We wanted our 2 45ft Liquid Ambers removed so we started getting quotes from licensed tree services. We received 4 quotes, which included other local companies and Dons was the best. Noël in the office was great to work with. The crew showed up today to cut the trees down and grind the stumps. Wow! On time, fast and cleaned up. I would definitely recommend using them!

Robert, Scott and Anthony did a fantastic job trimming my palm tree and shrubs. On time, fast and efficient, polite and priced right. They will be back in the fall to do more work on my shrubs. If you need your tree’s cut, I highly recommend this team of men. Great customer service!

We had an appointment today to remove three stumps from our front yard… No one showed up and we never received a phone call. No one answered their phone and no one has returned a call after I left a message…
Update: the crew did show up several hours late and did get the job done. Because it took less time than they expected, I also got a price break.

Don’s Tree sent Bruce out to give me an estimate. He was friendly, respectful, and not pushy at all. Some tree people are. Before the crew came out to grind a few stumps, I noticed some that weren’t on the estimate. I called and they said tell the crew when they arrive, and they’ll maybe charge a few dollars extra for each stump.
I was running late that day, and I got there right after the crew had left so I wasn’t able to ask them to grind these. Well, I called Don’s back, and these guys came back, and ground the stumps for no additional charge! Maybe it was because one of them was close to the house and the gutter pipe got dented (minor cosmetic issue), don’t know. Great service and very friendly and not creepy!

The guys from Don’s Tree Service did an excellent job. They arrived promptly at 8AM and got right to work. In the back yard, two fruit trees, an orange and a pomegranate, needed to be pruned and crowned so that their fruit would be in «picking» range. They pruned another fruit tree, a plum?, to remove dead wood and give the tree another year or two of life. In the side yard, another tree, a pecan, needed to have some dead and broken limbs removed. In the front yard, the last tree, a camphor, had a really long limb stretching way over the roof of the house that needed to be removed. The limb was at least 20+ ft long and about 10+ in in diameter at its base. This limb was taken down in stages and then cut into firewood and stacked. All of the other cut limbs were run into their chipper. They also blew all of the leaves off of the roof and grass and chipped them also. Believe it or not, they were done by 10AM. Excellent job at a very reasonable price. I recommend them and would hire them for any future tree work that I would need.

I saw the reviews on Unilocal and decided to call them. The owner came out and gave me a quote and was very nice. «The quote was the best price out o four quotes that I had received. I then scheduled an appointment. The only bad thing was that it was five weeks away as they are very busy. The team of Les, Jake and Randy showed up on time early in the morning and went over everything with me before they started. They cut eight trees in my backyard and cleaned up afterward. They were done in less than three hours. They went over it with me afterward to make sure everything was ok. The backyard looks so much better now. I would recommend them to anybody.

Don’s came out this morning to remove some dead branches. As a result of receiving such great customer service from Don’s 2 years ago, I falsely expected to have a similar experience this time as well. However not at all the case. Scott & his crew came out and he was very rude and spoke down to me — to the amusement of his crew. He was completely unprofessional & I’m very surprised a crew leader would conduct himself this way. The difference between my 2 experiences with Don’s was night & day unfortunately. So if customer service is important to you, I would avoid having Scott & his crew perform the work.

The guys from Don’s Tree Service did an excellent job. My only complaint is with their appointment times — or the ability to stick with their appointment times. On one occasion they stopped by unannounced to take measurements. Fortunately we were home, but I didn’t much appreciate it. Then, on the day of their appointment, they were scheduled for 11am and arrived at 8:30am. Normally this wouldn’t have been a problem, but my husband wasn’t home (he made the appointment so that he could be), and I ended up being late for work so I could unlock and relock gates etc. for them.
The service, however, was flawless. They removed 1 tree and trimmed all of our others.

They (Dan) came for the tree consultation on time, listened to what I wanted, and proposed what should be cut. He also made a very helpful and cost-​saving suggestion about another tree I was having a problem with. I agreed to the quote and the office called later that evening to set up the job. We set a date and time. They came approximately 45 min. s early, they cut exactly what we had agreed upon and in less than an hour, and they cleaned up after themselves. I will DEFINITELY use them again when I need another tree pruned.

I needed a huge tree gone in my back yard. However when I called they refused me service because I’m in North Highlands. I literally am 2 houses out of their «coverage» zone. Really? I would understand if I was in a whole other town, but right on the boarder? C’mon. Thats lame and bad for business.

Was able to call upon Don’s Tree Service once again. The crew did a bang up job, were very polite, and finished faster than expected. One crew member even cleaned up debris that fell into the pool.
From the crew attitude and my interaction, I really get the impression they value the customer and strive for the highest customer satisfaction possible.

To begin, the older man that came to do our consult was very sweet. We booked our appt a month in advance due to our busy schedule. On our appt day 3 men rolled up in older pick up trucks. They were nice for the most part, but I need to mention that one had a swastika tattoo on his hand and the other sat down in one of our lawn chairs to have a smoke. After I walked them around the yard explaining what I wanted done he proceeded to tell me his chipper broke a day or two ago… so he basically couldn’t do the job that day! I wanted to say, «why didn’t you call me to reschedule?», and «why are you even here!!!» He said another crew could bring their chipper, or that they could leave the debris in the street, but overall it was going to take longer and be much more difficult. Did I mention you are charged by the hour!!! I told them they could leave and I would reschedule (unlikely). One of the men told me the older man John would call me for a new appt. That was two weeks ago. I’m fuming just thinking about my experience. Just think twice before using this company.

We are still waiting for Dons Tree Service to complete the terms of the agreement specified in the contract they negotiated. It has now been 2.5 months since we first contacted them. The operations manager informed us we did not HAVE a contract with this company and referred us to the Better Business Bureau mediator! Even their employees said they can’t keep up now that they are listed on Angie’s List — which is the NEXT place I’m contacting about their SHODDY work, horrible work ethic and deplorable customer service!

I am thoroughly impressed and very grateful for Don’s Tree Service. Three people — Kevin, Omar and Lester — tamed our monster Sycamore tree quickly and expertly and then cleaned up so thoroughly the yard and roof looked better than before they arrived. The massive tree had huge, hazardous dangling broken branches and its limbs sagged from the weight of overgrown foliage.
These guys were super nice, finished the job in about six hours, and the tree looks gorgeous. Although they did the job quickly, they took enough time to do it right. These guys do not just come «lop off the top.»
Impressed neighbors came to watch them work, and one neighbor even hired them on the spot to cut down a dead tree in his front yard. Kevin was very knowledgeable and gave us some tips to keep the tree healthy. All three men were professional and polite as can be, even while working twenty feet off the ground.
Oh, and their price was very reasonable — best bid I got. I will call Don’s again, and recommend them to anybody who needs any tree work done.

Showed up on time and removed my deodar cedar tree whose needles were destroying my swimming pool, and making a clean yard an impossibility. Four guys, two hours, and no more pain in the butt tree planted in an inappropriate setting. Don had the lowest price, and after an initial glitch because a truck broke down, they did the job right. I would recommend them to my family and friends.

Hmmmm… well, my first negative review. I hate to give it, but want to be honest about my experience. I called to see if I could schedule an appt to meet with their arborist. I said I needed to know about the health of my tree since it appears to be undergoing sudden death and needs help ASAP. Receptionist said they don’t do that… what…you’re a licensed arborist who doesn’t help people with their trees…(evaluate, spray, prune, etc)???
So, then I asked if she knew of anyone who DOES this. Again, «gee I don’t really know».
Hmmm…so, they remove them, but if you want to save one forget it. Why advertise that you’re a licensed arborist then?
