California Highway Patrol Academy

Has really gone down hill over the last 9 – 10 months. Has new management and everyone seems less then happy with the new direction of the place. Morale is at an all-​time low.

This review is for the Academy as a testing facility which I visited last Saturday.
The location is easy to find; take the Reed Ave exit off the highway and you will almost run right into it!
Arrive extra early, my test started at 8:30am and there was a line going out of the Academy and down the street just to get into the parking lot! There is an Officer at the entrance to the Academy so not everyone can drive in.
I got into the parking lot, parking is clearly marked and available right in front. Yes! Once parked, there are four buildings arranged in a square with a courtyard in the middle dedicated to fallen CHP officers.
One of the buildings is the dining room so off I went! The buildings all look the same and aren’t clearly marked. The only way I knew what building was the right one, was from the line of other test takers out front!
Inside the dining room is very clean. There are a ton of tables and chairs with plenty of windows and skylights. Kind of a cool place, but has that «school» feeling so not very comfy.
Overall, great place for testing/​meetings because the space is nice and easily accessible.

This review is for the use of the Academy as a training facility and for the cafeteria. I attended a DPA two day training here at the CHP Academy and their facilities are top notch for a State classroom. The classroom itself was very comfortable with modern AV equipment, the classroom was actually much nicer than many of the classrooms at Sac State. Included in your classroom time at the Academy is a $ 4 lunch in the cafeteria. The food was nothing special, but for $ 4 you get a salad bar, a hot entrée, hot vegetable, dessert, and drink. The raviolis with Italian sausage wasn’t to bad for $ 4. There is plenty of free parking, and I feel that I didn’t even need to lock my truck, who in the heck would break into my truck at the CHP Academy.
