Ok. So this really only applies if you are a female, seeking color and if you have curly or unique hair. I can only speak to a very specific experience.
I called and tried to set up an in person consultation, but I was told over the phone was fine. I think this was the first red flag, but I figure they are the experts! I was given a price range and asked who could handle curly hair. It was expressed that it wasn’t an issue.
I came in for the service and that’s where things went downhill. I came in with my hair in its natural curly state and also expressed that I never straighten my hair. The picture of the ombré I desired and/​or served as a template had gentle waves, which I later found out that my stylist could not appropriately apply to my curly hair. Once the original color/​tone was applied, I picked up that my curly hair couldn’t be styled appropriately so I decided to leave with it wet. Bad decision on my part, I will admit! After I came home and it dried, I discovered the color was not at all what I wanted.
I called asking for my money back (150 $) and they offered to tone again. I came back in and if anything felt blamed by my stylist. I insisted that my hair be styled naturally to ensure I could see the color once dried. They didn’t have a diffuser anywhere in the salon. How can you ensure you can handle curly hair and not have a simple blow dry extension to accommodate?
I blame partly myself for trusting a barber shop but felt I was at least clear in the nature of my hair. There was a distinct lack of communication with me. I see a lack of ombré transition (hello two tone hair!) and I can only describe it as an expensive mediocre ombré. I will not be coming back.

Trendy place. Friendly people. Fast service with appointment. Missy was very accomodating and highly skilled of what she does. She got my haircut exactly what I wanted, low fade with side part. Highly recommended!

Great experience overall. My husband got a cut and I got a thermal styling both for a wedding we were attending later that day. We were running late and they accommodated us (thankfully they had had a cancellation just before we arrived). We were offered something to drink and I got a small bottle of water while I waited for my husband. He said he saw someone get a beer too.
His cut looked great and my style was pretty good. And good prices-​not super expensive like most trendy places. If we lived in the area we would definitely come back!

I used to go here regularly with my 7 year old son but was extremely disappointed to find that they raised their prices dramatically… like 25%. I was not notified of this until after we already got our haircuts. Plus they did not even offer a drink, shampoo, or hot towel. More money and less service. There are too many other barber shops around for me to pay that much.

I have come to Jimmy’s for a few months now and unfortunately, just as I was getting comfortable with this place, I feel I need to look for a new barbershop.
I felt this place offered a great service for the price. $ 18 for a haircut and $ 5 for a beard trim. In addition, you would receive a complementary beverage, shampoo, straight blade shave for the neckline, and a hot towel. As of December 1 of this year the prices increased significantly to $ 24 for a haircut and $ 8 for a beard shave. That’s a 33% price hike! You get what you pay for, right? Okay fine this place still seemed to have a great product so I was actually okay with the price hike until my haircut was finished and my services failed to include the shampoo, straight blade, and hot towel. So now I have paid 33% more than I did the last time I was here but the services I received were reduced.
This review was not written the day of my haircut, rather 48 hours later. During that time I have come to the conclusion that the missing services had little to do with the stylists and everything to do with the management of this company. The stylist (I won’t mention her name) did an excellent job on my cut. She’s a perfectionist though and spent a good amount of time making sure that my cut was to her standard. I have no problems with that. The problem is that the management wants the stylist to complete cuts in 30 minutes or less. As a result, although the cut was excellent, she ran out of time to offer the other services that I supposedly paid for — this was evident when the receptionist came up to her and asked her if she was almost done! I could tell she felt extremely rushed after that and her focus changed from making sure my services were complete to simply closing out the haircut.
I paid $ 9 more for less service than what this place provided the last time I was here. To me, this is not a good business model. I would love to continue to provide business to this establishment but I am not willing to pay more for less.

This placed started as a hidden gem, and now everyone knows about it. It seems that even on a late Monday evening the chairs are all full and people are waiting. The vibe is fresh and low-​key. The added touch of comfort (offering a water, glass or wine/​beer, or coffee) is part of what makes this place popular. (Details matter).
The stylists/​barbers are very diverse with an array of experience. The only reason I didn’t give five 5 stars is that, although the quality of haircuts is above average, I’ve had a few «less than ideal» experiences with stylists I didn’t know. The other issue is that every time I find a stylist I really like, they tend to quit. Perhaps they need to find more of an incentive to keep good stylists.
They’ve fixed the scheduling issues by having more stylists and being open 12 hours, every single day (genius!). It’s never a question of «I wonder if they’re open today?“Congrats to Rene and her team.

The before and after shots speak for themselves. Emily Carson is a genius and exactly the right fit for this almost 4 yer old.

I don’t know what all the bad reviews were are about. All of the stylist were very personable. The conversation wasn’t forced. Not only was it a fun experience, I also got a great haircut. The price was very reasonable and I was in and out very quickly. Definitely worth the visit.

So many mixed feelings about this place.
I heard about it when a barber from here was dining at my restaurant. I asked her if she was a hair stylist and she said she worked here. She was super friendly. I needed a cut right away so I went straight here after work.
Beforehand, I read a lot of neat stuff about the place. I also read a lot of things I didn’t like. Gave it a chance anyways.
The good:
Aesthetically pleasing. Some friendly people working there. Complementary drinks, but I don’t drink.
The bad:
I can’t stand the hipster vibe. Whatever, it’s stylish and stuff. But the whole hipster, too cool for everything attitude is super annoying. My barber (Maricela) was kinda friendly. Kinda had a monotone attitude the whole time. It felt as if she was reading a script for something called «Things to say while cutting hair.» She just seem very bored and uninterested the whole time. It was obvious that she’d rather be somewhere else at the moment. The lack of communication and interaction with me really made it difficult on knowing what to do or where to be the whole time. Then at the end, the lady I owed money to seemed even more annoyed to be there. Never made eye contact which I found very unprofessional. When asked if she could break a $ 5 so I could leave a tip, I handed her a $ 5, and she just threw 5 $ 1’s on the desk. I’m sitting there like, «what just happened». Kinda regret leaving a tip, but whatever
Bottom line, I will come again, but I’ll try another barber. After reading all the praise, I really want to experience what everybody else was raving about.
Plus I didn’t get the cut that I wanted. It’s entirely not like what I asked for. During the cut, I could see my barber and the barber next to us constantly making rude faces and gestures at my hair. It made me very uncomfortable. Plus as I was walking out of the places, I just kept getting dirty looks from a few barbers. Now that I think about it, I started this review with 3 stars, and now I’m down to 1 cause the more I look at my hair, the more pissed off I’m getting.

First, Jimmy’s. Such a cool, hip place for a haircut. Staff always greets with a smile, offers up complementary beverages (including beer and wine) while you wait, and is usually on time (MUST make appointments; it’s a pretty busy place, so walk-​ins are rare.)
Next off, Jay. What a sweetheart! She did an amazing job on my first cut, but I let her change up my style the second time around, and she did not disappoint. Highly recommend a go with this gal!

Spot looked great but I was told there wasn’t an opening for a men’s walk-​in cut during normal operation hours.
I dropped by at 6pm on a Sunday so it’s probably best to make reservations.
Bummed.the place looks fun.

My son got his hair cut here twice. Both times they did a great job, but customer service is about 2 stars.
The staff working the front are pretty stuck up (one guy was nice when we walked in once). It’s a barbershop, but the customer service is more like a stereotypical cliquey tattoo shop. Also, you can’t make weekend appointments ahead of time-​you have to book online the night before. FYI: Some people need to plan ahead!
This shop seems to cater to folks up late Friday deciding last minute they’ll get a cut the next day.
We most likely won’t be back.

I’ve never had a haircut quite like this one! Emily did a phenomenal job! If you’re interested in coming to place where you’re going to get the best haircut, by an amazing barber, in a great atmosphere, then Jimmy’s is the place to go.
Jimmy’s is more than a place to get haircut. They truly create an experience. ¹¹⁄₁₀ I cam coming back!

Had a wonderful experience here! Was recommended by my bf who got his haircut here about a week ago. Saw a Unilocal post on a pixie cut that Jordy did so I booked her to give me one as well. She recommended to try a short bob first and I’m glad I listened! Although I’m still set on getting the pixie cut, I love the short bob just as much… sometimes you need to be saved from yourself.
I will definitely be telling everyone I know. And I definitely will be returning!

I had a terrific experience at Jimmy’s. I had been growing my hair out for almost 2 years, and decided I wanted to cut it and donate it. I called ahead, and they put me on the list for the afternoon. When I came in, they weren’t aware I was going to do the donation, which they said would take more time and I may have to wait. I waited about 30 seconds and they fit me right in. Off to a great start.
Chavez greeted me and took me back to a chair. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. I explained what I was looking for, and he prepared the hair that would be donated. There are pictures collaged all over the walls, so there were plenty of images I could point to as examples of what I wanted. Chavez then proceeded to give me the best haircut I’ve received in quite a long time. I usually experience some lack of communication when I get a haircut, and I don’t quite get what I was picturing in my head. This time I got the best version of exactly what I was looking for when I decided to get it cut. Thank you so much!
tl;dr: Great service, excellent haircut, fair prices — will definitely return.

The first time I met Emily and was about to have her cut my hair I showed her a picture of what I like and she sent me home and said come back next week when your hair grows, I was shocked because this has never happened and she could have easily taken my money but she did not. Well I came back the following week and she cut my hair exactly like the picture that’s when I knew she is stuck with me ;)
To be honest I never really leave reviews The only other review I ever left was for pinkberry because I love it so much.
Today it’s been over a year since I have been getting my hair cut with Emily and so I will take the time and leave you a review because time and time again she has cut my hair better then anyone and I thank you! keep in mind I have been all over the world over and over and got my hair cut all over and so far you kill the competition hands down. Emily your are the best if it was not for you I would not know what a good hair cut looks like. Every time I get my hair cut people always ask me where do I cut it I tell them at jimmys garage ask for Emily and tell her you want Mohammad’s hair cut she know ;) matter of fact this is what reminded me to leave this review I just walked into Nordstroms and this guy walked up to me and asked where I got my cut I was like the one and only Emily at jimmys garage.

I found this place on Unilocal and chose it because of the great rating.
We’re new to the area and my boys needed a cut before school started for the year. they’re soccer players and they like to emulate their favorite players. I was a little worried that our chosen stylist wasn’t going to be able to give them the look they wanted but alas, I was worried for nothing! My boys got their desired cut and then some!
Thomas was (and will continue to be) their stylist. Right away he was friendly, making eye contact and listening to what they wanted for the cuts. He was very personable, asking my boys what they liked to do and what not which made them feel comfortable. Before we even left the salon my oldest was asking if I could take him back for his next haircut! That’s saying a lot.
They only take same day appointments which is nice since you can get seen right away. The atmosphere is hip and friendly. They really get the customer service aspect of business. For the price you can’t go wrong!

After I set up an appointment after I came back to Sacramento, I need a fresh fab haircut as my hair grows larger every month. As I entered, the atmosphere is very indie made with incredible vintage artworks and accessories.
I managed my haircut appointment in no time until a barber, Sonny introduced me for the very first time. He’s very friendly and energetic with an on-​going type feel on it. One of the good thing that he has done, is he cleaned and washed my hair for a free request! I’m glad I avoid Season Salon (at the South Sacramento neighborhood) for the past several visits which they don’t offer washed my hair that leaves my hair pieces go crumbled! Additionally, he also applied the hair promenade to keep my trimmed hair fresh and new, and of course, the promenade smells like pure nature. Oh, it’s very refreshing.
The cost for the haircut is nearly costly, but it’s a well worth spending after I used a discount offer for checking in.
In the end, Jimmy’s Barber Garage is a coolest, awesomest place to get a good haircut or simply renew your hair that women and men will be appreciate! Highly recommend for this Midtown barber shop! I’ll come back for more!

I have been coming here to get my haircut for the last few months or so. I normally get my haircut by Emily, and she has done an awesome job every time!
I love this place so much that I decided to take my groomsmen here on the day of my wedding so we could all get fresh shaves and haircuts. Emily wasn’t working this specific day, so I got set up with Jordy and I was not disappointed at all! She took her time and gave me the perfect cut which I really appreciated on my wedding day.
We also had our photographer take some pictures during our haircuts and shaves so I will post a few because this place also looks awesome.
