3.5÷5: Rounding up for nice service. Ju Hachi is a modern, slightly more Americanized sushi spot in Sacramento. Came here for a casual lunch with my friend. Parking wasn’t too bad for a Friday during lunch. I found street parking very quickly. We were seated immediately and had a very nice server. We each got a chirashi and split an order of uni nigiri and amaebi nigiri. The chirashi was pretty good but a bit pricy at $ 26. The portion was decent, the fish quality was very average, and the selection was average as well. My chirashi came with tuna, salmon, seared albacore, hamachi, ikura, and what I think was sea bream. The tamago was not great but the rice had some flavor and the texture was good. I’m not upset at the dish but there’s better options for the price. Personally I think Yui Marlu’s has a similar price tag but better quality.(3.5÷5) Uni was also pretty average. Not very flavorful and a bit too ocean-y.(3.5÷5) Amaebi was the same way. Not particular sweet or smooth. Just average(3.5÷5) Overall, I wasn’t blown away by the meal but the price tag was what I expected and the quality was decent. I’d consider coming back if my friends wanted to.

I was here after my first visit to the cathedral for mass. It was a quant little place and the setting was relaxed. They had a few options for sushi– I choose the California roll and the rainbow roll, both of which were incredibly delicious. Compared to other sushi places I’ve been too, they weren’t priced super high, and it held that we want during lunch time. Waitress was super nice and We didn’t wait very long, considering there were probably 10 people ahead of us. Gave them an overall 5 star rating because they are as good as I’ve been to. Would probably rate like 4.5 stars but rounded up becuase they place was clean and they greeted me with a warm welcome When I first came in.

Had dinner here with friends sometime last week and it was okay. Pros: clean, pretty good food and friendly sushi chefs. Cons: Slow inaccurate service and long wait for food. What we ordered: Edamame: server forgot to bring it out to us Baby octopus: server forgot about that too Calamari tempura: Good but hard to chew Salad: Waaaaay too much water and hardly any flavor. The most boring salad ever. Poki salad: I’m used to Poki salad with some wakame salad, but the Poki here was just tuna in some sauce. It was pretty good tho… kinda dry, maybe if they added more sauce it would been perfect! Large bbq albacore: this dish was good. I loved the sauce. Rolls: I’m really not a roll kind of gal but it was pretty decent. Sesame chicken: chicken was super tasty but a bit pricey. $ 18 for chicken, watery salad and super salty soup. Deep fried cheesecake: it was good but would tasted awesome with a scoop of ice cream Overall I probably will try it one more time. Hopefully the service is better.

My favorite Japanese restaurant. I go there at least once a week and love it. Can’t beat the Happy Hour prices either. But the food is always fresh and delicious every time. I just love this place. Please keep it up.

I was a bit disappointed. Unilocalers wrote so many great reviews so I brought my bf there to celebrate his promotion. Sushi isn’t new for me. We are always excited to try out a new sushi spot. 1) customer service was good. We didn’t wait long. Within 5 – 10 min we were sitted. 2) food was okay. We ordered the baby calamari, which was partially burnt, overcooked which made it rubbery. The Miso was salty. The tofu was dry. For the main course we got double T roll and the taka big roll. Taka roll was ok. Double T roll was okay. Both rolls do not worth the price you paid for. But the sauce made double T roll enjoyable. I loved the sauce!!! Would I come back? I don’t think I would if the food is made the same way. I don’t blame the establishment. I think they can improve it.

Let’s just say: this place made me start Unilocal reviews. This is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant ever. If I ever feel sad, I go here. The food is INCREDIBLE. Best miso I’ve had, freshest fish I’ve had. Oh and their Double T roll?! Game changer. The options are endless. The service is amazing. Everyone is always super incredibly accommodating and quick. It’s the best kept secret in Sac. Thanks Ju Hachi, keep being amazing.

True rating: 3.5 stars. Rounding up cause the server was really nice. I’ll keep this one short. I believe I ordered the caterpillar roll without cucumber. The sushi was really fresh and I definitely tasted the richness of the ingredients. Only thing is, I wish it didn’t take 17 minutes for the roll to come out. When I got there, there was literally just one couple seated. I’m not too sure why it took so long for the order to come out when the place was pretty much empty. I know beauty takes time. but my stomach’s clock runs fast I guess. If you don’t mind a little wait, this place is solid. Loved the sushi. I’ll come back when I have a higher patience threshold though.

The Unilocal reviews were really good so I decided to check this place out. Found parking easily but I imagine on a nice sunny day parking maybe hard to find. The wife and I walked in about 5 minutes early before their noon time opening and were told they weren’t open yet and to come back in five minutes. Why can’t we just sit in the waiting area until they open? Ok at that point I was slightly irritated about the fact we had to wait outside this place. Poked my head in there 5 minutes later and asked«You guys open yet?» The guy at the sushi bar came at me with a question, «Is it 12 noon yet?» I wanted to say, «Did you want customers eating in your restaurant?»…but refrained. The clueless sushi chef looked around and said, «Yes we’re open.» The wife and I walked in and the waitress walked us to the sushi bar. We sat down and looked over the menu. Since it’s my first time here, I didn’t know what’s really good so I told the the waitress we will start with a green salad and hot green tea. The waitress came back quickly with our green salads and tea. I also ordered a large sashimi plate, Lomi salmon nigiri, sea steak nigiri, and a spicy scallop hand roll at the sushi bar. Our sashimi plate came out first and it had 18pieces chef choice. The cuts were very fair in size and it had like a sea steak salad as part of the sashimi plate. We tried the sea steak salad first. It was spicy and had sea weed in it. The sea steak was slightly on the tough side so I know that the sea steak nigiri we ordered will be a little tough too. The sashimi though was very fresh and it melted in your mouth. There were three sushi chefs in front of us. The one making out sushi was chef Watanabe, which is what it said on his chef uniform. The other two never acknowledged us and went on doing their prepping for a catering event they spoke about to another patron. I started eating the salad and I noticed the green salad was watery bc they never drained off the greens in a salad spinner. The dressing was something I didn’t recognize. The salad($ 4.50 each) was just plain nasty so I decided not to eat it and shoved it off to the side. The nigiri we ordered was placed on the counter, Lomi salmon and sea steak. At this point we were already finished with our sashimi plate and was ready to move onto our nigiri’s. The Lomi salmon nigiri looked really pretty and the taste was perfect. The sea steak though like I said earlier was on the tough side. I couldn’t even bite it in half. I had to use my hand to chomp it in half just to get a bite. It tasted ok but nothing really special. I also ordered Unagi nigiri after that. The wife and I sipped on our green tea and spoke about where we were going next. What seemed like 15 minutes later, the sushi chef laid down an order of uni roll in front of us. «Hmmmm, I thought I ordered an Unagi nigiri not an uni roll,» I said to chef Watanabe. He says«oh I thought you said uni not Unagi.» He also said its good and kinda implying that just go ahead and eat it bc an uni roll is about $ 9.50 for two of them. I figured I had uni before and it was pretty good and so I told him I will give it a try. Although I let him know that I still want my Unagi nigiri. He said«ok coming right up». The uni was delicious but my wife didn’t want to try it since she doesn’t like it. The Unagi and scallop hand roll was made much later so I thought he forgot about making them. When they given to us, it was nicely presented. Both were also pretty good. At this point I was still not satisfied but I decided not to order anymore bc the service was very slow. I told the waitress to just give us the check. It came out to $ 67 which wasn’t bad but the service wasn’t all that good and the food was just a little above average. I wish I didn’t order the salad bc that was atrocious. I don’t even want to feed that salad to my pet bunny. The wife and I got up and no one even said thank you to us. If I come back here I might just order the nigiri. They need to work on better customer service and getting the customers food out efficiently.

I didn’t use to mind the overpriced menu because the service was good… now, Ju Hachi doesn’t even have that. On 3÷11÷2016 at 2:00:39 I picked up an over the phone order. The receipt says my server was«mariah.» This was the first time I’ve had any complaints about this place, but it looks like there have been lots of staff changes. This«mariah»(white woman with really short dark hair) acted as if serving me was the most dreadful chore imaginable. Not even half a smile… Not even a «thank you.» It wasn’t even like they were extremely busy or anything… she was talking w/the other server(with short blonde hair) as she was getting my stuff. She was fine with her. I guess she’s only allergic to customers. I would love to see how she conducts herself w/difficult customers. I can’t even imagine. I was shocked and almost tempted to say, «Thank you for your business,» but just picked up my order and left… for good.

I have been to many sushi joints in the City and all over California this place stands out. I will not go to Mikunis so in comparison this place is legit. I really like how many different options they have here like the Ziggy roll which has a different ingredients that I’m not use to seeing in the menu. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Next time I’m in town I will be visiting this place.

I just had bluefin sea steak … Eat your heart out Sashimi variety is amazing Had a teriyaki salmon dinner that was the perfect balance of sweet without over shadowing the delicate flavor of the salmon. If your tired of the noise and the same dishes at Mikuni I highly recommend coming here Yes they offer blue fin

Amazing is a understatement, by far the best sushi experience I’ve ever had. I totally told the sushi chef whatever his recommendation are in any combination. I was so tuned to the taste that I forgot the name of these amazing creations. The sushi chef who’s name is Nick is very kind and super precise with his edible artistic concoctions. I don’t know if Unilocal will punish me for saying this but the fucking shit was AMAZING. Especially for the desert that he offered us.

This joint was FIERCE! I happily visited with a Groupon on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, and even around 2:30 pm they were still pretty busy — a great sign! The restaurant is just small enough to feel intimate but is very well appointed. Its location on the corner of a quiet street gives it a very seductive vibe, like you’ve just stumbled upon a fabulous secret. I always have to sample the sake(fresh salmon) nigiri at a new sushi place, and I was feeling a roll that day — the description of the Double Crabby Roll(fried shrimp, snow crab & cucumber, with crab legs, avocado, scallions & masago) was far too divine to pass up, despite the silly name. My sake came first and it was dazzling, and plated beautifully. As was visible, the fish was SO fresh and succulent, just melt in your mouth heavenly. My crabby roll followed shortly after, and it was just as visually stunning in a different way! Beautiful, rolled perfectly, and generously portioned without going over the top. I loved that the fried shrimp inside wasn’t tempura as expected, but instead panko fried! It added such nice crunch and color. And the REAL fresh crab inside, and luxurious chunks of crab leg on top — oh man, what an absolute treat. Delicious, and perfectly satisfying, and again — oh so fresh! Just an overall great place, I cannot wait to return and try more food, made with such love and technique!

Sushi was bomb, got here in time for happy hour. The Susan roll is a must!!! So is the miso soup, the most flavorful miso I’ve ever had. And the teriyaki chicken portion was huge, and really sweet and smoky. So why the missing star? Well the restaurant smelled like urine, which is not an appetizing smell for me personally. Also, the rolls were pricey! $ 15 for an 8 piece roll is one of the priciest rolls I’ve ever gotten. Oh well, you get what you pay for. Most of the time…

2.5 stars, round up because I feel mean if I went the other way. I gave this place several tries before coming down with this review. I have to say that while the service was impressive, on time and on point, very customer-oriented, the food left me very disappointed. First of all, anyone would balk at a plate of what came out to be a fat roll of rice, basically, and still have to pay $ 13 for«sushi». It was the salmon sushi roll, and it was not only mostly rice, it was 5 slices of this ginormous, very unconventionally sized roll(still yet, it was still just RICE). So disappointed. I do think their ramen is reasonable and their broth pretty decent. However after trying it several times, I’ve decided that while their tonkatsu broth is good and very authentic and rich, everything else in there is whatever and cheap. A few chashu slices and skimpy spinach leaves… Not impressed. Overall the quality of the food was in the crapper. It was not good at all. Half-hearted effort. The service however was top notch. So I feel bad writing such a critical review when the staff members are apparently trying so hard. But the food needs a major tune up. Even for Sacramento standards, it was pretty unacceptable.

The sushi was above average and the portion sizes were large, but frankly it was on the expensive side for what they give you. Also, my poor roll was practically drowned in sauce… the flavors were OK together, but again I’d like to taste my fish! The service was great — both people behind the counter were super friendly.

I’ve been told numerous times to come to Ju Hachi and I’ve finally got to try it out after a year of people repeating the same thing over and over again. + Food Phenomenal Chicken Wings! Crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside, the Taka’s Wings were amazing! The added sauce gave it a little creamy kick(not spicy at all, don’t worry about that…). I don’t think they have them on their regular menu — only for Happy Hours. Also, great deals during Happy Hours for drinks! I also ordered the Double-T Roll(Sushi Masters Event Roll). Really interesting combination of usual seafoody-sushi ingredients(includes Tuna, Crab, Avocado) rolled in an egg roll wrap. The texture of the wrap was similar to eating a Chinese egg roll. The added teriyaki and spicy cream sauce saturated the dish with some sweetness and savoriness. The food was also presented elegantly and with obious attention to details. Definitely something to try! + Service Good service and friendly, attentive staff. Came by every now and then to ask us how we were doing, how the food was, and to fill our cups with water. Not disappointed at all.

The sushi chefs are cool… Real chill and fun to talk to!!! Tommy is cool… He’s the one that always sports the hat… Today he was rocking the bulls hat!!! Jeff is also cool! He’s the one with the cool facial hair! Tommy made our rolls and he did an awesome job! There was also misty who has really nice make up on especially her eyes… Well… That’s what my lady said! She was also very nice and made our experience here very pleasant! We ordered the Shelly roll and had it deep fried! So delicious and the creamy garlic sauce was awesome!!! We also ordered the spicy d which was excellent and the red tuna was so fresh! We then ordered the double t roll! It’s a roll that is wrapped with egg roll wrap! It was good but I like my first roll better! Lastly, we ordered a tempura udon which was great!!! The broth was excellent and the tempura was good size! Lastly, they have a tv to watch all the games especially the NBA playoffs! The sushi chefs all look professional and passionate! We will definitely be back! Ask for Eddie! He’s the man!

Been wanting to try this place and bought the groupon to get a better deal. Made a reservation because I didn’t know how busy they might be on a Friday night. It is a very small cozy little sushi restaurant. Our server was super sweet and very smiley which is always a huge plus. With all the delicious looking items on the menu, it took us awhile to figure out what to choose. I ended up with Ziggy Roll which was yummy and had little bits of apple for a nice crunch and the salmon sashimi was perfectly cut in nice thick slices like I like. All paired with hot sake. We split the Tempura Cheesecake which was a nice sweet end to our meal.

I did one of those AYCE sushi deals at another highly rated sushi spot and it almost ruined sushi for me forever! It’s been about a year since then and I was looking for my fish fix. Not being a very adventurous eater, I tend to stick to the boring rolls. This usually works in my favor as most of them are featured on Happy Hour menus. Imagine my surprise when I discovered Ju Hachi has a Saturday Happy Hour! Yay! 3 really fresh rolls for $ 15.00($ 5.00 each). Many other small appetizer offerings and $ 3.00 Bud Lights. I sampled the miso soup and was pleased, normally not a fan but this one was delicious. Service was excellent. Friendly and speedy and best of all, attentive! I am coming here for HH from now on!
