Kimchi here is what they’re known for. So good~~ Got some Shikhe too. It’s a Korean rice drink. There’s beats the one I had in Korea haha. Sooooooo good on a hot day. Very refreshing, not too sweet. And I’m guessing its healthy since it’s made out of rice. One of my favorites. I love them. That’s all haha super nice. Everything is fresh.

Found this place by accident, they are located in the same shopping center as, Pine Tree Restaurant. I saw this place as I pulled up to Pine Tree and was wondering what kind of business this was? I searched the Unilocal reviews, and read that they have freshly made spicy kimchi! They sell kimchi, freshly made kimchi in big jars $ 8.99, for the smallest. They also sell banchan(Korean side dishes). Realizing that they have maintained their store for the past, five plus years with little, or no publicity, they must be doing something right! I bought a jar of their kimchi, the kind man who spoke little English, was more focused on his Korean TV Show than to help foreign customers. I tried to ask him some questions, and he replied, «yes,» to every question. Kind of figure that he had no clue to what I asked him but that was okay, I just wanted the good stuff, «the kimchi!» Much to my dismay, that kimchi wasn’t spicy at all, and lacked taste. Oh well, lesson learned. I’m back on the prowl for the good stuff, again! For now, the kimchi at Trader Joe’s will have to suffice!

Yum Yum Yum Mi! SITREP Jin Mi is a great little(hole-in-the-wall) Korean Family Style Restaurant in my hood. From what I’ve seen in the evening, there is some great presentation for meals with larger groups of people. SETUP However, my few excursions have been during lunch hours when I’ve availed myself some great combo-box meals to go. Roasted chicken, steamed veggies, white rice, kim chi and other great delicacies for $ 7. The meals aren’t all that elaborate, but basic and filling. THELOWDOWN A great spot for a quick lunch stop outside of the fast food rut!

I find it totally incredible that my 2009 review is the most recent one for this shoebox-sized gem! Brilliant little boxes of banchan, giant jars of kimchi, fresh ddok, this place is ground zero for Korean food, period. Seriously, just grab a bunch of different stuff(insider tip: chapchae on Saturdays only!), go home and cook up some rice, and lunch or dinner is on! Plus, the place is run by a really sweet Korean couple who love to talk about their food. Support these local food producers who do it right! If I find out you bypassed Jin Mi and went to Panda Express, I will hunt you like a wounded water deer(indigenous to Korea) and sauté your organs in gochujang!

This little shop near Folsom and La Riviera is located in a shopping center with many Korean business — Cho Dang Tofu, Oak Doll Restaurant, etc. Its specialties are tteok(rice cake) and banchan(Korean side dishes — kimchi, etc.) which they make themselves. There also a little eating area there — I haven’t check to see what they serve. The owner is from Pusan and you can tell that the kimchi is hotter and more flavorful than the usual stuff you can get at Koreana Plaza.(The farther south you go in South Korea, the more chili and fish they use.) It’s as good a kimchi as I’ve found in America, if you like it flavorful. The kkakdugi is good too though the garlic flavor is so pungent I wonder if they flavor it with garlic oil rather than just with garlic. There’s other kinds of banchan as well. They make various kinds of rice cake: tteokbokki-tteok — little sausage-shaped rice cake, garae-tteok, big sausages of rice cake which one can slice diagonally for tteok-guk(rice cake soup), or bake as it is for something chewwwy. to eat. There may be various kinds of the sweet rice cake, depending on what they have at the moment. They are open Tues thru Sunday, closed Mondays.
