I signed with Sonny without reading reviews and going off my face to face interview. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Afterwards, I saw the reviews and became a little nervous. However, every time I contacted Sonny, he responded within the week. He set up a meeting with me to confirm the correct music and even came to my rehearsal to make sure my husband and I felt comfortable. At the reception, he was great and at the end of it I had friends tell me I hired an awesome DJ. I couldn’t have been happier at the end of the night. As far as the price, he’s priced about the same as other DJ’s but he’s competitive and you should tell him the prices for other DJ’s rates. I was able to get him to come down on a package price a bit because another DJ was lower. The other DJ’s personality irritated me so when Sonny said he could do the same price, I didn’t even look any further. I’m just going to have to assume the bad reviews below are because of bridezillas or something because I personally had a great experience and will recommend him to friends getting married in Sacramento in the future.

Sonny came highly recommended from our wedding planner. We even met with him AND her. We all got along so well. My husband and he shared old war stories, he offered us a military discount, and showed us beautiful lighting ideas that we were so excited to have at our wedding. A day passed, a week, a couple of weeks. Our planner tried contacting him over and over. Finally, she referred us to Extreme Productions, which was the best decision we made for our wedding. Even our planner was disappointed and said she never did hear from him. Initially, I asked her if he was okay. Perhaps a family tragedy explained the absence? That doesn’t seem to be the case as others have clearly had trouble with this establishment.

Brides and grooms steer clear of this business. We met Sonny right before the New Year and we thought he was great. Apparently he had a great reputation at one time, but if you ask around these days, his reputation has steadily declined. Right from the get-​go there were red flags. He didn’t sent the contract for us to sign, we had to ask for it, he never confirmed his appointments, I had to do it. And, when we did meet he was very distracted (texting, seemed agitated, etc) and did not make us feel like he was going to provide a top notch performance at our wedding. As the MC, he is one of the most important vendors. Since we lost confidence in his ability to perform we decided to sever the contract. This is when things became increasingly more bizarre, we asked due to non-​performance that he refund a portion of our deposit and that we would not review his services. Rather than giving us a yes or no answer he claimed that he was reviewing the matter with his lawyers — weeks have gone by, we still have no response. He did send us one weird 3am time stamped email several weeks ago whining about our claims and stating that he was going to review our request for a partial refund. He is no longer returning our wedding planner’s email/​texts/​phone calls. It is very unprofessional.
We have now hired a new DJ and we have learned that the deposit that Sonny requires is MUCH higher than other DJs. Most DJs ask for 25% of the total, Sonny required 50% of the total. My only wish is that no other couple has to use his services only to decide they have made a mistake and lose their deposit and have to scramble to find another DJ (plus the cost). There are a lot of great DJs in Sac, as of right now Sonny is not one of them.
