Unlike the previous reviewers, I have a bit of a different issue. Before that though, everything that I see them writing about the wait seems absolutely correct given my observations when I’m in the office. I’m grateful that I don’t have to meet with staff at the office, knock on wood.
The only time I go into the office is to get forms to do my taxes. I’m an old guy that still does them manually on paper. h I have a tax situation that’s a bit more complex then probably the average return, but not overly terrible. But do need a number of different forms and several copies of each because mistakes do happen. It started last year and continued much worse this year. The office does not stock the full array of their most basic tax forms. I’m talking about things like the 1040, schedule a, schedule B, schedule D, and a lot of the other reporting documents. My experience it is that there will be some of certain forms there and then none of the other critical forms. Same with the various instruction sheets. I’ve made two trips in there from downtown Sacramento this year. Both times the same. A limited number of forms and sign saying to download them yourself. The situation is worse because IRS no longer mails the tax booklets out I understand. I’ve never viewed the IRS as a consumer friendly operation, and it’s only gotten worse this year.

Aside from a long wait (which I expected,) my experience was excellent. I arrived at about 930am and waited for about two hours to get to see a rep. I met with S.W. who was very friendly and knowledgeable. She had my frozen refund unfrozen in about ten minutes. I’d previously spent hours on the phone trying to resolve this. The office seemed to operate in an organized manner and the security guard was also helping people.

As I sit here pondering why I ended up in this situation, actually forgiving myself for getting into this financial mess. I have to wonder how the workers continue to come to work well even though it’s my second day I’ve only met two people… The Security Guard and the Receptionist who both have wonderful personalities even dealing with numerous individuals with terrible attitudes. I’ve decided to just sit back and watch the show!

So let’s make it clear.
If you are going for your tax, income and wage transcripts. You go any time between 830: to 4:30.
But if u have some issue with the taxes or making any correction. You better be here at 6:00AM morning. Yeah. Otherwise you won’t get a chance to talk to any member about your problem.
Cause I wanted only my transcripts and I came before 7 am, which I waisted waiting for hours, I could have come anytime to fill the form.

Worst place ever… had to go there 4 times to get THEIR error changed on my transcript! First 2 visits — my number never came up (523 and 519). The next 2 visits I got there at 5 in the morning and was first in line. Everyone in line has a bad IRS office story! Finally got what I needed 1 day before the my new home loan was submitted. I literally spent 21 hours there that week! Freaking unbelievable!!!

I didn’t have a bad experience. I accepted that I had to get there at 7am (they open at 8:30am) and even then I was 6^th in line. I get that could be a down fall but truthfully most of the time the reason for having to go to the office is due to a delinquency on our part. I accepted I would be waiting. When the doors opened at 8:30am, there were about 45 people in line and the first three people where immediately seen so I was bumped to 3^rd in line. I was seen at 9:15am (45 minute wait) by Mr. Bonetti. He was kind and polite and made me feel like I was in the best care possible. Let’s be clear, I didn’t approach him with a bad attitude. I knew he was going to be my advocate if I was calm and respectful and he helped me take notes and made sure he answered everyone of my questions.
If you can avoid being in a position to have to go to the IRS office (aka file your taxes, AND on time!) then you should do that. It’s a long wait and unless your prepared I can imagine tests many people’s patience. I watched an episode or two on Netflix to help with the wait.
I only deducted one star for the wait time.

If I could give a negative number rating I would!!! How is it on a Monday that the office has 12 booths and only 3 – 4 of them are actually being occupied??? Hire more people!!! Tried the online services but that doesn’t neither just like the IRS!!! Get here early bring headphones and ur iPad or or whatever to entertain you… It’s gone be a long long wait! The beauty of being a Working American tax payer…
GET YOUR STUFF RIGHT IRS!!!

Get there at 7 – 8. Be one of the firsts in line. Doors open at 8:30. Bring a book or an iPad. Expect to wait 2 – 3 hours. BRING HEADPHONES. this is my advice. I you can do your stuff online. Make it happen. This place is the DMV x 10

I admit that the IRS makes it very hard to speak to a live person, which is a big bummer. I spent 6+ hours on hold and was disconnected at 8pm PT when the office closed (and yes, I was nearly in tears). BUT today, I was able to reach someone (Mrs. Efferson/​agent #1 000 180 967) and she was wonderful. Not just because she was a real person — although that was a good start — she was patient in listening to my case and accessed my file, explained where my case was in the process, and what to expect next. I wasn’t looking for anything more than that, and she was really clear about the steps that needed to be followed. In a five minute call, I got what I needed and I was on my way. In the spirit of public reviews, I think it’s important to acknowledge the bad and good experiences — and this one ended on a good note. Thanks, IRS (never thought I would write that).

I hate to be negative but there’s gotta be a better way to get thru to these people! I had to wait 1:45mins just to have the person at the desk say to me… call this no. or you can wait 3hrs to see a rep. I notice and heard others saying they just wanted to ask a question. Seems like they could post a «FAQ» bulletin so you don’t waste you time or have some more help at the counter. Yes, it’s worse than DMV, at least you can make an apptm’nt with them. As far a speaking to a live person on the phone… wishful think. On the phone you might only have to wait 45min!!!

Can’t reach on phone (tells me to call back another time after waiting a while). Filled form on bill to have someone call me but no one did. So I guess only option at this point is to go into an IRS office.

They put you on hold forever and constantly transfer you over and over.

Insensitive IRS pawns that are told by the almighty powers in Washington to collect taxes no matter what. Do they really care about the tax paying Americans who pay for their jobs and health care… they are exempted from Obama care. Sit behind a desk and give #800’s and tell you your on your own. I tried to take care of my father’s taxes and all I got was silence. The wait is terrible and the location is a little difficult to find. Second rate government hole. Dish money out for all the illegals but where is
the help for people who are born in this country.

The waiting in line was such a delay. Waited for 1 hour 30mins just to get my transcript. There isn’t that much employees on their cubic.

I initially tried to resolve my issue by calling the 1 – 800 number, however after being on hold for 1 hour and 25 minutes I was informed that I had to go into the nearest location. I had been dreading and putting off a visit to the IRS office, but finally had to get down to business and go.
Just in case you were wondering, visiting the IRS is just like visiting the DMV but without the option of making an appointment ahead of time. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and there were only two people in line ahead of me.
After checking in I was given a number and instructed to wait in the lobby until called. I settled in expecting a very long wait but surprisingly I only had to wait about 40 minutes. I know this may seem long, but I was counting on a minimum two hour stay. Once in the little booth with the IRS agent my issue was resolved within 10 minutes and I was on my way with the rest of my day! I suppose the easy of resolution depends on the nature of the problem, fortunately mine was a paper error on the part of the IRS.

Actually, not too bad. Boo for me writing an IRS review, but I had to give them props for friendly service today.
Since I am actively doing tax resolution for my clients, I couldn’t help but wonder what the «Big Bad» IRS looked like on the inside.
This field office is pretty upgraded and it had all the lovely features that reminded me of the DMV — a long line, numbers being called, and of course security.
However, the staff was amazingly pleasant and answered all the questions I had about the tax return I was filing. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes (maybe this was a good day) but I was completely impressed. There’s always ample parking at this location.

Yeah no one likes the IRS. 3 stars just because the wait on the phone is insane. Waited 1 hour to speak to someone for only 7 minutes.
Guy on the other end was very friendly and very helpful. That’ll get him at least a 3 star. Still hate the wait.

It bites big time when computers are down, especially at the IRS. And what’s up with a phone number that refuses to have a live person to speak with? (Heck, if a dead IRS agent could help me from beyond, I’d be cool with that)
I visited the office because I need a copy of my transcript (what is this, high school?) for financial aid, and lo and behold, their computers were down. And the jovial, but totally inane agent (watch me get audited now…) gave me a phone number to call, but without a live person to speak with… WTH?
I found it a bit too coincidental that their computers went down a half hour before closing time on a Friday… hmmm

I’m giving this place 3 Stars because of several things… 1) It’s an IRS building — The IRS should seriously stop magically charging those who are already struggling with mysterious fees that range into the high hundreds to the thousands… 2) The counter-​attendant looked and acted too powerful even though he was clearly just a button pusher… 3) The wait is RIDICULOUS and the number calling had no real/​logical system… And lastly 4) LET PPL BRING IN SOME WATER! Boy, you get parched waiting on those uncomfortable chairs for hours…
But on the plus side, once you get to speak with one of the REAL agents, it is seriously a calming experience. They are generally very quiet spoken and are VERY nice. They are efficient and are more than willing to help you «fix» your problems. I was very satisfied with my last visit here when I assisted with my parents with the magical fines the IRS threatened to jack from their accounts… the IRS can seriously suck my dick. I guess you can say that I’m not the biggest fan of this government department. lol :)
