Cuevas Csr Mary, DMD

My husband and I have been going to see Dr. Cuevas for years now. We were very satisfied with her at the beginning. Her office staff and dental assistants were very personable. (Carmel is amazing! She has been there over the years and makes our visits enjoyable. It’s too bad she is not working with patients as often these days.)
Typically, we would have to wait about 15 minutes after our appointment time to be seen (not surprising since this is usually the case with doctors and dentists).
However, the service has certainly declined in the past year. Dr. Cuevas’ assistants barely say hello and seem to forcefully and carelessly clean and prod around in my mouth. Not to mention the wait time.
At the past few visits, my husband and I have both been brought to the back expecting to meet with Dr. Cuevas, only to find that we sit in the chair for upwards of an hour (or more!) before we are even seen. When she does come in, she gives a quick, insincere apology before getting to work. At times, she seems rushed and on one occasion, I’ve had to go back to get my fillings fixed!
As everyone else with busy schedules, we value our time. Sitting in a dentist chair for an hour or more waiting is not time well spent. Clearly, Dr. Cuevas does not understand or respect our time.
Needless to say, we will be changing dental offices.

I’m relatively new to town and was able to get an appointment right away. As a new patient, they worked with my insurance to get a 12 month waiting period waved in order to get a badly needed crown. Did a great job cleaning. Would highly recommend.

I got refer to Dr Mary Cuevas from friend of mine. and The first impression always account to me, First when I call to make an appt as a new client I got my appt right away, such it was great to me, and before my appt. they called me to remind me my appt date and time, I got 2 crowns done by Dr Mary Cuevas, she is nice, friendly and very professional. I was very impress with her job, now all my family goes to her, no doub about it… and I will recommned her highly if you are looking for a new dentist, also the location is perfect because is in downtown and they have a private parking. I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years. Dr. Cuevas and her staff are simply the nicest folks. from the minute you walk in to the time you leave, you are given the sense that these folks truly care about you. That and she’s a great dentist!

I was seen my Dr. Mary Cuevas majority of the time. She is a SUPER sweet lady. This review has nothing to do with how nice they are– it’s about how careful/​caring they are.
When I first went in – they said I needed an enormous amount of work done (several old fillings needed to be re-​done, crowns, new fillings), then Dr. Cuevas said, «after all this is done, we’ll refer you to an orthodontist, because your teeth are really crooked and you should look into braces»…it was quite overwhelming, but I went with it.
I went to this dentist over a course of say 4 – 6 months. Each time I came in, Dr. Cuevas would ask me, «so, what are we doing today?» …umm, I am the patient, you are the dentist– why are you asking me? She would always forget the condition of my teeth and what needed to be done, which didn’t make me feel comfortable that she knew what she was doing and made me more skeptic of all the work that needed to be done– I should of gotten a second opinion.
Every time I would ask for an explanation about something, Dr. Cuevas would start the answer off with, «ummm…» or «it depends…» She was very cavalier in her responses and basically I did not have confidence in her answers. I’ve had dentists before that are knowledgeable and make you feel like they know what their talking about, or make you feel confident that the work they’re doing is justified. I did not feel that way here.
Once she told me that the white (almagan.?) filings were better — then one day I had a «sub» dentist from their office who told me that the silver/​metal fillings were better… When I have 2 dentists from the same office telling me 2 different things, it adds even more to my skepticism.
OK so it gets worse — the day I had the «sub» dentist, he did a filling for me. He finished in 20 minutes tops. It was so fast. Nice guy, but it felt like he had a plane to catch or something. When he was finished, he was moving his hands so fast that the drill that he was holding (and was still on), sliced my tongue! …it was so quick, I felt just a quick nip. Then he said, «Ok, we’re all done, have a good day» and left quickly. I realized my tongue was bleeding heavily. I tried to tell the dental assistant but she said, «Oh it’s ok, it’s ok» — she had sort of broken English and really wasn’t even listening to me. So, I told a different assistant who was more concerned. She told the other assistant, «NO, look she’s bleeding…» They told me it would heal and call them if it gets worse. My tongue healed in about a week, but I suffered stinging every time I ate food. This is ridiculous and just plain inexcusable, dentists are suppose to be careful. I mean, c’mon?!
Oh, it gets even worse. Dr. Ramos did 2 crowns on me. The second one, I have no idea what happened but when she put the crown on I suffered the most excruciating pain ever in my life from a dentist. It was a sharp piercing pain that immediately spread to my head. I felt paralyzed and felt like crying… I had an immediate headache, dizziness and could barely get up. Dr. Ramos had me lay in the chair until I was ok to get up… then, she looked very puzzled as to why I had pain and said, «Oh maybe you need a root-​canal.» SMH!
Last story– so when I was done with my last bit of dental work (should of left a long time ago), it was time to refer me to an orthodontist. They were asking me if I knew any in my insurance network… ummm no. Is that my job? Then they looked up some random number in a catalogue (the first one they could find in my network– they were rushing, bc they had other things to do). So, if you’re looking up a number in a catalogue, that’s not really a refferal, is it? Anyway, I took the number/​address and left. Come to find out they refereed me to Western Dental! Western Dental is for low income or people w/​no insurance. I ended up going there (not knowing what it was) and there were a bunch of people waiting inside (like a clinic), people with no insurance and low income (can you imagine what it was like?). How dare my own dentist, who supposedly knows me refer me to a place like that? …Oh that’s right, they were in a rush and didn’t know anyone personally that was in my network.
Oh man– this has been the worse experience of my life. It’s just THAT more important and serious when it’s dealing w/​your health and your body. I do NOT recommend this dentist. They are nice people (never were rude to me), but they are careless. Believe me.

I would highly reccomend Dr. Cuevas, especially to all the dental phobics out there like me! She is extremely calming, patient and explains everything she’s doing or is going to do in detail, but not so much that it is scary or that it will freak you out.
Her staff is great as well. They all are professional, friendly and helpful.
Yes, she gets 5 stars from me and I’m thrilled to have found a new dentist I am comfortable with!

Been going to Dr. Cuevas for 8 years. I Wouldn’t have any other Dentist touch my gums. She is so nice, and does a very thorough cleaning! I always leave with a nicer feeling and more importantly, nicer LOOKING set of chops!!!

All you Tooth Babies out there – listen up! I have the dentist for you.
I am a total wimp when it comes to the dentist. My heart rate and sweat glands kick into overdrive at the mere thought of a dental visit. Even the polishing drill gives me the willies. If you’re like me, you should definitely try my dentist, Dr. Mary Cuevas. She’s wonderful! (Now remember, this is a dentist I’m talking about – that’s a giant compliment.)
I recently lost a piece of a tooth (probably from all those cupcakes I eat). Scary! Such severe damage called for a cap. This is an in-​depth process (and since there are probably other dental-​phobes reading this, I will spare you the details). Getting a cap is one of my biggest nightmares come true (right up there with falling into a pit of rabid rats).
But you can breathe easy! With Dr. Cuevas at my side, the multi-​hour ordeal was actually quite… well, pleasant. She is patient. She gives me occasional sips of water. She frequently asks how I’m feeling. She actually cares – and lets me know it. She goes out of her way to remove all pain and discomfort. She is attentive and gentle. She is also wise, and thoroughly explains what she is doing.
To boot, her staff are all warm, wonderful gals!

Since I was a new patient I had to fill out a few forms regarding my dental history and more forms regarding privacy and information sharing.
One of my favourite statements was, «by signing this form you agree to allow us call your name when it is your turn for an appointment». Yipes. This place has their bases covered!
The receptionists are really friendly over the phone and in person.
Dr. Cuevas is friendly and personable and did a nice job of cleaning my pearly whites. I was a little insulted when she asked me if I’d ever considered getting braces. My teeth are pretty straight since I’ve ALREADY had braces!
I will go back here because everyone is friendly and I already have pretty good self esteem. If I didn’t, I’d have signed up for braces… again.
