Great food! Great coffee! Great Service! I will be back! The breakfast I had came with home fries. I rarely like home fries, but these (and the food that came with it) were excellent!

My experience at Evan’s was quite pleasing. I arrived around 10 to grab some breakfast and asked for a table for one. I was seated immediately, and began to view their selection. For a breakfast restaurant, their many options were satisfactory. I was approached for drinks swiftly, and the staff was inviting. When I finally made a decision for breakfast, I ordered the Californian Eggs Benedict with avocado and tomatoes with a side of fresh fruit.
The dish was brought out in a reasonable time and the food tasted nice. Not melt-​in-​your-​mouth, but satisfactory enough. My was water was refilled frequently and one of the best aspect was the live clarinet. My tab was managed quickly and I left with a complimentary mint to spare. Overall, a happy and pleasurable experience. Thanks!

The crab cake benedict is amazing!!! This is a pretty good place for brunch. The décor/​atmosphere is like having breakfast inside an old fashioned American home, so it gives you a home kinda feel. They have a pretty large brunch selection and they have lots of different benedicts to choose from if your a fan of them! I’ve had the traditional, ny steak, and crab cakes benny which are all amazingly delicious. The service is also pretty good here, the servers are friendly and attentive. Overall this a nice place to have brunch!

I am always down to find a new breakfast spot to rave about and I am sad to say that Evan’s Kitchen wasn’t one of those spots.
I told myself that I was going to love Evan’s Kitchen because they had a huge selection of eggs Benedict. Eight to be exact! I would consider myself an Benedict enthusiast (if that’s a thing) LOL.
I came in for breakfast with a couple of friends the other day; arriving at the door on the dot of them opening. Seeing the «please wait to be seated» sign at the door, the three of us stood there awkwardly as other patrons who came in after than us, walked passed us and sat themselves. When we finally got our table, service wasn’t bad but it wasn’t all that inviting either.
What really caught my attention was the crab cake Benny. I ordered mine with a chipotle hollandaise. The reason why Evan’s Kitchen failed me was the fact that their poached eggs were more like super soft boiled eggs. When I cut into my eggs, there was no oozing, no yellow, golden waterfall of yolky goodness!!! The hollandaise was alright but, I felt like I needed a little more because the whole dish was kind of dry. The crab cakes were really good though.
We also ordered a French toast. It was on the soggier side, and was a little too bland for my taste. The vegetarian frittata was alright but nothing too special.
Overall my experience here was neither an epic fail or an epic win.

You have to try the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fried egg and avocado. YUM! Get here early because there’s always a line. Really good food and the staff was super nice. They are all just amazingly friendly.

I’ve always wanted to come here for breakfast/​brunch as it’s a popular institution in Sac. We asked to sit outside at first as it was a nice day out. But it was windy and stuff was flying around so we relocated ourselves inside. It had a homey feel. We sat right next to the older man playing his clarinet, which we didn’t mind. Make sure you bring cash to tip him. It was so cute when he went to a table and played happy birthday for one of the diners.
Now onto the food. I was hungry, so I ordered The Starvin’ Marvin– chicken-​fried steak with two eggs. Toast was included, but I upgraded to biscuits and gravy. It also came with your choice of home-​fries or fresh fruit. I ordered the fruit as a way to balance my heavy meal. The gravy-​!!! I loved the pieces of sausage in the creamy gravy. The steak was crispy. I had to take a nap afterwards– food coma. Come early, because there was a lot of people waiting for a table when we left.

We’ve been coming every week for a month.
Waited an hour today. So upset. We saw 2 tables order after us today and they got their food before us.
I notified our waiter and he says they are waiting on the potatoes. We waited patiently. And finally got fed up and made a complaint.
The waiter said there’s a mix up it will be coming out. But why wasn’t it addresses when the issue was brought up? Why make us wait again. STARVING HERE. I might be hangry but worst service ever!
The manager came out and said it was only a 20 minute wait from when the ticket went in. Are you sure cause we ordered as soon as we got our water. The manager gave excuse that the prior ppl’s order were simple like scrambled eggs etc. said that my monte cristo sandwich takes a while. So your telling me that the my food takes 20 minutes to cook yet you fail to warn a customer?
They offered to discount the food and free drinks. NOOO I want my food.
Super disappointed because I do love their food.
Returning is questionable

The ambiance inside this place is a tad outdated and a little dim as well. Ambiance is always a plus but it never carries weight on what I think of the food and service. Service wise we were simple patrons we never asked for much due to still being half asleep and tired from the previous night. I had the crab cake benedict. The crab patties were moist and flavorful. Call me a hungry SOB but I felt like I got skimped on potatoes. Overall the food was a tad better than decent but portion size was lacking.

A little bummed about rave reviews leading to what I had earlier.
It was OK… neither OMG good nor OMG bad. Tried to love it so hard, but it just didn’t happen. Ordered biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. They were good, but not anywhere near the awesomeness described.
Snagged some potatoes from across the table and swooped in to the chipotle hollandaise sauce. That was good, but still nothing to rave about.
The dining room, as small as it is, was completely full, so people were waiting outside. We ended up sitting outside and pleasantly discovered a heater just overhead. Sadly though, we were outside and the waitstaff service stunk accordingly.
They have a bunch of different kinds of eggs benedict. In no sort of hurry to come back, though. Maybe someday when they aren’t busy, but probably not.

I’m a new resident in Sacramento and the variety of restaurants to choose from are unbelievable.
Fortunately, my husband and I found Evan’s Kitchen and we are absolutely thrilled to have found it. I’ve had the amazing mushroom burger and the mouthwatering turkey avocado bacon sandwich. Let me say that they were both over the top delicious!
We will be back, and we highly recommend that you try this place soon!

This place is AMAZING! My husband and I ate here for the first time this past Thursday and this place is now our favorite breakfast spot in Sacramento! I’ve had this place bookmarked for the longest time and kind of disappointment in myself for waiting to long to go here. My husband ordered their country fried steak which was delicious! Very big portions here. I ordered the crab cakes Benedict and we both loved it! We can’t wait to come back and try more of the foods off their menu. Their customer service is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly and they’re on top of it with refilling our refreshments. Someone always cam around and ask if I wanted for coffee and they always refilled my husband water. We never had to ask. A definite must try.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go for brunch with his cousin and I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while, so off we went. I was initially afraid it would be really busy because it was already late (around 12:30 on a Sunday), but thought it would be okay because it was raining and figured people wouldn’t want to be out.
It is located in an old strip mall, so there’s a lot, but it was already pretty full. We managed to find a spot and ran inside because it was raining. Inside is kinda dark and VERY crowded. The tables in the center of the room are kinda squished together, but I understand that they’re trying to accommodate to as many people as possible. There was an old man playing the flute, which was kinda cool/​funny. There were some groups of people waiting, but lucky for us, since we didn’t care whether we sat outside, we were seated immediately. There are a few tables and a few bar stool seats out front. The wind picked up a couple times and we got kinda wet, but we were hungry so we toughed it out. We were on the bar stools/​counter seating, so it was kinda uncomfortable and we had limited arm movement, but oh well.
I asked the server whether she recommended the traditional eggs benedict or the crab cake benedict, and she said the crab cake benedict was awesome, so I went with that. She was RIGHT! I’ve never had crab cake benedict before and it was delicious! There was a lot of crab in it, not just filler, and the hollandaise was really tasty. The english muffins could have been toasted longer as they got a little soggy. Also, one poached egg was perfectly runny, but the other was a little over. It comes with potatoes or fruit, so obvi I got potatoes. I thought they’d be crispier, but they were still good and well seasoned. Overall, delicious dish and worth trying! My boyfriend thought it was «too rich» — he only had one bite and that was enough for him. I ate it all up and loved it, though I would probably try something else next time.
My boyfriend had the corned beef hash. He asked if he could order a half-​size of the biscuits and gravy, and the waitress suggested he substitute the toast that came with his meal for the biscuit and gravy. I thought that was very kind of her. Anyway, my sister had told me how good their biscuits and gravy were, but I wasn’t expecting them to be THAT amazing! They were the best we’ve ever had! My boyfriend and I both agreed that next time we would get the full order! He enjoyed the corned beef hash, but mentioned it was a little on the salty side.
His cousin ordered Mo Mo’s La Mexicana which is basically a mexican-​inspired omelette with chorizo, tomatoes, jalapeño, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. He ate it all up and said it was very good.
Overall, despite the rain, it was a great experience. Our food came out in about 30 minutes and we all loved the food and would return. I would return solely for their biscuits and gravy — so I definitely recommend that! Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable as well. This is definitely not a place to go to if you’re on a diet. I was put into a three hour food coma after eating here — consider yourself warned!
Note: tables already have ketchup, Tobasco, Cholula, salt, pepper, and jam (for toast), so that was nice.

This was my first time trying this place. My friends recommended that I try it.
Ambience:
A very cute mom & pops place. The restaurant is small in the inside and there’s only a few seating outside. The decorations has that «country» meets vintage feeling (maybe because the place is next to several antique stores).
Service:
We went during lunch and it was a bit busy. I would say we waited a good 10 – 15 minutes for our server to get our order. But she did get our drinks right when we sat down. She stopped by our table a few times to check on us and someone would always top our coffee.
Food:
I ordered the Starvin’ Marvin (Chicken Fried Steak). I really enjoyed this dish. The meat was tender and you can tell this what made from scratch and not some frozen patty. The gravy was great!
Overall, I would come back here again and recommend this place to others.

BEWARE: make reservations! It is ALWAYS busy. Always. Get there early if you can’t call in. It’s worth the wait, and there are excellent little shops surrounding it to keep you occupied in the meantime!
You will not regret it, the food is exquisite.

The venue is not large by any means so again, be prepared to wait for your amazing brunch.
Attire: Not super formal, if you don’t want to be the most underdressed there. wear nice jeans/​slacks, and a nice shirt.

You had me at Bottomless Mimosas. We won’t go into how many I drank, but let’s just say for a price tag of $ 9 Evan lost and I most definitely won.
Was in the area for brunch and we both were super hungry. The 45+ min wait with people camped out around the building at the other place we attempted was not an option, so after consulting other places I had bookmarked on Unilocal we came over and were seated with mimosas in hand within 20 min on a busy Sunday.
Totally worth the wait.
A glance at the Unilocal photos and brunch menu makes it clear as day that eggs benedict is what they’re known for. And damn do they do it well! I opted for Yodi’s Southwestern Benny with chipotle hollandaise. Delicious and a little spicy. The home fries were seasoned well and thankfully crispy.
Great, attentive and friendly service — we were checked on often. No complaints here.

Upon driving into the parking lot of Evan’s Kitchen & Catering, it was a little confusing at first because on one side of the parking lot is the actual restaurant, and all the way across the parking lot is the catering side.
I was planning on eating there so luckily I found the restaurant side. I was immediately seated and given a menu. The menu is humongous so I just asked my waiter to recommend me their best seller to which he said was the Starvin’ Marvin ($ 12.50). The Starvin’ Marvin consisted of chicken-​fried steak made to order (made with new york steak), two eggs any style, a side of home-​fries or fresh fruit.
The inside of the restaurant kind of reminds me of a Grandmother’s house. There are old school wooden tables, booths, and even the decorations just looked very grandmotherish. It was also very gloomy and dark for it being around 10:00am. I don’t know if that was the look they were going for or the place just needed to be updated.
I didn’t have to wait too long for my food. It came out in a timely manner and was steaming hot. I cut into the chicken fried steak and took a bite, it was freakin’ delicious. I don’t know what kind of seasoning and breading was put on there, but it was good! There was so much flavor! Just looking at the gravy made me think it was going to be bland, but that was not the case. It too was perfectly seasoned. I basically cleaned my plate by dunking and sweeping all of my home-​fries and toast in the gravy. Damn, I couldn’t let that gravy go to waste.
Altogether, the service was okay. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t the best either. I think my waiter just met the bare minimum with his service. Near the end, things got kind of confusing. I was done with my meal. Obviously I was done because my plate was licked clean and my waiter was nowhere to be found. I kept making eye contact with staff to try and get my check. Finally I just waved at a random girl so that she could help me get my check. I headed to the front to pay for my meal and instead of the lady ringing me up, she calls for the male waiter to come up front to complete my transaction. Hmm… I’m not sure why she couldn’t have just rang me up herself, but whatever.

Having tried out Evan’s a couple years ago, I finally had to go back due to the goading of all my friends who LOVE the restaurant. To be fair, the food, and service, are both good.
Upon entering, the same, tired old carpeting greeted me. Is it just me? I empathize with the cash demands on small businesses, but appearances speak volumes, and I wish that more restaurant owners would replace their carpeting when it’s past its time… otherwise I always mentally give a «strike one.»
$ 9.50 Taylor’s and a $ 10 traditional Benedict were ordered, along with coffee, which arrived quickly, fresh, strong and hot. Our server was cheerful and everything was prepared well.
I’d like to give Evan’s a 4-​star review but maybe next time.

One of my first places using guidance at 100% from other Unilocalers where I really wanted to love the place and found it to be just ok. I don’t feel let down in the least by the Unilocal peeps. We all have our own tastes and preferences and I have always looked at going in at 100% as using an assist not an assurance. I am as much to blame as anyone.
The day before I was at another breakfast establishment in the area that completely amazed me. The parking here was quirky with all the territorial adjacent establishments. The wait was 45 minutes so we opted to go to 12 Rounds for quick flight of tasters after talking to the host at the front desk. We made it back in a half hour and were seated within ten minutes of our return. Props to the host who was accommodating to our side adventure.
The interior of the establishment is fairly boring and dated. Stuff like this is easy to get past if the food is right. The filthy carpet was a little more bothersome. You would think a place like this would have a more dialed in flooring. We were seated near a corner and had a few pesky fruit flies buzzing around which I found irritating.
After browsing the menu with a bent on getting breakfast nothing really jumped out at me beyond the nice selection of Benedicts. This is where I think I went wrong. I should have embraced the prospect of a Benedict food coma and gone for it. Ultimately my dining partner and I opted to go the lunch route and get a couple sandwiches. This, in part, was driven by the fact their bloody mary cocktails are made with some low octane vodka substitute that allows then to skirt around a more costly liquor license I suppose (not 100% sure). Because of this we went for beers which were more aligned to lunch. There were some decent beer options but it was a bit of a let down to see there were no true local beers as options.
Back to the food. We ordered an Evan’s Favorite and a Turkey Club. As it turned out my dining partner and I switched given we weren’t all that pleased with what we ordered. The grilled Evan’s Favorite had some tasty bread but both featured turkey that tasted a bit off. Not sure if it’s made in house but it really had that processed turkey taste that I am not a fan of at all. The clam chowder was tasty and the fries were good (nothing all that note worthy though). Prices were fair enough and the service was very good.
In the end I am likely as much to blame given my choices. Then again I still think all should be good stuff not just select items. That being said I intend to put this back in the rotation for a second chance and will update my review if my experience is substantially different.

Had a delightful breakfast here. They are located in a plaza with all the antique stores. A very old fashion looking place. There was a short wait but we got seated within 5 mins. It’s not a huge restaurant, but almost every table was filled. Evan’s face is everywhere; in the art and the front of your menu. Evan comes out of the kiten to make sure things are running smoothly in the dining area. We got front view since we sat at the table next to the kitchen.
Known for their bennies, we ordered:
Crab cake benny’s: not too salty. It was my dad’s first time having eggs benedict and he loved it. Didn’t realize how fulfilling it was, he asked me to order him some apple sauages as a side. It was definitely very filling

It was my first time trying this place and I loved it! I expected to be wheeled out of this place since you get a large amount of food. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and tried the starvin’ Marvin (country fried steak).
Pros: this place has their cooking down. Both dishes were full of flavor and the seasoning was perfect. For the crab cakes, I loved the combination with the egg Benedict. The portion was just right since I ordered it with a side of fruit. I loved the gravy for the country fried steak. This dish came with massive amount of food so I highly recommend that you come hungry. The service was excellent and our waitress was very tentative to our needs.
Cons: the wait was long, I think we waited a little over an hour for our table for 6. The food took awhile to come out as well but other than that, everything else was excellent.
I highly recommend this place and make sure you come hungry!

Fantastic food but slow service.
After months of wanting to try Evan’s for brunch, my sister and I ventured from Elk Grove to East Sac. Not sure what was going on with traffic, but it took us 45 minutes to get there and we were starving!
We arrived late on a Saturday morning so we were expecting a wait. They told us about 15 minutes. I noticed that they had open tables, but weren’t seating people there. Strange!
After 25 minutes and a very whiny niece, I was so happy to be finally seated. Since we’d been perusing the menu when we were waiting, we were ready to order right off the bat. More waiting. When a server came by to take our drink orders, we told them we were ready to order and promptly did. More waiting. Forty five minutes after arriving, we finally got to eat. The server came back once to check and see if we needed more drinks, but never came back with refills.
We loved the food. I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs which were perfectly cooked. My sister had the NY Steak benedict, which she devoured. My niece inhaled her french toast. However, due to the distance and slow service, I’m not sure if we will be back. Which is a bummer since the food was really outstanding.

Kleines, aber feines Steakrestaurant mit italienisch angehauchter Küche. Espresso gibt’s zwar nicht, dafür aber leckeren Salat mit hausgemachtem Dressing (z. B. Blue Cheese), Steak natürlich, dazu einen lokalen Pinot Noir und super Apple Pie á la mode (mit Vanilleeis und Sahne) zum Nachtisch. Liegt etwas versteckt. Man kann auch draußen sitzen, allerdings nur mit Blick auf den Parkplatz. Bedienungen waren alle supernett und flott. Das Ganze zu absolut vertretbaren Preisen. Ist auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.
