Broadway Costume & Theatrical Supply

I stopped by the store to check out the costumes for an upcoming party. There are tons to choose from and everything is displayed by theme. The lady in the shop was very helpful pointing me in the right direction and showing me different costumes. She even showed me substitutes for items were already rented out, and was willing to hem a skirt for me! Some of the costumes were a little worn/​old but if you’re just going to wear it for one night, I don’t think anyone will notice.
Wigs and makeup are in the front, costumes are in the back with changing rooms.
The rental rate is reasonable, parking lot is small (5 spaces) and if you’re using GPS — it’s not that hard to locate.

Broadway costumes is a place I’d barely noticed before but it’s at the top of my list for all future costume needs. They have a great selection and offer all the accessories needed for a complete outfit. We reserved early for Halloween and were glad we did because, as predicted, the place was a mad house during Halloween week. (The parking lot was jammed full and people were blocking other folks in with their cars.) Costumes are rented for an entire week for a reasonable fee and they encouraged us to try everything on before making our selections, ensuring our complete satisfaction. We will definitely use them again when the need arises!

The customer service is excellent. If you’re looking for cream based facepaint or body paint you plan on airbrushing on, this is your shop. They have a good selection, as well as a number of glitters and shimmers. For theatrical makeup, or smaller halloween type kits, works well. If you’re looking for water based face paint, like Wolfe, DFX or Chameleon, you likely will not find it here.

I’ve driven past Broadway Costume & Theatrical Supply many times and was always curious to check it out, but felt cautious as it isn’t in the best area ever and the building doesn’t look very welcoming. But with a shopping companion in tow and a quest for a costume, I finally got to go in.
The building may not look very welcoming, but thankfully the staff made us feel right at home. The two ladies were very polite and made their assistance available. The shop is rental only. The inventory is a bit hit-​or-​miss, the store has the feel of a thrift shop that rents its wearables. I liked their selection of Civil War/​Victorian era garments (especially the men’s. I like a man in Yankee blue, meow!) They also have a great selection of mascot and monster costumes, masks and heads.
We didn’t rent anything on that visit, but I’ll for sure keep them in mind the next time I’m building a costume.

I found this quaint little place via search engine, while looking for a place that was selling Ben Nye FX makeups here in Sacramento. When I pulled up, there were two dogs behind a fence, just looking at me. As soon as I went over to them, they wagged and gave me kisses. I was delighted, and as soon as I opened the door to the shop, I was greeted with the exact same pleasant nature I found outside. The woman at the counter was smiling, and asked what she could help me with. I had a list of materials I needed, and she walked around behind the counter and started pulling everything I read off. She let me know the prices, sizes, and any differentiations between products (like the difference between a coarse and fine stippling sponge). There was no pressuring at all. She was very helpful when it came to my needing a color I wasn’t sure of, but knew the look I wanted to achieve, and pulled out a very large tray of makeup pots to let me test colors. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices were lower here than the average prices I gathered online to get an idea of my total bill, and I ended up spending only $ 66 on everything I needed. I will definitely be returning to build my very own FX makeup kit.

This place has everything you need for costumes or themes parties. Kathy is super nice and very knowledgable about all the different eras. She will definitely take care of you.

small place but it is packed to the ceiling with so many neat costumes, from a clown to a donkey to a matador (bull fighter) and even a mariachi. How cool is that.
When we arrived at the store, there’s a lady leaving and WOW we have the store all to ourselves, the guys are in the spirit and in costumes. very friendly and quite knowledgeable when it came time to ask questions about the paint that goes on your face, I did not know there was such a thing as SPIRIT GUM, then the different types of paint, who knew, maybe you but not I.
OK so we need some face paints for our costumes and the guys are more than helpful as they recommend on the different types of paint, colors to blend with and what you might need as far as if you’re wanting to place some BLING on your face or pretty much whatever you want to add.
That’s where the SPIRIT GUM comes in to play, now don’t forget to purchase the SPIRIT GUM REMOVER or you will be stuck with a face full of glue and some sand paper trying to remove it and you really dont want that now do you! (and YES this is all safe to use, except for the sand paper)
PAINT SEALER, You might also want to purchase the paint sealer so it won’t smear off, and there’s a lil secret for you that tend to sweat quite a bit, ready? here it is, wash your face, pat dry and rub some antiperspirant on and that will seal the pores and you won’t sweat the paint off, pretty cool huh! This came straight from the pros at the store. My woman was the one that had mentioned the sealer bit to me as I’m really clueless when it comes to this stuff, I usually just buy a mask and I’m done but not this time.
Now we came out of there with all the things we needed and a new place to get our costume supplies as well.
So weather you want to purchase or rent a costume, this is your one stop shop. And there’s so many to choose from you’ll go nuts even though all the costumes are sectioned off in their categories.
The only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars is because I really don’t know much about the pricing on the supplies but I personally thought it could’ve been just a tad less, but nevertheless it was worth it.
Great lil shop you guys have there and the service was nothing but awesome.

We had a wonderful experience here at Broadway Costume for Halloween. It was so much fun going through all they had to offer, deciding what we were going to go as for our couples costume. We ended up going with a roaring 20’s costume, with my wife donning a sexy little flapper dress, and myself in a retro cool suite that was a perfect match with jacket, tie, vest the whole package. They even crafted a custom head band for my wife’s costume to match my suit. All this cost us less to rent than it would have cost us to by just one cheap throw-​away costume at traditional Halloween stores. Conclusion? Next year we are bringing the entire family here and our days of buying costumes are over.

I love old shit… Old stuff of all kinds… well for me it’s where it’s at…
This lil gem of a vintage costume and theatrical supply shop fulfilled my need for assembling this years Halloween costume AND had me planning for next years as I flipped thru the racks and racks of costume-​wear in the back part of the shop…
Here’s what I LOVED and what I didn’t:
LOVED: The attentiveness of ALL of the staff manning the shop. I also loved how the super tall one was all dragged out as Frankenstein complete with the awesome application of shades of grays of the theatrical makeup he used to put his costume together… Made Halloween seem so real and quite frankly fun!
We were assisted by two younger gentlemen who were beyond attentive and helpful in every way; from my relentless gunfire questioning of «how do we???» to «now tell me again; how do we???»… Plus they were so playful, friendly and it was clear that they both truly enjoyed their jobs… You don’t see that very often anymore so anytime I do, I love to give props where props are due…
LOVED their selection of HIGH QUALITY makeup and the large selection of colors that were available even though we were shopping on Halloween they still had everything we needed
LOVED their affordable pricing on 100% of our needs and although we came in for makeup only we purchased several different makeup items and for far less than we would have by buying them online which is how I’ve done it in the past… And the make up keeps well as I asked about that and was told that the sample palette there that they used for display was well over 10 years old and still going strong. LOVED THAT!
LOVED their ALPHABETICAL CATEGORIZING of their rentable costumes located in the back side of the store… Yes, they have them categorized as personally & particularly when I’m shopping for something in particular I strongly dislike digging and digging for it… Made looking and finding what I was interested in über simple and easy and fun since I wasn’t wasting time…
LOVED the circa late 1960’s-1970’s shaggy and funky colored carpet in the back room where all the costumes for rent live, I think it was blue and yellow and beyond hideous making it all that more to easy love… Took me back to my childhood and my granny’s casa where she had the exact same split pea green long ass shag carpet til the day she died! Love that old stuff ;)
I’ve been looking for a good old school costume all-​in-​one shop for more years that I can shake a stick at and after visiting this shop I’ve finally found it… Now just need more parties and reasons to dress up!

For one:
This place does not have a good selection.
For two:
the worker there was a gigantic jerk (I would love to add a lot more expletives, but that is against the rules). He was just terrible, he followed us around pulling things off racks and putting them on, whilst staring at us the entire time. I don’t just mean looking every once in a while, he was STARING and didn’t look away from us one time…
Conclusion? If you wanna feel like a complete criminal for no absolute reason, go here.
If it was possible to give no stars or a negative rating I would.

So the place does smell, but they have a great selection! Also, you can rent almost everything, so it is much cheaper than Evangelines. We had a blast going through it all and finding a bunny head prop for a party!

For an eventster like me this place is a playground. Tons of costumes. Great customer service. Only downside is there is an «old» smell about the building. However the staff here is top notch so that is easily overlooked. They have a great selection and are very accommodating on pickup times and working with budgets. For anyone with a costume need this is the place for you!

Waited until the last minute to find a colonial army uniform for my sons school play. They had one his size when no other shops did. Not a great neighborhood but right off the freeway. Owner was very nice and helpful.

I was pretty impressed with Broadway Costume & Theatrical Supply, mostly because it was not at all what I expected. I was unable to find it while cruising up and down Franklin Blvd., even though I had its location pinpointed on my handy google maps app. I finally found the store in a dilapidated brick building in an area where no one would expect to look for it.
The interior basically consists of two rooms: a front room filled with display cases and decorated with dated movie posters, and a back room filled with rack upon rack of every costume imaginable. Most of the costumes have sort of a fairytale theme. It’s sort of like if Disney’s prop house were having a garage sale. But there are also plenty of eclectic options for any occasion.
The owner, a sweet lady who obviously loves her collection, was very willing to work with me on finding what I need. I look forward to coming back soon!

As a theater person, I’m very specific about the make up I use on and off stage. So when I comes time to perform, I call upon the Ben Nye gods to work their magic. That being said, it’s hard to find a great Ben Nye selection locally when I can run to on a moments notice. I was pleasantly surprised by their selection here. They’re priced the way they should be, with no small business mark-​up. I was also suprised how incredibly kind the female owner is to boot. They graciously provide a discount for theater folks, which I really appreciate.
In a store that’s been around since the 70’s, their costume selection is much like a closet through the years collection. It has a little of everything that screams «try me on! I’m fun!»
As someone else said about this place, do not judge a book by its cover. Give this place a little time, and you’ll find some magic within.

This place is def a do not «judge a book by it’s cover». It’s located in an interesting part of town and the parking lot is rather small (I think it can hold 4 cars maybe 5) BUT! It can be loads of fun round this time of year if you have a creative mind and want to make something rad out of a hodge podge of stuff. The woman that owns it is really cool and is patient even though there is hustle bustle goin on all around. The rentals are inexpensive and so are the deposits and by all means not stuffy or «too cool» like some of the other costume rentals I’ve been to over the years.

The place has been around for days, and if you know what you want, they’ll tell you up front. I came in last week and said I was going to an Edwardian Ball. i wasn’t even sure what that meant, but they measured me and about 30 minutes later brought me an outfit that shined amongst the ballers. They are SERIOUS about what they do, so if you know what you need, CALL them, make an appointment and go get it. They prefer a 5 day advance notice — because they don’ t just guess about what you need, they give you what you want.

This place was awesome!
My boyfriend was looking for a very specific tuxedo coat from a certain era and not only did they have the coat, but it was in his size. The guy working there is very helpful and knew the history of everything. The nice elderly gentleman will let you know where a coat came from, how people wore it, and you can tell he loves to talk about the costumes. Gave us a little history lesson.
I looked through the other costumes and they were very cool. If you want to rent a military costume they have all kinds. Lots of cute dresses too.
I was very impressed and it was also just a lot of fun. Price didn’t seem too bad — $ 20 to rent the coat for a week.

Even though I wasn’t able to find the very-​hard-​to-​find 80’s stuff I was looking for… The old guy working there is a gem, and I’ll definitely come back around Halloween to figure out if I want be Charo, Cinderella, one of the ugly stepsisters, or some deranged easter bunny.
The old guy was so very helpful in trying to find me what I was looking for, while the older lady was being ever so helpful to a young couple looking for prom-​wear… she even had the boy try some pants on and told them they would need to be altered and asked when he’d need them for the prom… nice.
Oh, and they have theeee sweetest cat roaming around and looking for love, in all the wrong places (kitty! stay away from the pimp-​wear); we gladly loved the little cat… we actually stayed longer because of her.
I just wish I had more time that day to sift around everything they had. The front of the shop houses the make-​up, wigs, and accessories — while the back half is full costumes, and other clothing to rent. I was told that the average price is $ 25 for a week rental. There’s not much in the way of kid-​sized clothes, but I will go back for that special occasion when I will be needing that Southern Belle dress, Harem girl get-​up, or that ever so deranged easter bunny costume.

I love the old couple that owns this place. They make you feel like you’re running around loose in their closet, well, I guess you kind of are. Some of the costumes are a bit beat up and warn out, but if you want to pretend you’re in a mariachi band with ten of your best friends, or dress up like some freaky bunnies for Easter; they’ve got you covered. One Halloween I wanted to be Liza Minnelli circa 1972 from Cabaret and they fixed me right up.
Plus it’s a nice feeling to support your small business man and woman.
