love restaurants that offer buffets to-go, and I recently found out Kaveri is one of those places. I’ve sampled most of the Indian restaurants in and around town and food-wise, I think this place is just average, but I added another star for the to-go buffet option. It’s great because you can usually get two meals out of it and you don’t have to leave a tip. Yes I know, I’m cheap, but I have a good excuse.(Currently unemployed.) Aside from the buffet, I would recommend the masala dosa/Kaveri special. It’s huge and delicious.

Lets start with food is amazing. Every time Downside, the buffet doesn’t vary much so expect basically the same foods when you come. Also i wouldn’t call their service rude but don’t expect any exchange of words and I’ve oddly never been offered soft drink even though they clearly have it All in all this is a regular spot for me when I’m feeling Indian and don’t want to conversate

$ 30 dinner buffet for 2 people on a Saturday night. The food was good, but not worth that price. How do you go from $ 9 lunch buffet to $ 15 for dinner? They had a lot of chicken items and one goat. No lamb, though. The best part of the meal were the mango custard and gulab jamun I doused with rice kheer.

We’ve been coming here for years and this place has the best vegetable samosas in town I think. While they have a good buffet, I prefer to order a la carte since I always want their chicken tikka masala, which is so delicious. We also like the chicken vindaloo(spicy), aloo gobi(potatoes and cauliflower), mutter paneer(peas and cheese), palak paneer(spinach and cheese), malai kofta(a vegetarian coquette in a yummy sauce). The tandoori chicken is very tender and flavorful. The dosas are also good. If you want to try Indian food, but don’t know much about what to order, I’d recommend any of the above, or just Google names of dishes from any Indian restaurant. The best way to try Indian for the first time is to order with a group so you can try a little of everything. It also helps if you have someone in the group who knows what to order, but if you don’t, don’t let that stop you!

I came here with a group of friends for lunch this past weekend. I attempted to try everything in the buffet, but I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I just couldn’t try all of the dishes. My favorite was the goat curry and the chicken masala. The goat curry was spicy, and the meat was tender. The masala was creamy and I wish I could have eaten more of it. My least favorite was the rice; it was just too dry for my taste. Service was excellent. The gentleman was good about filling our water glasses and clearing our plates.

Honestly, I came here around 9 pm on a Saturday night hungry and famished since I just finished a tennis tournament. I decided to go for the dinner buffet option. They had a good selection of items at the dinner buffet but I was disappointed that they weren’t going to bring out more food on the stuff that was running low. I guess that makes sense since they close at 9:30 pm but it still kind of sucked. The service seemed decent, since it was a buffet people came around quickly to clear our plates and refill our water. Now for the rundown on the food, the naan was really disappointing since it seems like it has been sitting out for a while probably because it has and it was overly chewy. The mixed veggie pankora tasted good but I only got little pieces and scraps since this was one of the items that was running low that they wouldn’t refill. I tried the spinach and cheese dish and I wasnt really a fan, same with the tandori chicken. The tandori chicken was okay, nothing amazing. But their redeeming factor was the mushroom curry, o my gosh was that delicious. I have never had mushroom curry before and this one had amazing spices and rich deep flavor. Also their chicken tikka marsala was soo good, I am used to chicken tikka being dry but this one was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. I wouldn’t mind coming back here earlier and trying their lunch buffet or even trying one of their enormous crepes.

As an avid Indian food enthusiast, i have to say Kaveri Madras Cuisine is an exceptional restaurant considering the price. (Note: Review is based on lunch experience only) Came here for lunch and immediately surprised with the potent smells of: dried spices, lentils, garlic, curries, and blast of buttery aromas. When i use to live in the Bay Area I would make it my «duty» to try every Indian restaurant from Fremont to SF. Then again i use to date someone(4-years!) that was raised around Indian Northern style cooking. But you know what, i have no regrets, the past is the past, she and I moved on and we learned more about ourselves and the meaning of a healthy and loving relationship; MOSTOFALL, MYDISCOVERYOFINDIANFOOD! Getting off topic, I present you a list of restaurants i visited and recommend in SF, Palo Alto, Redwood City, and Fremont areas(75% vegetarian): The buffet is small(pictures provided) and charming; there were no thrills or frills in the décor or ambiance department, just straight up Southern & Northern style Indian Food. To be honest, I forgot most of the dish names, ill revisit Kaveri Madras again and actually take a pictures of each entrée(LOL, ya ill do that for you guys, ill be that guy that takes 1000s photos of food). I think this place is worth it, for astonishing $ 10!!! The Tandoori Chicken, Palak Mutter Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Payasam and Gulab Jamun are extremely satisfying and flavourful. If you want something different and not break the bank for lunch, try Kaveri Madras Cuisine. Recap: ** Payment – Cash/Credit(Most major credit cards not sure about American Exp) **Service(despite it being a buffet) — AWEESOME!!! They were very attentive in asking taste quality questions and very prompt with water refills **Spicy?– Spice level is more in the low and medium range **Furniture – Meh, not really my concern, but you usually get this typical décor from your general Indian restaurant(look at my recommendation links and compare and contrast). Unless its located in urban areas like midtown or SF. I know a lot of Unilocalers bash the furniture and décor, but I’m here for the FOOD only. Overall Score: 3.5÷5(round to 4) since the chicken was a little burnt and unevenly cooked, plus NOGARLICNAAN!!! tsk tsk tsk… If you’ve never tried garlic naan from an Indian restaurant you are missing out. A future revisit is bound to happen maybe this week or next week =D so i can take quality pictures for you Unilocaling addicts.

94% of my reviews are 3+ stars, and I don’t diss without consideration. Kaveri has occupied the same strip mini-mall location on lower Fulton Ave. for as long as I can remember. I stopped in recently for the $ 10 lunch buffet. I never expect hot table items to be as good as the made to order dishes, but this was decidedly underwhelming to OK. About a dozen mostly creamy and oily dishes, a dried out pan of fried veggies, salad, and a mango pudding and Gulab Jamun if you’re up for sweets. The Gulab Jamun, though good, lacked the tangy curdled flavor I’m accustomed to. Worn, stained(or dirty) carpets and a décor that won’t impress your date. A few other less than appetizing observations I’ll keep out of the review. All in all, forgettable.

My Fijian beau has been wanting to take me to Kaveri’s for a while now. We finally got our chance this afternoon just in time for th lunch buffet. These days I usually focus on the vegetarian dished as I get less bloated toward the end. I was delighted to find my usual Dahl, and a saag dish, Chana Saag(chickpeas and creamed spinach). I prefer roti bread over naan, because it it is whole-wheat flour baked in the tandoori oven. Kaveri does not have this on their menu, but when I requested it, the staff gladly said they would make it for me. The smile on the woman’s face made me feel like I wasn’t just a customer, but a guest. The Chana Saag ended up being one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. I have a rule for vegetarian Indian food, «the worse it looks, the better it tastes». Lol. As soon as I stuck that first forkful into my mouth, the creaminess and spice enveloped my mouth in perfect order. I was very pleased with the amount of heat in the dish as I love spicy food. Add in the fresh roti and you’ve got the perfect Indian meal. I didn’t even have rice, just the roti, rolling food into it like I would a tortilla with Mexican food. I added in a bit of meat protein with the tandoori chicken. I usually don’t eat that but I told myself I would eat«light” – which is nearly impossible with Indian food. My beau enjoyed everything he put on his plate, from goat curry to vegetable biryani to kheer for dessAt the end of our meal he said, «After all these years, they still got it!». I give Kaveri five stars for their delicious buffet and great customer service. By the way, they didn’t even charge me for the roti. It goes without saying that we will be back.

I have been to their lunch buffet twice and I highly recommend it. The first time, I came later around 1:30 and the choices were more limited as I’m sure they didn’t want to cook up a bunch of food right before close. The second time I got there around noon and there was a plethora of hot, fresh choices. The usual suspects — rice(2 kinds), naan, a few vegetarian dishes, a couple kinds of chicken, goat, desserts. The lunch buffet is just over $ 10pp and I think it’s worth the money. The service was good enough for me — not friendly, but I had water in my glass when I needed it, and I’m pretty sure her English was minimal at best.

The best Indian lunch and dinner buffet in Sacramento county! I’ve been a patron for more than 15 years. Casual and clean dining. Service is tops! Dinner buffets are only on Fridays and Saturdays. If you have dinner there other nights I recommend getting their thali combo plates. Dinner prices are about $ 16. Daily lunch buffet is under $ 10, 11:30am-2:30pm
