I know about this little stand because the vendor frequently sells veggies and fruits at the Oak Park Farmers Market. This is a family operated business, I am pretty sure. They frequently bring their children to the market, which I love. I personally think children should be more involved with watching their parents work. Now, I’m not trying to sound medieval or excessively Republican, but how do you expect your kids to grow up to appreciate hard work when you are sending them to some fun house all day at daycare, where they get excessively bored(I know I did) and send them off to school where they are basically shoved together in an awkward social situation and become more interested in running with the pack and easily lose track of what life is about-supporting yourself. My dad frequently took my younger brother with him on electrical testing jobs and whatnot. He was good about that. My dad is the hardest worker I know. He will work morning, noon and night and even overnight for the right price. He was in the hospital after major surgery and had me checking his business e-mail in the ICU. This kind of mentality rubs off on the little ones. Children nowadays have way too much free time. Watch the news. Free time problems are everywhere. Now the owners of this stand aren’t making their kids work. But the kids are there, and they see what’s going on. Both kids were remarkably well-behaved and well-mannered. I do not believe that this is coincidental. They engaged with my daughter, who is younger than them, and treated her with respect and kindness. This is not common among young kids. I have gone off on a tangent here, but I am all about how people live their lives and conduct their business. I don’t think that these two concepts are as far removed from each other as we would like to think. This stand sets a great example of how to conduct an honest business while not losing one’s self(nor one’s family) in it. The owners of the stand were kind on all of the occasions where I interacted with them, and generous. They give the benefit of the doubt when there is some confusion about the pricing. They are there to SELL. They even offered to keep an eye on Zoey while I finished my shopping. Who does that nowadays?! I don’t leave Z with anyone but family, but still, it was nice to offer. They sell some of the best black-eyed peas, which my daughter and I love. They have many berries and other vegetables, which can get expensive at the store. This is a good family-operated business, and I think you should check them out if you are in the area. If not, you can find them at the Oak Park Farmer’s Market on Sunday afternoon.
