Best Western Plus Sutter House

An apology doesn’t change the fact that your staff promised that Best Western would cover the damages, which was then reneged on. It also doesn’t put security on the parking lot.

Great hotel! Stayed a couple nights for a conference at the arena. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The front desk woman was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with a good variety. Would recommend!

Very nice for the price. Large clean rooms and big bathrooms. Free parking. Only bummer was a handicap shower in a nonhandicap room.

Clean, free parking, affordable, swimming pool, small gym, and free breakfast. For breakfast, you can choose from waffles, yogurt, cereals, French vanilla or mocha coffee, mini muffins, apples/​bananas, and more. I didn’t have any noise issues as I had requested a room away from the elevators and ice machine. Even though work was paying for the hotels, I had no regrets in changing the hotel from Sheraton to BW.

I was pretty surprised with this Best Western. Driving up to the hotel I wasn’t sure what I had gotten into. Checking In, the front desk guy was pretty warm and friendly and I was even more surprised when our room was not old and gross. I was expecting it to be musty smelling and tacky (my assumption from reading some old Unilocal reviews) but to my surprised it was newly updated. They had classical music playing and the air conditioning on when we walked in (The AC was great because Sac is really hot) Also, the room also came with a TV which was a small flat screen, a mini fridge and a microwave. The location of this place is great. Its walking distance to lots of restaurants and the Capital building. (Beware of the large of amounts of crack heads and homeless people wandering around) The continental breakfast (which was free and surprisingly good) is from 7:30 — 9:30 am. They offered biscuits and gravy, waffles, breakfast burritos, cereal and more. The sink is outside of the bathroom which I like. I was able to put on my make up while my boyfriend was in the shower. But, the shower must be old because it felt like it was going to break when you got into it. Minus one star for the lady working the breakfast who kept yelling at everyone to flip their waffle (we know lady) and the fact that I found a bug on my pillow.

Clean and reasonably quiet. Only criticism would be the fact that they used some sort of perfume/​deodorizer in the room. I’m not normally sensitive to that, but it even gave me a headache. Cleared out a little bit after we left the window open.
Breakfast buffet was reasonable, well stocked by friendly staff. Pool (outdoor) was nice enough, but we got in too late for the kiddo to go out and enjoy it (too tired from the car ride).
It is downtown, but in an area that feels safe. Covered parking, but nearby car alarms did go off sometimes. Bar next door had musicians going in and out — with window open, we heard a pretty good sax player prepping for a gig.
Would stay here again.

Unfortunately, we had to deal with Tony at the front desk, who informed us at 2:30 that our room was not ready in a dismissive short tone. We understood, as check-​in begins at 3:00. We waited in the lobby as Tony checked in 6 other guests over a 40-​minute period, giving them all their rooms. Then, after Tony made us watch him on his smoke-​break, our room was finally ready. I wish our stay didn’t have to be tainted by this worker, and his actions. This establishment would be better off without a staff member, who clearly has no regard whatsoever for guests staying at this establishment.

I give it a 5 because it was clean, and comfortable. But most importantly Yvette the front desk lady was so helpful and friendly made us feel welcome right away. Hard to find that now a days most places they don’t even look up and talk to you. So thank you for all you do. Other employees should learn the same.

It sounded like the light rail was running through my room all night and in the morning the person vomiting in the room next to mine might as well as have been in my room given the audibility. I am a good sleeper, if I was that miserable, I don’t know how anyone can comfortably stay in the room. Supposedly the hotel tries not to lodge guests in the rooms near the light rail but they will in no way guarantee this when making a reservation. During checkout I was told they usually offer earplugs to guests in these rooms.

When other reviewers talked about noise, they meant it!
Next door had party until 11:15pm, called front desk at 7pm! The hotel simply needs to be more serious about this.
Otherwise, location is good and room overall is fine.

Stayed here while I was at a conference, and it was just okay. Free parking and free wifi which is great. The wifi was a bit spotty at times, but useful when you need it! There’s only 2 floors but only one elevator which is super slow, but luckily I never had to wait too long for it. The room is spacious, but reeks of cinnamon which I don’t like. The restroom has a timed light which is a tad annoying. Breakfast in the morning is decent, some pastries, microwave breakfast burritos, some fruit, and you can make waffles and they have biscuits and gravy as well. Overall, decent as part of the package.
It is a bit loud as the light rail is nearby and my room was facing a Wheel Works.

I stayed here for two nights this past weekend for a business trip.
Pros: free parking, free WiFi, decent continental breakfast, close to downtown
Cons: the bathroom ceiling looked a little moldy, the rooms off the courtyard by the pool can hear every conversation of everyone who walks through, there was a shady looking guy lingering in the parking lot on the night that I checked in, but I didn’t see him again after that

This was my 3^rd time staying here and every time has been great!
The rooms are very clean. They have a fridge and a microwave in the room. The staff is nice. The free Continental Breakfast is the best I’ve had at any hotel, A lot of choices and sit down dining area. The hotel is walking distance to the convention center and the Capitol. It’s also either a long walk or a short drive from Old Sac. There are a lot of bars & restaurants in walking distance as well.

We stayed here last night. The rooms were perfectly suited for our needs. The location is convenient for all downtown activities. By far the best feature is Yvette at the front desk. What a wonderful lady! If we choose this hotel again it will be because of her!

Room ⁴⁄₅ Room was clean. Has a desk area and a good number of outlets. Room has a flat screen TV. Also room has a microwave and refrigerator. Our refrigerator was not working. Shower warmed up ok, had good pressure and drained well.
Proximity ⁴⁄₅ Close to the State Capitol. Old Town is a 5 minute drive. There are restaurants within walking distance.
Price $$ AAA discounts
Overall Free Parking and Internet. Also free continental breakfast. Hotel has a pool.

Wonderful reception crew. We arrived early and checked in but my name cannot be found. Mistake was mine. Booked wrong date. He immediately told me not to worry and he will find a room for us. He did
The room was very immaculately clean. Kudos to the cleaning crew! Will come back again next time we’re in Sacramento area!

For about $ 120 a night, it’s fine if you’re just using this place as a crash pad or if you need a place to rendezvous with that married chick you met at the Claim Jumper bar two blocks away.
The staff is really friendly, helpful, and genuinely cheerful. They’ve got plenty of covered parking. It’s a couple of blocks (ie. walking distance) to the Capitol Building and the heart of downtown. Their continental breakfast is pretty good for a Best Western (they have waffle makers). And I had no problems with the wi-​fi.
The interior décor is what you’d expect — that is to say that it looks like it was decorated in the 1980s by someone with poor eyesight.
It’s kinda cool that the bathroom mirrors are really low. I got views of my junk I haven’t seen in awhile.
My biggest complaint: I stayed in room 211 and the window faces onto the street. There’s a public transit bus/​train that goes by every 20 mins all night long and I could hear the noise even through my ear plugs.
My second biggest complaint: My room smelled a little of old people. You know what I’m talking about. Yeah, it smelled like that.
My third biggest complaint: The walls are pretty thin and I could hear the people next door talking pretty clearly. Thankfully all they did was talk.
My fourth biggest complaint: You can’t adjust the aspect ratio displayed on the 16×9 TVs, so everything you watch is going to be squashed/​stretched. I hate it when Jennifer Aniston looks 50 pounds heavier. #firstworldproblems

It’s a Best Western. What else can I say? I got a reservation here because the discount rate for my conference at the Sheraton was sold out. Overall, it was fine. The room was clean with a queen bed and contained the normal free coffee deal. The staff were friendly and were also willing to cancel one night of my reservation a few weeks ahead of the trip without any fees (we had booked through some Southwest arrangement and could have been subject to fees). However, one end of the towel rack came off the wall as I was putting a hand towel back, plus there was a hole in the shower ceiling that probably should have been covered. My sleep was disturbed by the air system, which would kick into gear every once in awhile, as well as hearing the water in an adjacent room early in the morning. It was also weird (and kind of gross) to me that the coffee service was placed on the shelf below the bathroom sink. Usually most hotels place it in the «living room» area.
The complimentary «deluxe» continental breakfast included waffles, cereal, coffee, juice, mini bagels, fruit, yogurt, biscuits and gravy, and hard boiled eggs. I had been hoping for some scrambled eggs but was disappointed.
The hotel does have covered parking (I have no idea if it’s free or not), a pool, and a small fitness center. I tried the treadmill but it had issues and wouldn’t start, I had to use the elliptical (one each).

It’s a fine Best Western as far as Best Westerns go.

On the con side:
Bathroom mirror I too low. I have to bend way over to comb my hair. And I’m only 5’9″.
Rooms are very loud! If you are a light sleeper, do not stay here. Anyone walking by and talking may as well be sitting on your bedside. There is also a really annoying fake hawk cackling at one of the adjacent buildings that’s supposed to keep pigeons away. It goes on all night.

I’m known to be a speedy reader, and sometimes I skip through things too fast and miss the important points, which is how I found myself in a handicapped-​accessible room in a twin bed at the Best Western Sutter House on a business trip to Sacramento. The bed was comfortable, desk and free wi-​fi were nice but there was much more to be desired.
I’m from So-​Cal where we have a real drought — but that ridiculous, trickle of a low-​flow showerhead had no business being in any hotel in Sacramento. Also, the walls of the hotel were paper –thin. I could hear the people next-​door blowing their noses or coughing!
Fortunately the friendly staff, eco-​beauty products and continental breakfast were high points. I skipped the Belgian waffles, but went for whole wheat toast, banana and a couple of hard-​boiled eggs.
With tax the room was $ 180 which seems a bit steep. But heck, legislative session is in full swing and there’s a whole lot of lobbyists in town!
