Alterations To Go

Dropped off $ 200 pair of pants and a new dress shirt to be altered, pants came back two inches shorter than I requested and almost couldn’t get the shirt on. Owner said the order got «mixed up» with another. Neither pants or shirt could be fixed. Lost over $ 300 because I trusted their other reviews. Stay away from these freaks

Two months ago I came through town on business and stopped at The Rack to kill time and «just look around». Ended up making it a shopping spree… Darn sales! ;) Upon entering the the store I noticed Alterations To Go located next door and thought «Smart Move»! Not only is it right next door to The Rack, but it’s super convenient to Macy’s and all the other clothing stores in the mall located across the street.
I had asked the clerk at The Rack what the cost and timeframe for alterations would be and realized it just wouldn’t make sense. After remembering ATG next door, I took my purchases next door and asked the ladies if they could meet my timetable and they agreed to take it on. I came back the next day and not only were the items done, but they were done very well. Fast forward to yesterday… I drove in a day early for a meeting from Tahoe with a blazer and trousers to have altered, again with a «next day» request. As before, they accepted the task and when I came in this afternoon, both items were done perfectly. A couple things I should point out is that I’m not suggesting that you go in there with only rush turn around expectations. These women work very hard and deserve to have people go in with realistic expectations and not put more stress on them than they already have. Our urgency should never be other peoples emergency. (shame on me) The other point I’d like to make is that most anything can be accomplished for a price. As much as it hurt both times, I paid the PITA fee (stands for Pain In The A$$ fee… my words, not theirs) I realize that when we ask anyone to take on a deadline project, we’re basically asking them to either stay late and away from their families or come in early to complete the project. Please don’t BooHoo when they tell you the price… They’re strong, know their value, are good at what they do and they’re not a Nonprofit.
So, am I happy? Heck Yeah!
Would I recommend you take all your alterations there? ABSOLUTELY!

It’s prom season for my teenage sister. After receiving horrible service from the alteration staff at Nordstrom Rack who are clearly too overwhelmed to care, we took a walk next door. Despite closing in 15 minutes, Mai provided us with the most welcoming consultation I have ever received from a complete stranger. I have never met this woman before but she no lie treated us like family. Prom is 2 weeks away but my sister still needs shoes and the bottom hemmed. Tailor Mai Vu was so concerned about the alterations being ready in time that she offered to have the dress ready the next day. She didn’t charge us extra for the next day service and she also offered to match hemming prices. The next day my sister left that place beaming, soooo happy with how her dress fit. I definitley recommend this place for your dress alteration needs!

I really like these guys. After being sent here by a good friend, I really didn’t know what to expect.
I left my old tailor because they came under new ownership and the old «zing» just wasn’t there anymore, so I came here looking to get it back.
While this set isn’t what my original tailor was to me, they’re a LOT closer than the new ownership. It’s a great place and in generally happy with them. They definitely know what they’re doing and deliver as promised. The staff there is kind and efficient and truly want to do a great job.
Downsides? While enthusiastic, they speak English as a second language and can, at times, be a little hard to understand. They make up for it by being really friendly and engaging. The other it the location. They’re in Howe About Arden strip mall with a really busy parking lot. The distance from my house is a lot greater, but the drive and parking are worth it.

This review is long overdue, but I just can’t forget about the horrible job these people did on my clothes. Most specifically, I dropped a pair of pants off to have a tear stitched. They put a big ugly patch over the hole. This was the most careless, unprofessional and ugliest job I could’ve imagined. They charged me $ 25 and I argued that I didn’t want to pay. They assured me the patch would last forever. Too bad I couldn’t even wear the pants again. I kept them to use as work pants to paint and what not, patch started to come undone after 3 wears.

If you are a guy, who knows anything about how a suit should fit on you, do not go to this place. I used to think that all alteration spots were basically the same. You go there, you shorten the length of your pants, shorten your arms and that is about it. Well, that is totally wrong because that is what they do! A real suit fits, your body like it is supposed to. Alternations To Go will do just the basics and will not have your suit looking how it should. If you like baggy suits, go here but it you know anything about great tailoring, please stay away!

I called to inquire about reattaching a zipper closer on a new jacket. The woman who answered said it could be done fairly easily.
Once I got there (8 minutes later) both women on duty denied telling me that. I replied I would not have brought it to them unless I had been told that it was an easy and quick repair. The hostility vibe emanating from the staff was really overpowering. One actually said it would take days, then turned and walked away.
I’m never coming back. My advice is that there are plenty of alterations businesses that actually want your patronage, find one of those instead. They really need an attitude adjustment. Zero stars.

LOST PANTS. I took a pair of expensive jeans to get hemmed, the women said they would be done at 4 so I returned at 5:30. The women could not find my pants and searched the store (grabbing every pair of jeans she saw and asked if those belonged to me) for about 45 minutes before she found them and they were not hemmed. She did them as I waited and when she handed them to me she had hemmed the jeans with white thread and seemed appalled that I would ask for a thread color that was closer in color to the existing thread. I dropped it and left. One month later my fiancé took a pair of work pants and was told they would be ready by Monday, we went on Tuesday and after waiting for 30 minutes she still could not find the pants. Needless to say, we do not have his pants and the women did not know where they were (she did the same thing to him as she did to me, grabbing any pair of pants she saw and asked if they were his). Cross your fingers we get his pants back. Never returning, we really wanted to give a local business the benefit of the doubt. About a week and a half later they found the pants. At least we got them back.

Spent over $ 300 in alterations for two suits. Was hoping to get them tailored to be more form fitting, but I was disappointed. Trousers were still too baggy, jacket was not flattering at all. Just thinking about it now, they did not measure me at all, rather they just pinned my clothes where they should have been hemmed. I suppose it would have been a better fit if they took exact measurements. I’ve lost faith in their ability to really understand my needs. Ill be taking my suits to get fix elsewhere.

I know alterations can be a tough thing, and I can’t speak for this shop beyond a simple hem… but I had a good experience with these ladies today and it looks like they could use a little pat on the back.
Anyway. I went to the mall to buy a blouse to wear to an interview next week, and naturally, I walked out with a new suit. Like all pants (hello fashion industry, the average woman is 5’4″), they were too long. I went home and dug up some thread and needles and was about to get to it (hoping I wasn’t about to completely ruin my new clothes), when I reached out to the internets and consulted good ol Google.
I zipped over there with the pants and the shoes I plan to wear. A pleasant woman marked my pants and promised them to me in an hour. I sat at Starbucks studying for about that long, picked up my pants, and they seem good. (shrug) I’m not tripping on them and they seem even and everything.
It cost $ 19 for one hour service for lined trousers. Considering it probably would’ve taken me several hours I could be spending prepping for my interview, it was totally worth it. Thanks, nice ladies!

Worse place ever!!! Where ever these people go they need to be followed and videotaped. They require all kinds of unncessary alterations to upsale prices and then the suit returns like you purchased it as a goodwill store. They are worthless rude sales reps. My pants hemps came undone 4 months after I wore my suit twice.

I have to say I was a little worried about this place because of all of the bad reviews. One reviewer actually said that this place has closed which is untrue. I had to have a few suit pants hemmed, and a pair of jeans that i just bought. I brought them in at 1:30pm and the lady said that they would be ready at 3pm! I had lunch and shopped a little bit at the Nordstrom Rack next door. Went back and they were ready as promised. The charge was $ 35 for two suit slacks, and one pair of Jeans. Workmanship was fine and the timing was unbeatable. They do make you pay in advance before the work is done of that is a problem for some.

Used to pass by this place because I shop at Nordstrom Rack all the time. If they are gone now — GOOD! Rudest counter help ever. I wouldn’t trust one thing to them. I walked in to make an inquiry how much it would cost to hem a pair of pants. This is how it went:
«Can you tell me how much it costs to hem a pair of pants?»
«Depends on the pants. Have to see them.»
«Oh just a pair of jeans, wide leg. Boot cut.»
«Have to see them.»
«Well just the average price for jeans.»
«Can’t say without seeing them.»
«Just average jeans, my height, boot cut. You know, a close guess.»
«No guess. Bring them in.»
«You can’t say between $ 3.00 and $ 50.00?»
«No.»
“Okay. How much to hem the pair of pants I’m wearing right now?”
«Have to see them.»
«I’m wearing them!!!»
«Those don’t need hems.»
«Wha— you guys — wow. This place is incredible.»
She turned her back on me and walked away from the counter.
W.T.F!!! Do you stitch with solid gold thread or something?! Get effed.
I related the above conversation to my sister, who lives in Marin County and she replied that she called her local Alterations to Go to ask about hemming jeans and pretty much the exact same thing happened. She surmised there is some kind of policy about not quoting prices without the item on the counter because you may make the decision NOT to have the item altered, whereas if you are there, and you have it, you’ll like just say «okay» and shove it across the counter to them. She said it was a rude, terse conversation as well. Sheesh.

They replaced a zipper in a leather jacket. The repair was done promptly, the workmanship was excellent, and the price was reasonable.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER TAKE ANYTHING EXPENSIVE OR OF SENTIMENTAL VALUE TO THESE BUTCHERS!!!
I politely asked them to fix a mistake they made, and they did begrudgingly. And since they said 30 min, my husband and I sat down quietly to wait… and they told us to leave and go shopping, and come back in 30. I find that kicking out your clients WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID, is a bad policy.
I’m raging pissed and taking Nordstrom’s Bill to them, because they owe me money!!!

This place is amazing, I needed a hem fixed for my slacks and she did it while I waited and it was super cheap! I honestly was in and out in 2 minutes!
I will go back and definitely recommend to EVERYONE!

This place is absolutely horrid. I realize and respect that there’s a culture barrier; I embrace diversity. But I think there’s room for politeness and friendly service in any culture. I took a pair of pants in the other day for a quick and easy repair. «Friday», I was told. When I asked WHEN on Friday, she said «any time.» I showed up early afternoon on Friday and learned they hadn’t even begun to work on the pants. Rather than apologize as any service-​oriented business with manners would, the lady looked at me angrily as if their inability to deliver as promised was somehow my fault. «Come back later» she barked.
Update from the above: I forgot to mention that the repair was to replace a zipper that had come apart. When I finally got the pants back and went home to inspect them, I noticed they had not replaced the zipper but had instead simply threaded it back together. The very first time i used the pants after that, the zipper came apart again. I paid all that money for nothing.

The first time I came here, I thought this place was amazing. I came here with ~8 pairs of jeans to be hemmed, width of pants taken in, etc. Delores (owner) charged me less than $ 150 for all, and I had a bunch of pants that fit perfectly in one week.
Since then however, my experience has been less than perfect. I came back a few months later to get my bridesmaid dress tailored. I had to get sides taken in, length shortened, and she promised me it’ll be ready in one week for $ 75. I went back on the promised day, brought the dress home and I realized that the length was perfect but the sides still seemed big. When I brought it back, Delores said that the sides were actually not done. So why did she give it to me when it wasn’t done yet? Shady. Delores took the dress back and said she’ll get it done in 2 days, but when I went back, she said she was busy and didn’t get around to fixing my dress yet. I had to go back twice before she finally had the dress ready.
The third time I came here, I brought a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee to be patched. She charged me $ 10, which I thought was a good deal, but the patch she put on was sloppy and didn’t cover the entire hole. I took the jeans home anyway, but after wearing them once, the hole ripped even more. When I took the jeans back, Delores said that she’ll put a bigger patch and reinforce it but she’ll have to charge me $ 8 extra for not doing a proper job in the first place.
Even though Delores was not very punctual and performed inconsistently, I went back the fourth time a week ago because when she DOES do them correctly, the end results were pretty satisfactory. I brought in a pencil skirt that I wanted shortened. Delores charged me $ 25 and promised that it’ll be ready in a week. I went back on the promised day and she said it wasn’t ready and that it’ll be done the next day. When I called the next day, Delores said that the skirt is «very complicated» and that «it’s half way done.» Seriously? Shortening a pencil skirt can’t be THAT complicated that it takes 10 days!
The disappointing thing about Delores is that she never once apologized for doing a sloppy job, not getting things done on time, or charging me for things that she never actually did. I didn’t even expect a comp or a discount. A simple «sorry» would have been nice. I don’t think she deserves any more business from me. Good customer service and honesty goes a long way but obviously not everyone values that. Tsk. Tsk.

Be warned… if you value good service, friendly staff and competitive prices DO NOT GO HERE. I have taken slacks here in the past for hems and although they are pricey and rude I have put up with it because they are convieniently located and quick.
Well, I took a bridesmaid dress in to be hemmed and have minor adjustments and as I had it on, I asked what her estimate was… she quoted a number that was close to what the dress cost (for minor adjustments). I expressed my concern and she tried to negotiate by offering $ 5 less than the original quote. Normally, I would have thought that is an albeit small, but nice offer her attitude was sooooo rude. When I said no thank you, I’ll take the dress elsewhere she yelled at me, «You be back.» Um no, I won’t. I went to another alterations place and they did the exact same work for almost ½ the price and were extremely friendly, quick and professional. I’m a total convert now.
On a side note…(this kind of goes along with a previous reviewer)…the lady asked what the dress was for and I replied that it was a bridesmaid dress. She then asked me if I was married and I replied innocently that I am engaged. She then ordered me to have my wedding dress altered there… I dumbfoundedly didn’t even respond not knowing how to react to that statement when she had a pile of straight pins within close proximity. Ordering customers around usually isn’t the best business practice.

I was going to get my jeans hemmed at the Nordstrom Rack next door and made my way all the way down there when the guy sort of questioned whether or not the jeans were from Nordstrom. (No, they weren’t from Nordstrom. They were Lucky jeans from the Lucky Brand store). But I just said «yes» so that he would do it, and he took it. On my way to pay for the service at the register, I felt super bad about getting caught since they weren’t purchased from a Nordstroms (what can I say… I’m an angel. jk) that I just walked out with my jeans and didn’t pay.
I remember being recommended Alterations to Go on a thread that I posted about needing a location to get my jeans hemmed, and since they were next door I decided to just give it a try.
Upon walking in, it seemed like they specialize in wedding dresses. So I thought if they do wedding dresses, they have to do good hem jobs too. I asked to have the original hem placed (for 50 cents less that what Nordstrom Rack was charging $ 21.50). I picked them up 6 days later and was not impressed. The original hem was placed, but the threading seemed crooked and not professional at all. When I put it on, I noticed that one leg length was longer than the other bc I kept stepping on that one side. I was super disappointed bc I’ve had way better hems re-​done and for half of the price — even for an original hem. I don’t recommend this place and would not go back to get my jeans hemmed… a wedding dress, maybe?
