Golden 1 Credit Union

I went here about 3pm and there was no wait/​line. The teller was in a good mood and very helpful. I like the way the building is layed out. The exterior windows makes the interior brighter with natural light. The parking lot is small and no street parking.

A Okay in my book! Came here to update my address on my account and as usual had pretty good service from the teller. Parking is a bit meh but I was in and out in no time.

Horrible service. Plan to wait an hour and be completely ignored if needing to work with a customer service rep.

I am not a fan of this location!!!
First off, the physical location of this branch is so awkwardly positioned on Stockton Blvd. There is only one entrance to the parking lot, a one sided lot of approximately 15 parking spots and one handicapped spot. At the far end of the lot is private/​permit parking, and this takes up about 6 slots, so really, there are only about 8 parking spots available for Golden 1 customers. Now this is a full service branch, so 8 parking spots at any given time is no bueno for a bank. What’s weird is the parking lot was jam packed and when I finally got inside, it appeared there were only about 4 – 5 customers. Does this mean the staff have to park in this lot as well?
Getting back to the parking situation… the first time I came it was in the morning, maybe 10:00am ish. I entered the lot, waited patiently, then saw I was not going to get anywhere, I had to drive to the end of the lot, pull into an unoccupied permit only parking spot and reverse out in the opposite direction so I could come out the way I came in. People were illegally parked against the curb where there are no parking spaces, so it made for an even more tight and cramped maneuvering situation. I decided to return later that day, in hopes the traffic would lighten up. Exiting the parking lot is just as difficult as looking for one. The only exit is situated only about 50 feet away from the intersection. It does not sit exactly at the intersection, so the only way to exit, is to be extremely careful and make sure there are no cars coming your way. The street bends a bit so you cannot see oncoming cars from a distance, you only have about 100 feet of hoping there are no cars speeding around the corner. Also, the median is double lined, so technically, you cannot cross traffic to go the opposite direction. Ugh…
So I returned later the in the afternoon and landed up right where I began, in the same parking lot situation. The lot was backed up as there were still people illegally parked parallel on the non-​parking side of the lot. I decided to squeeze into a permit only space. Immediately, a woman came out of the medical office neighboring the bank. She walked right up to my window stating, «You can’t park here, look, it’s permit parking only, You’re going to get towed.» Ugh… for the love of Pete!!! There were PLENTY of permit parking spots available, but I understand, if she allowed one, she would have to allow all… whatever. FINALLY, after waiting several minutes (which felt like several hours) I found a spot, but not before witnessing a lovely hoodrat «swoop» on a parking spot this lady was patiently waiting for. This lady was signaling for the spot, and the other car was illegally parked in the handicapped spot. When he too saw the spot had cleared, he moved his car in front of the lady’s car and took her spot. Then, he got out and said something to her to intimidate her. Geez… really.
When I finally got inside, the wait was fair. The inside décor of the bank is badly outdated. If this were the only Golden 1 around I would go out of my way to find another bank that seems more warm and welcoming. Fortunately, the teller was very nice. I have worked with him before and he always has a smile on his face. Thankfully, I only have to come once a month to pay rent. I, however, will not be visiting this branch again and will make sure to deposit at another branch.

Okay. Okay. I know that parking lots are NOT the primary business of Golden 1, and for the most part, most other locations have great lots and/​or ample street-​side parking.
Not this one. This… lot…suuuuuuuucks. It’s across the street from UC Davis Medical Center — which should clue you into one congestion probem already, namely, nearly impossible (not legal) to make a left turn (doesn’t mean I don’t do it).
SETUP
But it’s got an ATM, a serviceable counter, and friendly peeps. So I’m not gonna skew the whole rating on something secondary. Just one star.
THE LOWDOWN
Fix the dam lot! Jeebus.

I’ve only been using the Stockton Blvd. location for a couple of years and have only had really good service 1 time. Of course, that 1 person is no longer there and the remaining employees that I’ve worked with are either brand new and don’t know what they’re doing, lazy or just apathetic towards their customers.
I have many other complaints about Golden 1 in general as its service to its customers has declined over the years. Namely: lousy loan rates, monthly checking fees (without notice) and possibly criminal Visa account practices.
I’ve started switching to another credit union and once I have all of my affairs in order, I’m completing that process. I can’t believe they’ve treated longtime, loyal customers (who happen to have excellent credit) this way.
