Jo-Ann Fabrics

So, as a student I don’t understand why I would ever use my discount? It’s only 10% versus the usually 20−40% coupon! Corporate complaint aside, I can never find associates in the aisle at this location, and when I do, I feel like they are trying to avoid me and pretend to be other customers. Some of the cashiers are very nice, but I can’t say I have the best experience at the fabric cutting station. Upholstery section can be a little messy, but the clothing-​type and general fabric areas look well maintained. I personally don’t think there needs to be a cake decorating and garden décor aisle as big as the one at this location, because it has forever been empty when I go there, but I’m not paying for the space so meh. Looking for a specialty fabric, coupon-​friendly, self-​directed experience? Here we go.

This store needs to up its game. Dingy is an understament. Limited selection compared to Roseville or Elk Grove. If I don’t fall in love with a fabric for my projects, I have to spend the time and gas to go to Elk Grove or Roseville, thereby taking my tax dollars to another jurisdiction.

Love Joanne’s and all the treats they have in store. Manager Allison is awesome! She is always so friendly and helpful. She remembers her customers names and faces. The staff is extremely friendly as well. I am a forever customer.

The past five times that I have shopped at Jo Ann Fabrics I have been very upset with the person that checks me out. I usually pay in cash and they don’t seem to want to accept cash at Jo Ann Fabrics. I have encountered this all five times. I love the selection at Jo Ann’s but believe I will no longer shop there because I am always told that «most people don’t use cash these days». How interesting because Michael’s always accepts my CASH!

Came here to see if they had any Halloween decorations for my office. There was a small section for hallowed items, but most were 40% off… Score!

I was hesitant to come in here after seeing all the negative reviews. My experience here was great though. This was my first time in any kind of fabric store (unless you count Michaels) and I found every one to be pretty helpful.

Need more people at the fabrics measure area I left because there was one lady working there, who was nice but the other employees walking around doing nothing. Isn’t that where all the money is made in a fabric store? I don’t know what is happening to enthusiastic workers but this place needs a better managment

I have been staying in Sacramento with family for a few weeks and while I’m here I had the opportunity to visit Joann’s a few times. Each time people were very helpful and today was no different. Amanda was training some ladies to cut fabric and took the time to stop and show me where the invisible thread was. I didn’t know invisible thread existed. Thank you Amanda!

I’ve been coming here for sometime now and always has been a pleasant visit.
This last time they had everything I needed for my burlap twirl strings.
The manager was very helpful and guided me to all my items. Even at the check out I found a mobile coupon online and she said that wasn’t their coupon and explained it was falsely created. However, she still gave me the discount. I thought that was very sweet of her.
Overall I like this store. It’s not as packed and so far has everything I needed.
Definitely would go back and I’ll make sure I have valid coupons.

Not the best selection at this particular location compared to all the other Joann’s but I never run into any problems besides that. The staff is friendly and help me to the best of their knowledge with my questions. They also have a student discount program where you get 10% off on your whole transaction no matter of the items are sale or clearance. You can also use coupons on top of that which are easily found on
that yoy can show at the register off of your phone and they run a coupon every week. They are my go-​to first and then I go to Michael’s or my fabric stores in south Sacramento.

Jo-​Ann is a double-​edge sword for me. They have a huge inventory of fabric, ribbon and trim, buttons, sewing notions and (an increasingly better selection of) beading and jewelry supplies– so often they are a one-​stop shop that will have whatever supply I need for whatever craft projects I’m doing. Plus they always have sales on fabric and many other sections, and I love their aisles of seasonal décor.
But I hate going there because it is never a quick trip and god forbid you shop there on a weekend. There is little to no staff presence on the floor, there’s a huge line at checkout and the wait time at the cut counter is ridiculous. The last time I was there I waited 40 – 50 minutes to get 2 yards of fabric cut from a single bolt– SMH! I wish they would add more staff to the cut counter, or add a cut counter express lane so my 2-​minute order doesn’t have to wait behind the several quilters who have over a dozen bolts of fabric shoved into their carts.
Avoid weekends if possible, go to Jo-​Ann on weekdays for a less time-​consuming shopping trip.

The folks at this Joann are in it to win it. Great staff, great manager, they’re being flexible and taking care of the customers with care. At today’s visit I saw the manager in various parts of the store, adding staff and pitching in where needed. The staff were helpful, upbeat and professional. Still my go-​to craft supply store!

I visited this location looking for a needlepoint or embroidery kit. Upon walking in, I was assaulted by horrible smelling Christmas decorations/​candles and triggered my allergies and had me sneezing and coughing. I survived, and wandered up and down the aisles for a while, not even sure what section of the store to head toward. Everything seems organized when you glance at it, but if you really try to guess where something might be within the store, it is pretty hard to navigate. There were a handful of employees throughout the store that were having their own conversations and didn’t offer any help or greeting. I never did find what I came for, but found another craft set to buy. It was cheap and the line was quick, but I would rather shop online than come back here.

Rude front end manager. Store will only accept cash today. No sign on door letting you know this until you go to register. Ridiculous. Will NOT be seeing my business here again, that’s for sure!!!

Two things that jump out at me at every visit: the overwhelming smell of cinnamon, and the long waits.
There are plenty of fabrics to choose from, although their selection of patterns is abysmal.
The staff at the cutting station are perfectly adequate, some slightly nicer than the rest, but don’t expect too much.
Store seems dingy, but I think that’s required on their lease for any store in that parking lot.
Parking lot and front entrance have very little light. I have issues seeing when it’s dark so I always have to walk slowly if I’m visiting after dark.
Bonus star for always finding something on sale.

I prefer shopping at the Elk Grove location because of their slightly friendlier staff and large teacher section. When I’m in the area, I shop at the Arden location.
I have never had a good experience with Lorenda. She is not friendly nor helpful. It seems like no matter what the circumstance, she will not offer decent customer service.
Be prepared for a long wait at the registers. I’m not sure how bad the clerk: customer ratio must get before they call backup, but I strongly encourage them to reevaluate their system.

Man, two bad experiences in three days. Snotty cashier. I do not get talked to like that. I put down my selections and walked out. I’ll drive twice as far before ever shopping here again. The tone of voice and attitude just cost this store a customer. I’m headed to Michael’s right now.

Not the greatest Jo-​Ann store but if you need basic craft and sewing supplies, it is OK. Has the same generic JoAnn line of «special occasion» and fleeces but its seasonal fabric selection is pretty limited. Organization is… lacking, so be prepared to wander aimlessly throughout half of the store to find something.
Staff at the cutting table are pretty nice. They may not be the most knowledgeable about sewing specific things but they are friendly and genuinely WANT to be helpful which I much prefer over knowledgeable but belligerent. Oh, and get a #. Very important.
Summary: Cutting service is ok if you do not have high standards. Selection is a little «meh.» Generic fabric/​craft store but at least they have coupons. Now, if only they had a better range of fabrics so I had something to use my coupons on.

This year I decided to put together my own Halloween costume since it was easy and wouldn’t take too much time. I needed some felt so we came to Jo-​Ann Fabrics. Wow, there are a lot of crafty people out there because the line for getting fabric cut was ridiculous.
I pulled a number before going to look for what we needed and returned a few minutes later to find the line still there. There were about 3 – 4 assistants behind the counter cutting fabric. My number was 35. The number 37 was on the number counter above and the lady calling numbers sounded like she was saying, «37» but really it was 27 as I was informed when I made an inquiry at the counter. TURN off the counter if it is broken and speak clearly so people know if it’s their turn! The lady that helped me cut the felt was friendly and so was the one leaving the store but I’m thinking face to face personal service is different from general service. Especially when you have a quick questions and workers are staring at a long line. If I ever need fabric again, I’m sure I’ll return to this store as they have many fabrics and crafty supplies. I hope the workers are less stressed and in a better mood next time.

I have definitely experienced better, as you know, but the lady that cut my fabric was so pleasant and informative that I feel guilty leaving this as a one-​star review. One-​star reviews should be saved for the absolute worst of the worst.
I didn’t see the Wicked Witch of the West here either last visit so hopefully she moved to Uzbekistan or to some other place that I am unlikely to go.
I recommend getting help from Gloria in the fabric section. She cuts the fabric very fairly along the grain and allows you to inspect your piece a bit, so you don’t get home ready to stitch it up only to have a big slash on the fold because some dummy decided it would be a good idea to open a box of fabric with a razor blade. Some people have no sense. I have daydreams about bitch-​slapping people that do careless things like open boxes of pillows with a knife. WAKE UP! If my Mom caught me doing something that dumb, let’s just say that I would not be getting away with it.
If Gloria’s not there, good luck. She just cuts your fabric, makes sure it is a fair cut, and that’s it. The lady at the check out got me some extra coupons for my items too since the ones I had were one day expired. So at least I got my 80% marked-​up merchandise marked down 40%. Man. One day I would like to not be getting constantly ripped off and screwed.
I will upgrade my review if I get confirmation that the unhelpful scissors queen retired.
